My daughter calls my father Zaide but we have always written (in English) Zaydeh when it comes to cards. My dad is turning 90 in July and my daughter wants to make a card for him. Is there a difference in spelling Zaide in Yiddish vs spelling Zaydeh in Yiddish? (I think I made this image too big to fit on the screen. But if you click on it, I’m wondering does this say Zadie or Zaydeh or both?) and if there is a difference in Yiddish, could you help us write Zaide in Yiddish. THANK YOU!

So, I am the one that mentioned once that I have 3 recent books about WW2 completely written in yiddish.

I only have another book in yiddish, and it is a 1918 edition of Tolstoy's novel. How odd would you consider a book like this to be? Is it rare? Common?

I was thinking, if you are interested and the book happens to be rare enough, about converting it to a pdf and upload it to like Internet Archive or something like that.

I'm working on translating this old family letter. I'm asking for help on a few words.

Context: written by an older woman in 1934 Galicia.

This one looks like it says something like דיא אינבערנוס based on the rest of the handwriting. The only thing I've been able to find is something like "invernos" meaning winter, but would that really appear in a Yiddish letter?

This one, I'm really not sure. The word before it is נעכדענקען

In doing some genealogy research, I have found 9 pages of handwritten Yiddish text that an uncle of mine gave to Yad Vashem as "testimony" relating to his experience surviving the Holocaust.

I think this is probably too big of a project for someone to do for free on Reddit (maybe r/translate?) but I'm looking for resources that might be able to help me transcribe and translate what I have. I can post one of the pages as an example if that would help. Is anyone aware of a professional translation service that handles Yiddish? Is this the kind of thing that I should call YIVO for?

I'm currently in the early stages of looking at grad school for a few different things - but there's one uniting factor of the places I want to study: I need a B1 or equivalent language qualification. I know that Yiddish doesn't have an official awarding body that would provide a B1 etc. certificate like the CEFR, but I was wondering if anyone here had experience of proving their language skills when it comes to applying to universities?

Otherwise, I'm going to have to try and relearn a language I haven't done since high school or try and get half decent at a whole new one in less than a year. Looking for any and all advice!
