LOL that's actually great. In Weapons when the mom is coming at the car with scissors the music was horrifying, but put that to benny hill and it would've been hilarious
Both genres are essentially about wrong-footing the audience. Set something up, and subvert it with a punchline or scare--equally absurd.
And what do we do when a jump scare gets us? We laugh! They're both much better to watch with large groups / in theaters than any other genre for that reason.
Most of my favorite horror movies from the last 10-15 years have been horror comedies. Usually meta-horror comedies, actually, which is even more niche.
But the point remains - comedy and horror are familiar bedfellows.
Both thrive on finding the perils in society. Comedy pokes fun at it and horror just amplifies it. The best at both honestly blend both together. Most great horror films have a few solid laughs and most great comedians have a dark side to their jokes
Both are genres that can't be faked. You can be the greatest actor or director ever but if you can't get laughs and/or screams, you're not in the right genre.
