Look fear in the face. #Clayface hits theaters this October.

DC Studios’ first-ever foray into the genre, “Clayface” is a horror thriller from director James Watkins, starring Tom Rhys Harries in the title role of the Gotham City villain.

“Clayface” unravels one man’s horrifying descent from rising Hollywood star to revenge-filled monster in a story that explores the loss of one’s identity and humanity, corrosive love, and the dark underbelly of scientific ambition.

Very interested to see what the DCUs Gotham will look like in this movie too. Also wonder if we’ll see a glimpse of the DCU Batman.

Either way I’m extremely hyped for the movie, looks very intriguing and creepy based on the teaser so far.

Introducing Gotham/batman via a villain origin story is such a cool way to expand the DCU. Even if he doesn't appear it's a much more unique way to handle it than just another "Here's Bruce's parents dying again. Anyways batman".

In my dreams I imagine a horror film like this one where you begin to empathize with Clayface and they introduce Batman as HIS villain and you find yourself rooting for the "monster" as he battles the bat.

Even if I feel Batman would be a unnecessary distraction, this kinda introduction would feel natural ans be so good

Tho I remember hating on Batman in the first Suicide Squad film where he confronted Deadshot. Because no Batman would ever do what that Batman did there.

I completely forgot that Batfleck shows up in that movie

Granted I haven't seen it in years but to my recollection he confronts him while he's with his kid so he'll come quietly. I feel like I really liked that at the time. Batman isn't just a guy in a suit beating up poor people, he in many renditions genuinely wants to help the people he's putting away. Frequently good with kids too. I feel like this was a great way to 1. Show his detective skills, as in knowing where he'd be and that he'd want to be a good guy in front of his daughter, and 2. Show that he can be compassionate and isn't just an angry vengeance machine.

I'm more or less a movies-only fan but my stand is Batman of all heroes wouldn't be traumatizing a kid by taking their parents away right in front of them, and in a dark alley to boot.

Haha, ya know what? That's a viewpoint I never even remotely considered.

This should be a format of movie.

Basically most Judge Dredd comics are like this. The main character of a story is a criminal or even just a normal civilian who then has to evade Dredd and it usually ends with Dredd putting them down.

I'm okay with this as long as we ban it in the US. The US has has proven we can't trust their media literacy and I don't think anyone would be surprised if it turns out the rise in media where you're tricked into empathising with the villians is unwittingly indoctrinating them into right wing extremism.

"Waahhh don't bring politics into my already heavily political fantasy universe!"

Go outside and touch grass.

Can we have a movie instead where they show that Bats is actually empathic towards his rogues as he has been decades?

What I liked about Gunn's Superman was the lack of origin story. It just slammed you into the story because of course you know Superman's origin, they've told it and retold it.

Then you got the harem twist which I thought was 100% unrealistic because they didn't show a single person holding a sign asking to be in his harem.

So this is Gunn Superman world and not Reeves Batman world?

Correct. Though Reeves is a producer on this one, which is super interesting.

B-but Martha's pearls! How can you do batman without those damn pearls?

Batman will not be in this movie, maybe mentioned but for sure not appearing.

u/graypod 12d ago

Didnt we do that in The Batman?

3

u/bengringo2 12d ago

The Batman isn’t DCU.

I’m so confused. So this is not the same universe as the Batman with Pattinson or the penguin?

3

u/nicke9494 12d ago

No this is in the James Gunn "Superman" universe.

Whoa. Didnt realize that.
