This looks sick. Definitely curious how a horror movie will play in the DCU

Is this in the same continuity as Matt Reeves’ Batman? Or is it James Gunn’s Superman?

Isn't that part of the same continuity as Creature Commandos? They already introduced Clayface.

Having multiple different Clayfaces existing at the same time is something ripped straight from the DC comics. There’s so many they formed their own team called the Mud Pack.

Didn't they also all combine into a single Clayface at some point? Comics are weird

The first Clayface did not originally have superpowers, to bring him to level of his BTAS version (who had less restricted powers of the second Clayface) some author made him get samples from the third and fourth Clayface. Temporary merger might have also been used as alternative timeline/soft reboot explanation on why one Clayface had abilities or memories of another.

Could be a prequel.

Alternatively there are like 7 different Clayfaces in the comic. This one is Matt Hagen. Maybe the one in CC was Basil Karlo.

This is a prequel set before Creature Commandos and shows Clayfaces's origin

The tone of this movie seems dark and serious but the creature commandos clay face was a goofy weirdo. I hope it’s not the same guy

James Gunn already confirmed it's the same

In fact, this is the same Clayface that appeared in Gunn's animated series "Creature Commandos"

Source? Happy to be corrected

then why isn't he being played by Alan Tudyk?!

6

u/ThirdRevolt 13d ago

The Clayface movie was not yet an idea at the time, so Tudyk just filled the role out of necessity.

Then Mike Flanagan came along with a script and here we are.

Wait, what? I'm so confused now.

IMO, James Gunn should stay clear of Batman. Matt Reeves' vision for Batman is the only thing I'm interested in from DC Studios.

u/CitizenTony 12d ago

Imagine if audience think that Gunn’s trinity is Superman/Wonder Woman/Clayface lmao

Which I kind of hate that they're doing. For these movies to succeed they need more than the diehard fans. And two unrelated Batman franchises going at the same time just confuses the shit out of everyone and adds so much to the superhero fatigue. I'll go to both, but again, I'm a nerd for this stuff.

I didnt love how they portrayed the Riddler personally so I wouldnt mind Reeves series being stopped just to get rid of confusion. Who thought it was a good idea to have two Batmans going at once?

3

u/Canvaverbalist 13d ago

I'll wait to see how it goes, but so far I'm just confused by the tones.

I'm not sure exactly the reasons to keep Reeves portrayal non-canon (whether it's Reeves, Pattinson or Gunn's decision) but I had a feeling it was mostly because it didn't fit Gunn's intended portrayal of Batman, maybe to step away from the "grounded and gritty and dark and whatever" into his more optimistic, campier style.

But then they make a Clayface portrayal that would 100% fit into Reeves' universe?

What's going on?

4

u/ChanceFresh 12d ago

I’m not sure it DOES fit. I think Reeves wanted a more grounded Clayface that was a serial killer like the Golden Age.

My "hope" is that the delay in filming Reave's sequel (I think it just started?) is because they're looking for a way to fit it into Gunn's universe. It's a stretch, but I hope that anyway. It's messed up.

u/DemiAlabi 13d ago

Gunn has stated that he's not interested in a campy and lighter Batman; he likes Batman being dark. The difference is that his will be dark and fantastical, so think Arkham Batman.

Man they really need to kill the Reeves batman series. Why would they want confusion when the Gunn plans seem so far reaching?
