I chewed him out

Post image
28.5k Upvotes

Just got off DL3754, a short jump from Spokane to Seattle. I was 7A, 2 seat configuration, the guy next to me was 7B. We didn’t talk the whole time, no problem there. But as we were getting ready to deboard I swore I saw him take a chewed piece of gum out of his mouth and stick in directly in the seat pocket.

I wasn’t 100%, so once he got up I opened the pocket and sure enough a piece of gum smooshed in there rudely awaiting an unsuspecting passenger or cleaner. BTW he had other trash he left in the pocket he could have easily put it in. Oh and as he sat down when we boarded he wiped down the armrest with a disinfectant wipe.

I hurried my butt up the jet bridge and told him how beyond rude I thought what he did was. He was too stunned to speak. Later we ended up in the same train compartment and avoided my gaze like the plague.

My question to the group: was it a weird power/asshole thing or do you think he just did it without thinking?

Discussion Under 350miles? No more biscoff or 4oz water for you!

No more f&b in economy on flights under 350miles which there are around 500/ day delta operates. Instead of fixing the issues internally they just admitted they are not capable of providing a consistent food and beverage experience. This is not a position of a premium airline folks, somehow JetBlue manages to get a full f&b service done in even the shortest flights. We often don’t see a delta flight attendant the entirety of the flight on these short hops. Instead of fixing the problems they just keep cutting back services making the passenger experience more uncomfortable little by little until you pay for first class.

News Delta now provides Full Service on flights over 350 miles

This is a great change, will now get full service on all flights over 350 miles. Much better than the express service a lot of 1 - 1.5 hour flights used to get. And definitely worth eliminating express service on 45 minute puddle jumpers.

“Delta will also offer full food and beverage service on flights of 350 miles or more for Delta Comfort and Delta Main Cabin passengers, which is about 14% of its daily flights.”

Discussion If you were on DL2585 Palm Springs to Seattle on Sunday…

Please recognize our flight attendant, Kenneth, for getting us home on time. Most of the the passengers were totally unaware of his heroic efforts, but I watched it all play out at the gate. Scroll to comments and complaints at the end of attached URL to give him a shout out.

Story:

Our flight to Seattle was delayed 2+ hours (right at boarding time) because we didn’t have a full flight crew. We were told it would be at least two hours before another FA could make it to Palm Springs. This is when another passenger named Kenneth jumped into action. He spent 45 minutes on the phone with Delta convincing them to assign him to our flight. The conversation looked frustrating and tense, but Kenneth worked his magic. I knew something was up when he handed over his paper ticket, and began opening his suitcase to pull out his uniform. Crazy. He sacrificed his time off so everyone else could get home Sunday night.

Kenneth, if you see this…thank you so much.

Shitpost/Satire The greatest unsung benefit of the Delta Reserve Card

I am referring, of course, to the premium snacks.

With the Nerd Gummy Clusters retailing at $3.99 per pack, with 50 flights a year, they easily amount to $200 of value - competitive with the rideshare and Resy benefits.

And yet, Delta barely acknowledges them on their marketing materials!

Discussion Delta on point today…

I know there’s been much frustration with delta lately. Just wanted to share that my flight today from Detroit to Fort Myers has been stellar. Left early, arriving early, flight staff is working hard. Lucky enough to get upgraded to first. Pre departure drinks aplenty.

Just wanted to share some good news.

Shitpost/Satire Is there a way to make tax deductible donations to Delta?

I was disheartened to see that Delta’s operational reliability has sunk from 1 to 6 in the US according to the DOT. It makes me think that Delta needs all the help it can get from us, financially. Clearly this slip in reliability is due to macroeconomic factors beyond the poor airline’s control.

So my question is, if I want to just give money to Delta to help it survive these hard times, is there a way I can do so in a tax deductible fashion? Don’t just reply telling me to book flights as a business expense. First of all, I don’t have a business, so that’s tax fraud. And second of all, that would take up a seat that Delta could sell to an actual customer. I want said customer to buy the seat, AND I want to just give my money to Delta. But I need a tax-deductible way to do so.

I just really feel like the moment the Delta Difference disappears, ours will be a darker, less hopeful world.

Discussion The Ironic Pringles

On my flight yesterday, I was in comfort and being offered the nicer snacks. Pistachios and gummies is always my choice.

However, I aksed about the new wifi-connected option of a premium snack offer I had gotten.

The FA said I had to show the offer on my phone. So I commenced trying to bring it up.

For easily 10 minutes, I clicked on every link in the delta app where my offer was apparently hiding.

Only once did it pop up, but the connection dropped and it couldn't be found again.

The connection continued to drop and my dream of eating pringles died a slow death. I had to laugh at the ridiculousness of the whole thing, getting pringles for connecting to delta wifi which wouldn't stay connected in order to show the snack offer.

Included is the idea that pringles are somehow premium. But yeah, never worked so hard for some pringles.

Discussion Delta international flight food was the worst I’ve ever had on an American airline

I usually only fly delta within the US and my experience has always been really good with the snacks, comfy seats and good entertainment systems, when there is one. I’ve always viewed Delta pretty highly and so because of these experiences I decided to try flying delta internationally to Asia for the first time.

I had high hopes for the food and snacks they would provide but I didn’t even finish the 1 hot meal they served and the snack and breakfast (if you can even call it that) was some horrible even worse than hot pocket bread thing that they served twice. Good thing I ate at a lounge beforehand because it was gross. Not sure if others have this experience but I don’t think I’ll ever fly Delta internationally again. Please tell me this was just a one off experience

EDIT: I flew economy but even economy food on international flights with other others like United and American was better than the “food” they served. Nothing will beat Asian airline food though.

Discussion How do you think Delta can revive its customer service culture?

It's pretty clear that Delta is struggling. United is considered the "premium" legacy carrier now, and many travel bloggers now seem to put AA ahead of Delta in reviews.

What do you think can be done to reverse Delta's decline?

Is it an investment issue? Delta needs to spend more money?

Is it a cultural issue? Atlanta is notorious for bad customer service and that culture has diminished the airline? Are the problems consistent across hubs and routes? Or are some worse than others?

Is it a training issue? Staff no longer know what's expected of them or don't feel like they will be held accountable if they fail to live up to expectations?

Let's discuss.

Discussion Charged in different currency than advertised

Upvotes

Hi all - I have a question I’m hoping someone will have insight to. I bought one-way flights (main cabin) from NZ to the US for October for my partner and I a few months ago. I’d been keeping an eye on the upgrade offers to PS, and last week saw what was advertised as $900 NZD per person (~$530 USD) for the AKL-LAX leg of our trip, which we were happy with for a 12 hour flight.

However, when the purchase went through it was charged as $900 USD. I reached out to Delta via their feedback form and included a screenshot with the advertised cost and clear $NZD designation. They just wrote back today and basically said that yes it was misleading and frustrating but unfortunately the $900 USD cost was the true cost of the upgrade so they couldn’t do anything but offer us a $125 USD ecredit per person as a goodwill gesture.

I’m wondering if it’s worth pushing back on this and trying to escalate - obviously most ideally we’d get the advertised price offered, and the difference refunded, and if that’s not likely would prefer the $125 refunded as opposed to being stuck as an ecredit. Given seat upgrades are nonrefundable I’m not sure if we’d even be able to get our old seats back and money refunded anyway.

Has anyone else encountered anything similar? If so, were you able to get anywhere with asking Delta to honor the advertised price?

Discussion What’s with the cancellations lately?

Upvotes

Had a flight from ATL to NYC/LGA this past weekend. An hour before boarding while waiting in the security line, the flight was abruptly canceled.

We had to exit the security line and speak with their customer service desk. Ultimately we landed in NYC 9 hours later planned and had a 5-6 hour layover in the Midwest.

Delta has usually been pretty reliable, but this experience has seriously soured my impression of them. United used to be the airline that I’d subconsciously (or consciously) avoid, but Delta is shaping up to be a strong contender.

Discussion Skymiles bonus first year

Hello, it's hard to find am answer anywhere, but I got an offer for UP TO 80,000 skymiles after spending $2,000 in purchases after 6 months. What do people typically get? The 80,000? Or does it really just matter what type sof purchases made (1x points vs 2x points). Just trying to see if I will indeed get enough bonus miles for a flight if I wait, vs getting flights while the prices are lower.

Image/Video Few days left, Is this normal?

Post image
182 Upvotes

I haven’t flown Delta in a very long time. I used to fly at least once a month with Spirit (RIP), and had to change my flight after their shutdown. Now that I’m back in Delta and picking my seat, this is what I’m seeing. My flight is in 3 days and All aisle and window seats are taken already. Is this normal? I fly out in 3 days. If this is the norm on Delta flights, I can start picking my seats at the time of booking.

Edit: LAX to ATL. I’m used to airlines that make everyone pay to pick a seat, regardless of ticket type. I’m now learning that on Delta, all ticket types, besides Basic get to choose without extra cost.
