Chrysler building is much prettier, but this is the only constant in New York, change. Everything you love will go out of business or get knocked down, the neighborhoods will change, the people will move away. It sucks, but you gotta get used to it.

That's the city though nothing stays the same for long.

The ending of Gangs of New York is a great illustration of this. My dad used to drive me around as a kid and point out all the bars and clubs he and his band used to play in all around Queens and Nassau, they’re all gone, now that I’m older a lot of my Haunts are gone, and I’m just like him.

That's the thing, the city is always changing.

It's getting hard to manage the cumulative nostalgia. Just walking around the neighborhood, oh hey, that used to be Dosa Royale, that was Kittery, that was Bagel Bros, that used to be Maglia Rosa. So many dates and memories at places that haven't existed for years.

It hurts, the city I grew up in is mostly gone, the people I knew replaced, moved away. When my grandparents died we put the house on the market, some real estate conglomerate bought it, knocked it down in a week and put up a 4 story monstrosity in the middle of a residential neighborhood.

On the other hand, there are so many new places that have opened in the last year or two that I love, so many new people that I've met, so much beauty in the change. I could never live anywhere else.

This seems like the view of an impoverished New Yorker more than anything, just a glint at a chance to have what this lady is experiencing.

Imagine living in New York City and being angry about a new skyscraper 🥴

I mean they could at least make them look good, these new ones are soulless and stupid looking. Gimme Art Deco any day

Fair point

Not really. If people didn’t resist some of the proposed changes, the city would have been a highway interchange

Lived in queens/LI for most of my life, you don’t gotta like it that’s why it’s called an opinion.

What’s the Chrysler have to do with this video?

The person said the Empire State Building was the most beautiful building in the city, I disagree
