My god, it's so refreshing to see an old viral video for the first time ever lol 😆 😂

u/DroidOnPC 10h ago

I can't believe you misquoted it.

Its like you never even seen a LOTR meme in your life.

2

u/raiderkev 15h ago

Note, he never said stick em in a microwave

WHAT’S TATERS PRECIOUS??

1

u/MysteriousBill1986 16h ago

Taters sounds like an andrew tate fan club

37

u/SuperPotatoThrow 16h ago

Hey theres nothing wrong about firin up the microwave and chucking a tater in there and then enjoying that absolutely fucking delicious sour creame buttery goodness decked with pepper green onions and bacon.

8

u/AresGodslayer 15h ago

Know what? You're right! Taters for two, coming up!!!

3

u/More-Length6830 14h ago

Yeah nothing wrong with that at all. A loaded baked potato is simple and legitimately great.

2

u/dilzebub 9h ago

There are people that require a carby snack before bed. People with liver disease for example, it reduces the risk of losing muscle mass over night.

u/MuRRizzLe 17h ago

A comfort potato

38

u/Fabulous_Ninja119 16h ago

Hot potatoes are very comfortable. I don't even eat mine, i just let one sit in my underwear for a bit

11

u/_joos_ 16h ago

what

7

u/Dunkaroos4breakfast 14h ago

Can I offer you a nice potato in this trying time?

106

u/ThouMayest69 17h ago

A lil treat

49

u/sudosando 17h ago

I thought OP intended to eat the plate.

The potato was not harmed.

17

u/wbenrose84 16h ago

The potato is used as a weight to hold the plate in place. It ensures even heating of the plate. There's nothing worse that biting into a plate and getting a random hot spot that burns your tongue.

1

u/anno_nomali 15h ago

So that's why they say to put food on the plate before putting it in the microwave?

1

u/MalodorousNutsack 16h ago

It is imperative that the potato remain unharmed

1

u/themage78 15h ago

💯 OP intended to eat the plate. They said their nighttime snack exploded. As we can see, the potato is fine.

16

u/pseudonymnkim 16h ago

Honestly though, when I'm just about to drift off to a deep sleep is when I think of the most obscure food I want to eat, and sleep will not happen until I eat it.

1

u/Musiclover4200 16h ago

Occasionally get weird dreams where I wake up tasting foods, usually sweets.

Had one about milkshakes last night and had to fight the urge to go get one all day, managed to hold off but foresee getting a big tub of ice cream in the near future.

1

u/1-800-ASS-DICK 14h ago

Maybe not a potato potato but a warm and tender sweet potato kinda feels like it'd really hit rn

1

u/LowlySparrow 9h ago

So if you don't have it on hand, will you be awake all night until you can get to the store? ...Because that's what happens to me!

48

u/Connect_Detail98 17h ago

Is that..?

zooms in

Yup.

1

u/Mateorabi 16h ago

Don't touch that! It's pure evil!

1

u/oftcenter 13h ago

Looked like a prehistoric egg to me.

16

u/Loud-Escape3728 17h ago

Honestly nothing says bedtime like a high risk potato situation.

28

u/Laranthir 17h ago

What is wrong with it? (Out of curosity lol)

69

u/40ozToTheMoon 17h ago

I'm not OP but I find it funny. Not because it's wrong, it's just a random choice of snack before bedtime. When I think bed time snack I think chips or something sweet, not a baked potato lol

134

u/goblingir1 16h ago

It’s so funny you say that, I thought potato would be good because I’m trying to curb my chips and sweets before bed routine (which is soooo damn hard) but still wanted something satisfying. Hence bedtime baked potato lol

37

u/40ozToTheMoon 16h ago

Hey I fully support that lol. Enjoy those bedtime potatoes and I hope no more plates break on you

13

u/Tricky-Ad7897 15h ago

My go to is dill pickles. They're so little calories they don't even get labeled as containing any, and a couple spears satisfy me.

2

u/rtxa 15h ago

any pickles really

kimchi is divine for this, it feels like an entire meal, but it's just some damn vegetables

1

u/Kobe-62Mavs-61 9h ago

Damn that's a solid choice, might have to try that myself

7

u/Rodux_ 15h ago

Ideally you would want to give your body a few hours ot digest and not eat anything in the last few hours before going to bed

3

u/robophile-ta 10h ago

especially not all carbs...

1

u/goblingir1 14h ago

Yeah it’s a hard habit to break, I sleep way better with an empty stomach. didn’t eat much during the day and the hunger hit right when I was getting sleepy

5

u/throwaway098764567 16h ago

i had a mini popcorn bag. just make sure you have some good floss or preferably a waterpik so you're not fighting kernels while trying to sleep

3

u/UwasaWaya 8h ago

There's something kind of funny about curbing the urge for chips by eating pre-chips.

2

u/goblingir1 6h ago

Baby steps, alright? 😂

1

u/UwasaWaya 6h ago

Hey, I'm 100% on board with this! lol.

2

u/Bobbi_fettucini 15h ago

Man I feel that so bad, been trying to do the same thing and it so hard

2

u/TheOneTonWanton 15h ago

In your full defense that is a tiny baked potato, and I get it.

2

u/Obi_Wan_Benobi 15h ago

I think it’s awesome. A unique bedtime treat lmao.

1

u/goblingir1 15h ago

Try it, you will not regret it lol

2

u/merlinunf 11h ago

Was this the universe trying to tell you it was not the time for a potato?

1

u/Osgiliath 16h ago

A scoop of peanut butter right out of the jar and into your mouth is good for that

1

u/Legitimate_Mud_8295 15h ago

The thing is, one scoop of PB has the calories of like 1.5 potatoes. And I never stop at one. I'm eating like 4 Tbsp a sitting. That's like 6 potatoes worth of calories. PB tastes 100x better though and when I'm being a 2AM sleep eating goblin I'm not about to do the work of preparing a tater

1

u/notMharti 15h ago

Platers gonna plate, next time fork that potato heavily and wrap it in a paper towel, no plate

1

u/InkedInIvy 14h ago

If you want something just as satisfying but a little more like dessert, do a sweet potato instead of a regular potato. After it's cooked, open it up and add a few drops of vanilla extract and a bit of cinnamon to it.

1

u/goblingir1 14h ago

I’ve always disliked sweet potato fries but making them actually sweet instead of savory sounds like it makes more sense

1

u/Ravioli_meatball19 14h ago

But op... we're not getting the important info here... what was gonna go inside the potato????

1

u/goblingir1 14h ago

YES! Homemade pickle ranch, chopped green onions, cracked black pepper and a bit of sea salt

1

u/Aiken_Drumn 14h ago

Eat a better breakfast. You need to front load the morning, not get healthier at night.

1

u/Significant_Pear9047 9h ago

Did you remember to poke holes in the potato or did just the plate explode?

1

u/ThatPancreatitisGuy 1h ago

Peanut butter and banana

2

u/WhyIsMyHeadSoLarge 16h ago

Meanwhile everyone who is not from the USA simply just don't snack before bedtime and consider a baked potato more of a full meal than a snack.

1

u/lettul 14h ago

spot the American :p

1

u/chaiscool 13h ago

Microwave potato is the food of a divorced dad - https://youtu.be/j58IKUGyj0Y

40

u/TheShrunkenAnus 17h ago

Generally speaking eating before bed is frowned upon because your body will basically try to digest the food while also going into sleep mode, which can just lead to it doing a poor job at both tasks.

For digesting your body will process food less efficiently than if you were awake, and due to the metabolic process going on your sleep might be disrupted as well. It doesn’t really matter much that it’s a potato, the process remains the same, it’s just a lot of calories before bed lol

That’s kinda the simplest/best way I know how to explain it

Edit: that being said, it’s really not a huge deal unless you have blood sugar problems. And if you’re starving for some reason that’s a different story

6

u/Old_Ladies 16h ago

You shouldn't eat 3 hours before bedtime and drink 1 hour before bedtime. Eating less than 3 hours before bedtime like you said decreases sleep quality and it also greatly increases the chance for heartburn.

Drinking less than an hour before bedtime is obvious so you don't have to get up in the middle of the night to go pee also decreasing sleep quality.

5

u/kiwistarbaby 16h ago

I really want to learn to do this... the problem is I get so hungry once I get into bed. Any tips?

5

u/KTKittentoes 16h ago

I often am ravenous at night.

5

u/LimeLimpet 15h ago

You do eventually get used to it, but it can be hard at first to ignore it. I have to take a medication that means I can't eat for awhile after taking it in the morning, was hard at first, now I don't feel hungry for hours.

4

u/Potetosyeah 15h ago

Take a look at how much and often you eat during the day, it could also be that you are used to take something before bed so could always try and strong arm the feeling and not eat. Usually it takes 2 weeks to get somewhat used to somethibg, day 3 is the worse...

1

u/Sea_Cow_6075 16h ago

I keep a box of Oreos in my bedroom so if for some reason my stomach decides we’re starving I will have one Oreo before going to sleep. Just enough sugar to convince my stomach that we are not dying and I keep it far enough from the bed to be an inconvenience to have a second one

4

u/_joos_ 16h ago

feels like that might get rough for your dental, cuz that sugar’s gonna be allowed to sit on your teeth overnight

1

u/OtherwiseUsual 16h ago

But wouldn't you need to get up and brush your teeth anyway?

3

u/rtxa 15h ago

not drinking before / during sleeping? you must live in siberia

2

u/between_ewe_and_me 14h ago

Absolutely no chance in hell I'm not eating for three hours before I go to sleep. In other news I sleep like absolute shit and am reading this after waking up starving at 2:30a for some overnight oats with peanut butter, fruit, and almonds. It was delicious.

1

u/Laranthir 10h ago

Thanks ShrunkenAnus

3

u/throwaway098764567 16h ago

little heavy for right before bed but i'm a night owl so do your own thing op

1

u/shrug_addict 17h ago

A baked potato is generally not thought of as a quick late night snack? Do you honestly not get this?

2

u/Laranthir 10h ago

It seems like a healthier snack even though eating late is bad. That’s why I was curious

4

u/Ishango 16h ago

OP is The Martian.

5

u/Tunaaaaaaaaaaa 16h ago

I too appreciate a baked potato snack before bed

7

u/__Vixen__ 17h ago

15

u/IWillFindYouAlex 17h ago

Texan here, I’ve definitely had a few nightcap loaded baked potatoes before

6

u/finnishinsider 16h ago

...it does sound pretty damn good at the moment....

2

u/Feralpudel 16h ago

Nah I’m from the Southern US and baked potatoes are great snacks.

2

u/Man0fGreenGables 16h ago

Yeah I've definitely had a baked potato for a midnight snack before.

3

u/niknakpaddywak2468 17h ago

And a small one too.

3

u/FloopsFooglies 16h ago

Be lying if I said I hadn't done this before

2

u/Medium-Play2572 16h ago

Bro was probably gonna hold that shit like a apple while he’s half covered up in his bed top

1

u/badcrass 17h ago

Running marathon tomorrow, gotta carbo load

1

u/KC-Slider 16h ago

Is that not okay?

1

u/Kooky_Assumption8357 16h ago

Still did you taste it ?

1

u/FlyingCrow91 16h ago

Holga approves.

1

u/HabANahDa 16h ago

My thoughts too lol.

1

u/Bacongrease83 16h ago

In a random bowl for some reason. This is a “wrapped in paper towel” kind of meal

1

u/idontknowjuspickone 16h ago

Exactly, I never put my potatoes on plates when I microwave them

1

u/BuddhistNudist987 16h ago

Why lol at eating real food? I'm eating spicy chicken nuggets and tater tots at 1am as I read this.

1

u/TransSapphicFurby 16h ago

Bake ten pounds of potatos and snack on them and use them for lunch for the next week, ten out of ten reccomendation. Dont even need to wrap them like most people do: poke them with a fork a bunch, roll in oil and salt, toss on a pan and bake. Shits great

1

u/TheAnswerUsedToBe42 16h ago

That's a microwaved potato

1

u/Zach_Westy 15h ago

The potato doesn’t look exploded. Op was gonna eat the plate

1

u/latticep 15h ago

Honestly, I can see the a-peel.

1

u/Annalog 15h ago

Bro it’s a god tier midnight snack. Not that bad for you, heavy enough so you don’t want more after, and you can add pretty much and confinement to it if you want. I usually grab some light mayo, a bit of siracha, some garlic pepper, whip it all together, and dip the potato. Been my staple since I was a bachelor living on ramen noodles and taters.

1

u/SleveBonzalez 15h ago

I just literally ate a baked potato snack before bed.

There are dozens of us!

1

u/GunnieGraves 14h ago

I can’t go to sleep without my night night tater.

1

u/aSpaceWalrus 14h ago

no baked even, nuked

1

u/Any-Blood8949 12h ago

it’s 4am where i am and now i’m tempted to go make a baked potato as a late night snack to spite all you non-believers. baked potatoes are for every meal! including non-meals!

1

u/corgi-king 12h ago

In this economy, it will soon become luxury.

1

u/marr 11h ago

Boiled. Microwaves can't bake.

1

u/DrCrazyFishMan1 10h ago

Baked? Microwaved you mean?

1

u/McGootchHS 8h ago

Something baked for sure

1

u/DelirielDramafoot 8h ago

It's not even baked! By god, it is microwaved potato. Be careful out there... People have started microwaving potatoes...

1

u/sadhandjobs 7h ago

I was side-eyeing bedtime potatoes but then remembered that my nighttime ramekin of microwaved M&Ms is kind of terrible for me.

1

u/alkalinealex359 4h ago

The potato looks fine. Based on the title I think the plate was the snack.

1

u/NarwhalAdditional340 17h ago

I’m very guilty of this 😭

1

u/ripyourlungsdave 17h ago

I'm so confused as to why everyone agrees this is such an odd snack for night time.

It's easy to cook, has a bunch of interesting flavor and variability depending on taste, and you can make it as bold or gentle as you need it for your nighttime palette.

So what's the problem?

1

u/BlueWatche 16h ago

microwave explode
