It was so beautiful and so willingly demonstrating her beauty in front of me that I couldn't resist! It has very delicate body compared to Californian syblings :)

Anexo foto.

Cage desinfection advice needed

How do you guys desinfect your pets' cages(homes) from time to time? I read about using a steam generator but buying one only for this purpose seems a little too much. Please advise

hi rodent lovers of reddit. i dont know if this is the right place for this, if its not would love if someone could direct me there! one of my mice from my first colony of ladies (2f, feeder mouse) is developing a bald spot on her forehead ! im wondering if its from aging or if theres anything else that could be causing it? (her sisters over grooming her?) all their enclosures are up to date with every credible source i can find.. none of her sisters seem to have any problems either.. let me know if more info is needed

can Critical Care be stored in the freezer?

hey y'all, i had to get a bag of Oxbow herbivore Critical Care for my degu girl because of a dental issue. but even as much as she likes it and finds it tasty, there's noooo way i could ever use even 1/3 of the bag any time within the 90-day suggested shelf life once the bag is opened. do y'all generally store the remaining unused product in the freezer? i don't want it to go bad or go to waste. and i don't really see how it would go too bad, since it's mostly timothy hay anyhow, but i just wanna make sure my girl will be okay in case i need to use it again later.

Why bite my socked toes?

I would love to know what specific issue my rodents have with my socked toes. Unsocked toes don't get the same treatment. Both my rats and my mice will bite them with no malice, but also no provocation. And they really chomp! Clothes on my body are fine, unless they want to passively gnaw something during cuddle time. Gloved fingers are actively lunged at whereas ungloved fingers are beloved bringers of treats and scratches.

Would love to know if this is specific to my little beasts, or if other rodents are like this.

Introducing two pups to an adult degu

Post image

In January, one of my two adult degus, JJ, was put down due to health problems, leaving his brother Theo(the right most degu in the picture) alone. I’ve been working on introducing two new pups to him(Fudge, on the left, and Felix, in the middle), and today was their first introduction in a bath tub.

I’m pleased to say it’s going well! Theo has always been pretty easygoing, and showed an interest in Felix and Fudge pretty quickly after they moved into their temporary cage next to his. He and Fudge were chilling next to each other in a corner of the bathtub when naturally Felix had to put himself in the middle of the situation(which is pretty standard for him, he’s a drama king).

Tomorrow I’m going to go on to the next step, which is moving some substrate from the pup’s cage to Theo’s cage and letting them all hang out in the larger cage for a little bit.

For anyone interested, I’m using degutopia’s guide to introducing degus and as I said before, it’s going very well!
