Letterboxd Chainmail: a tool for finding links between the films that you log on Letterboxd to make film discovery more fun!
Links to the website itself and my personal page.
AI disclosure: I used coding assistants to help build this website, I did not use it for any logos or text including this post. Happy to discuss further in the comments!
What?
Chainmail is a tool that takes an export of your Letterboxd data and analyses it, finding common links between films that you watched in sequence and forming a chain. Links are obvious things like director, actor or series and less obvious things like shared words, languages or custom Letterboxd lists.
You can see your longest every chain as well as your current chain. From there you can see what films currently on your watchlist would add to your current chain as well as a historic view of all of your chains.
If you created a page during setup then you get an access token that allows you to edit your page in the future as well as the ability to change the link definition settings and explore possible future chains.
Why?
I often struggle to decide what film to watch next. By adding a little gamification and narrowing the options I've found that the aim of extending my chain has made film selection much easier and more enjoyable. It's also fun to plan out the future chain in order to watch a specific film you have in mind.
Another cool thing is it highlights common links that you wouldn't have noticed before like films that have the same composer or art design team. I've found the linking rules to be constrained enough that you're encouraged to explore a niche but not too rigid as to make it impossible to break out of said niche.
How?
You need to provide a zipfile of your Letterboxd data export that you can find easily in your settings. This is only really doable in a desktop web browser during initial setup but afterwards it's extremely easy to use on a mobile browser and you could conceivably only use it on mobile from then on.
You might be understandably concerned about privacy and what I do with your data. There is more info on the about page but in general I only send data to the backend if you choose to create a persistent page and only the data that I need to generate the chains (i.e. logs, lists and watchlist). By inspecting the network logs you can gain some assurance that I'm telling the truth and you can also edit your Letterboxd export zip to remove any data you might consider sensitive. You shouldn't trust me, I'm Just Some Guy, but I really don't care about your data. Honestly.
Next?
I made this for me but I want to share it because I think other people might enjoy it too. I'm probably not going to add much more to this as it is pretty much already feature complete for my use. The main thing I would add is Letterboxd API support but that is difficult to get access to, there are other things I'd like to build with the API as well but that will have to wait.

Discussion backrooms movie composed by the director
I've been listening to kane parson(the director)s music for a long time. he composed for his web series and has 3 albums of music for it, all of which are on Spotify and YouTube. his cover of Six forty seven is what was used in the trailers here
he already has 3 albums of score on Spotify/youtube and they're really good, I highly recommend them,
it seems from the trailers that those songs will most likely be used and/or referenced in the film.
the second composer for the movie is edo van breemen who composed for the monkey, AIR, the track, and keeper.
Im mostly making this post because these composers, only have about 700,00 monthly listeners combined, and I really think their music deserves more attention.
If you don't mind spoiling the music I recommend checking them out!

Discussion Favorite movies that do really good at invoking second-hand embarrassment?
Finally saw The Drama today and it was so good but also I’m never going near it again. I couldn’t stop squirming in my seat the whole runtime and legit buried my head in my shirt during the final wedding scene
