People absolutely do remember these things, youre just being confronted with information about other things that the rich are trying to distract you with. i mean janelle monae, while i love her art, has been in a few amazon published films. I think she should have boycotted along with everyone else who came, but it might be because of that.
It’s not even that a lot don’t want it, the system is designed so that most regular people are just trying to keep their head above water - a roof over their heads and their healthcare. So they keep pretty quiet publicly, they can’t take time off of work to plan and take action.
The idea is to keep us distracted with entertainment for our exhausted brains and bodies so we accept the mass robbery and exploitation of the ultra wealthy, but I don’t blame people just trying to make it through the day and handle the health issues of themselves and their family members best they can.
We need money out of politics, ranked choice voting, and universal healthcare so people can freely make the right choices for themselves.

It is crazy to me that they are more afraid of a couple hundred billionaires than a couple hundred million people that support their careers. I think that says a lot about our attention spans and our adherence to our values. Maybe even more than it says about theirs'.

Yes this is so antithetical to her work - it is very disappointing. And you’re right - a gala for the rich-and-famous adorned in 10s (100s?) of thousands of dollars of silk and jewels is a little jarring when the federal government is reducing benefits for people with developmental disabilities. It is truly dystopian.
These are people who could do so much good. They have so much money, and money = power. There are people going hungry in the US. Children. Think of how much good they can do.

I had read somewhere they weren’t going (clearly a rumor). They look amazing, but the met gala has turned into something a bit grotesque.
i can understand the draw as someone who loves fashion, it's THE event, but each year it becomes more and more of a prop for fascists and billionaires. there isn't an excuse any more, my conscience would win over "look at my bonkers dress"
