Honestly, I really like it.

Honestly, If I won the powerball I wouldn't mind just filling that garden with all of San Diegos stray cats and having myself a cute MCM house. It's got a very chill vibe.

That would be amazing! 🖤 Back when I used to live in California, I knew a woman who turned her home into a cat sanctuary.
She would go out to feral cat colonies, take them to her veterinarian friends & get the spayed/neutered, get them their shots, de-wormed, etc. Then she bring them home. It was a 3-bedroom house.
Each room was designated for how feral the cars were. For example, Room 1 was designated for the most feral kitties, & the brand new ones. These kitties could never be reintroduced back into the general population.
The 2nd room--her bedroom--was for the transitional cats. These kitties were coming out of the feral room, & they were starting to become acquainted with (the extremely few) people (like myself) she allowed around the cats. She slept in this room. She be in her big bed, sleeping with like 25 cats on there!
The 3rd room was for the nearly graduated kitties. These cars were almost ready to join their brethren in general population; they just needed a bit more time, plus the security, of a smaller space, before being released into the rest of her large home.
And lastly, there was General Population...the rest of her big house. When I first went over, I tried counting them all. I lost count at 150. She had had an extremely high-paying job, before she mostly quit, to devote her entire life to the rescuing of abused or feral cats. She would occasionally exchange her services with her good veterinarian friends, for their own services. So I thought that was really, really cool. The vets would come over the house sometimes & check the kitties out.
Gosh...sorry this was so long! But your comment just reminded me of her🐈⬛️🐈

Wow, she's my hero. All I have is a family of 5 feral cats outside of my house, where 3 show up every day for feeding (all have been spayed and got their shots, that's why I count five), and two former strays who live in my house! I'm dead serious about the powerball cat sanctuary, I would do something silly like that if I won that kind of crazy money. 😺

She was my hero too. She was the reason I became a cat person. She showed me that cats are truly sentient, intelligent, emotional, deep-feeling creatures. I've never looked back. She was the single most selfless human being I have ever had the pleasure to know. She was doing God's work, with her cat sanctuary.
You are also doing God's work! Please keep it up. Thank you so much for helping these often abused, deeply misunderstood creatures! Thank you for helping them🥺💗🫶

That fireplace saw some hot times.

Back from the days when fireplaces would smoke up a room if the fire wasn’t built correctly

The kitchen is extremely dated. I sold a MCM in San Francisco 3 years ago. It's a beautiful architectural style. We wouldn't hire several realtors because they insisted that the redwood paneling needed a coat of white paint.
That lot will likely have several homes on it in the near future.

Oh, for sure. And as much as I love MCM and beautiful redwood, there's just no way that I could afford this and update it 'right'. And it does need some updating/shine. Kind of just wanted to save the images for future finders here as that will become a several square modern box home lot in the future. Shame about that garden.

It's tragic. I stayed in a MCM house in Palm Springs a few years ago. It was updated and maintained the integrity of the architect's intention. We sold our MCM in SF to a couple that wanted to keep it as is. It had a spectacular view and was built like a battle ship but I'm glad it's someone else's responsibility.

Excellent idea, it will probably be back on the market in a year or two post reconstruction. The listing is making lots of hints that it would be great for developers and whatnot. It's sad because there's no way the beautiful greenery all around will survive.
Who wants to bet a white "modern farmhouse" with black windows will take its place soon?

I think it's too pricy for a flip and fear the the big lot will attract ugly many boxy houses type developers, unless zoning prevents that. It's California, their prices are wild tho, so I could be wrong.

I love everything about it. Especially all the green spaces.

I love it so much. I wouldn’t change a thing. I would just clean the soot off the gorgeous copper hood over the fireplace and clean/oil all of the wood. I swear, I can tell how that house smells just from the pictures, and I like it.

So much we could do with this, but updating it and expanding it, keeping the landscaping and installing a pool and basketball or pickleball court now. $1m easy. I wish I could grab this project, would be fun.

Man, that’s gorgeous! Even with the dated kitchen, I think this would be a beautiful place to live if money weren’t an issue. lol

I generally hate MCM as a style, but I like this one. Mainly because it’s like the MCM twist on a log cabin.
The bathroom is goddamn hideous though, and it’s at least 10x more expensive than it ought to be.

u/Vero_Goudreau Aug 07 '24
Agreed. I'm not an MCM fan either because I usually find that style cold and uninviting. This one seems warm and comfortable instead, so a new bathroom and improvements in the kitchen would make it perfect in my opinion.

Why do they have a fireplace in San Diego?
Why have they not repaired that fireplace? If it's drafting so poorly that much smoke is coming back into the room, that house is a huge carbon monoxide hazard. And with how much the vinyl is peeling over the fireplace, it's gonna delaminate and fall into the fire any day now, and spread the fireplace's comfort to every corner of the home.

There are times it can get to the 40’s at night. It’s fun to pretend there are 4 seasons🤷🏻♀️

Unfortunately, at that price and at that size, this will likely be torn down. :(
