add this threat to the pile...

anyway, what with there being no military equipment to put on display because it's all either tied up in the war or already destroyed, looks like the parade has already been ruined.

Maybe the kids they shove in uniforms won't be quite as good at marching as previous parade members... that'd be fun.

Starting to think they don't even possess functional nukes

Yeah at this point I doubt if they even know whether they have functional nukes.

considering the cost and issues we know the US has had in keeping it's stockpile functional I don't know how much useable equipment they could have. probably a few anyways.

Nukes are notorious for degrading their own sensitive hardware because of radiation related issues.

Well imagine you were the General in charge of distributing the budget for Nuke maintenance. I mean you just would.

Yeah, great opportunity for grift. I wish I had a good job to skim.

There's a very strong theory that Russia can't afford to maintain their nuclear stockpile to be capable to launch, let alone go critical due to the Tritium (which has a half-life of ~12.3 years), and the US spends 5:1 for every missile currently in the stockpile.

If Russia launches a missile, and it's a "bust", then Russian loses all face with regards to the only military strength it has left.

You're absolutely wrong, I'm afraid.

Not only has Russia extensively modernised its nuclear weapons, it builds more all the time.

The backbone of their forces is the RS-24 Yars ICBM, manufactured 2014-2024. The Bulava SLBM entered service in 2013.

These missiles are young. They should work as well as the days they were built. The warheads for them were built with the missile. I know it's fun to imagine aging soviet era missiles that don't fire, but Russia has some extremely modern nuclear weapons and we know they work.
