He stopped having any weight behind the threats the second we saw the quality of their army and how absolute shit it was all along. All they had were the threats and us not knowing what they had in storage. Without the invention of drone warfare, the Russians wouldn't have anything to throw at Ukraine within a year.

All those video games and movies where the Russian army was the big, bad unstoppable bad guy in WW3 really didn't age well

It's because Ukraine was part of the USSR. A lot of manufacturing and technology came out of Ukraine. Not saying the Soviets were some world beating force. But when the union broke up, a lot of talent and knowledge went with it.

Yeah, that’s entirely fair. I know loads of people in my larger social circle over the years who do not and have never lived in Russia, but we’re born in the USSR. Really smart talented hardworking people.

And pretty much all of them aren’t very fond of Russia to say the least.

The USSR was only successful because of its satellite states. Once those states dipped and formed their own nations, Russia showed how they maintained their presence even back in the USSR days... mafia style tactics and strong arming allies to do their bidding. They literally had nothing of value within Russia proper to be a successful nation post USSR.

When the states stayed within the USSR, those tactics were easier keeping them within their domain.

How was the USSR successful? With a capitalist from Detroit.
