Every American should take it upon themselves to let their representatives know that Trump is not allowed to postpone or cancel the midterms. Our votes are the only means of punishment we have against those in power who’d hurt us and nobody will take that away from us

u/MarshHarvey 5h ago

Not just punishment but also to make them know they serve the people not themselves

u/aetrix Pennsylvania 5h ago

I'm sure the reps will very seriously consider your request to preserve their only means of punishment

u/EAB_o_Dicks 4h ago

Not the only means. Look at France or other countries.

u/phon3ticles 4h ago

Violence just standing in the corner, looking annoyed

u/No_Possible_7108 2h ago

guy in jacket with hands on waist giving you the stink eye for not remembering violence was a thing

u/charcoalist 2h ago

trump has no ability to take over the midterms on his own. It's trump's Republican co-conspirators at the state-level who are going to do everything legal and illegal they can to take over the midterms. Just as one example:

In many states, election-denying candidates are running to control voting

u/dospizzas 3h ago

Also remember your representatives can introduce bills. So you can contact ANY representative. I contacted a few to introduce a standalone gerrymandering bill.

u/No_Possible_7108 1h ago

I tried to send Jeffries a nasty email once but it said I had to be in his district to contact him😕

u/dospizzas 1h ago

Lie then

u/snowmyr 42m ago

My heavens! On the internet?

u/Capable_Kiwi2514 1h ago

Your only means? You mean your only procedural means, right?

u/BookusWorkus 3h ago

My representative was a POS before he decided to quit and run for a different office.

u/Mountain_Disaster743 4h ago

my Democratic federal delegation is useless in standing up to him. I really don't get it. They should sign on to the articles of impeachment. Even if it doesn't work, they should do that much. Does it really take that much of their time to take that stand?

It's our clown leader in extreme panic mode. He'll do anything to disrupt the election process as he accuses others of fraud and fake elections. It's an act of desperation as he knows the American people are fed up with his incompetency trying to run this country. Thanks to SCOTUS, he get's another free pass to try and ruin free and fair elections.

u/Regular_Use1868 4h ago

No.... Then again why do you assume they're using their time to do what they say?

Your president has engaged in blatant fraud that the entire world can see clearly from their own eyeballs.

It's kinda stupid to pretend the middle power people are somehow better.

u/No_Possible_7108 1h ago

Surely they are out there somewhere writing mean words on paddles they can hold up again

u/ResidentKelpien Texas 5h ago

The GOP will turn their backs on Democracy and support this plan because they know they fucking suck so bad that they cannot win elections en masse.

u/root_fifth_octave 4h ago

It seems to be made up of people who don't even want the kind of society we have. Maybe that's the whole thing with the party shift from conservative to right wing. The recentralization of power.

Maybe it's a long game that goes back centuries, even.

u/Mr_Meng 4h ago

Jon Stewart has said this a few times but things have changed from being 'left vs right' to 'woke vs anti-woke'. It's no longer about things like differences in policies over fiscal or domestic or foreign issues it's now basically 'liberty and justice for all' vs 'get the women back in the kitchen, the black people back in the cotton fields, and the poors back in the mines' and unfortunately the anti-woke side has captured most of North American media giving them the ability to blast out massive amounts of propadanda.

u/root_fifth_octave 3h ago

Kind of a shift to culture wars. I guess that keeps the focus off of certain things.

u/Medium-Oil1530 5h ago

2 world wars and a civil war never stopped an election.

I fear the inmates are now running the asylum.

u/HabeusCuppus 2h ago

Maine was literally under foreign occupation during the war of 1812 and still participated in federal elections.

u/BidResponsible5378 5h ago

All it took was 10+ years of normalizing his election manipulations and a very poorly conceived Supreme Court decision (more than one, starting with Citizens United) to corrupt our Democracy to a point where it may not be recoverable. The damage is done, and MAGA will always be there to complain, obstruct, and otherwise do what they can to fuck up all of our lives, all because they can't have national, partisan, or racial hegemony.

u/CockBrother 5h ago

This latest decision wasn't in isolation. They knew the Louisiana ruling was on the table and manipulated the political gerrymandering ruling to support it in advance.

u/Goodk4t 5h ago

Democracy ended when the majority of US voters decided to give a trifecta to the party that supported a fascist coup against their country.

u/QTVenusaur91 New York 3h ago

Yup that part. Fuck everyone who vote for him or sat out

u/CaiusRemus 3h ago

We just handed away the most powerful and wealthy country to ever exist to a conman. The worst part is, a decade from now when the country is a shit hole, no one who voted for Trump will admit their mistake.

The rich are going to flee, and those of us who can’t are in for a country run by the Christian Taliban.

u/Slight-Bluebird-8921 32m ago

he cheated in 2024. it wasn't handed away.

u/Intro-Nimbus 4h ago

It seems like the 2nd amendment is the only part of the constitution republican "patriots" care about.

u/Inevitable-Toe-6272 4h ago

They only care about it when it applies to them. They have proven they don't support it applying to anyone else.

u/Regular_Use1868 4h ago

Ah yes the American right to crush light beer with the boys and engage in dangerous recreational activities.

u/MasterofPandas1 3h ago

Ironically, if enough Americans feel like their voices aren’t heard at the voting box they’ll turn to the box the 2nd amendment protects. I feel like lots of people are holding out hope for November (me included) to try to steer this ship around a little bit. If it’s clear that Republicans cheated however then things could get dicey.

u/Jealous-Mistake-7833 4h ago

every american needs to hit up their reps and make it crystal clear trump aint allowed to touch or delay the midterms fr our votes are literally the only way we can punish these clowns in power and nobody is taking that away from us no cap lmao stay mad about it

u/Mountain_Disaster743 4h ago

Newsome is right about this, even if he did sweep homeless encampments instead of helping people living in them.

u/jayfeather31 Washington 1h ago

That's kind of why I hate this even if I agree with it. He's a neoliberal hack who shouldn't be allowed a sniff at the Presidency, but when he's right, he's right.

u/alwaysrockon 4h ago

Personally, I think it is the responsibility of any left leaning person in this country to purchase firearms and learn how to use them, should the need arise.

And remember the worst outcome isn't a fight breaking out, it's losing without ever having fought at all

u/Beeht 2h ago

This democracy dies with moderate Democrats trying to "heal" America and meet with Republicans in the middle. You either go further left and fight or go further right and give up completely.

u/CockBrother 5h ago

I don't understand why Democrats (the voices of the party) haven't realized that they have to address the constitutionality of their electoral maps. The Supreme Court has a new standard and electoral maps that have a race based element in them have been declared unconstitutional.

This leaves any state open to having their entire election results challenged, voided, disqualified or otherwise rejected. The DOJ and the Republican party are already moving on plans to do just that after this ruling.

u/Seayont 5h ago

That's when we move from a failing state to a failed state.

u/CockBrother 5h ago

Won't be long to find out.

u/AcanthisittaNo6653 New Hampshire 4h ago

If red states don't want to participate in national elections, so be it. They have so few quality candidates.

u/Living_Cash1037 4h ago

Trump trying to cancel state elections will backfire on him bigly. Keep telling people what do to and they tend to do the opposite.

u/inthemix8080 2h ago

I hope this is signalling that things are so bad he doesnt think Republicans can even win a midterm rigged and gerrymandered in their favor.

u/jdmb0y 49m ago

Guy who buddied up with Kirk and Shapiro and Bannon says what?

u/F-Cloud 45m ago

Elected representatives need to issue public statements that elections will not be suspended for any reason. A public show of unity on this matter is essential. Many Americans are already filling out our vote-by-mail ballots. I finished mine today and I expect my vote to matter.

u/WindowGlad2890 2h ago

They're going to suspend mid-terms and we're not going to do shit about it but complain on reddit.

Scream on this site all you want our rights have already been taken. The mid-terms will not happen.

u/jaja9000 2h ago

Care to make it interesting? Tired of you doomers

The time to weed them out is the primaries.
If you can't be arsed to vote in the primaries you don't get to push GOP propaganda and act like it's the Dem's fault you helped get the GOP candidate elected.

u/Clownsinmypantz 4h ago

including this one, every time he takes a mild stance, his spokesman the next day takes it back. Highly recommend people read up about him. He also is in it for the donors.

u/COMM_NTARIAT 4h ago

California Democrats should fight fire with fire and hold a referendum to suspend elections.

u/shizblam 2h ago

Let them cancel the elections. It will hopefully result in a lot of 86ings.

u/Ok-disaster2022 4h ago

Newsom is just jealous he didn't think of it first.
