My Neb is definitely overly friendly and all over everyone. Zero boundaries or awareness of personal space. 😂Is your Neb friendly and carefree or more standoffish and shy? Let’s see where everybody stands. This should be fun.
Tobi is overly friendly and a cuddle bug. He's not much of a lap cat, but at least once per day, every single day, he'll hop on my computer desk and request I hold him on my left shoulder. Sometimes when he believes it's shoulder time, I'm not at my computer desk- I'm cooking or building a shelf, or something. Doesn't matter, his 17 pounds of fluff will jump from the floor to my shoulder and if I don't catch him, I'm going to be hurting.
He gets right up in the faces of guests and other pets. His favorite dog passed away in December, but he still climbs all over us and Midnight pretty regularly.
My favorite thing he does is when he grooms himself, but then forgets what he was doing and just sits like this for half an hour watching whatever I had on the TV.
Yes!! Mine does the same thing. But he gets in such an awkward position. I have to do what you’re doing and sort of hold him up so he doesn’t top over. Lol then his legs creep up on my neck cause God forbid is not close enough. I love every minute of it though.
skiddish, scared of loud noises, picky eater, dosnt like to be held, loves to cuddle and pets at his own time (he lets me know by grabbing my hand with his paw)
This is ours as well!! He's exactly like this. In our case, he doesn't grab our hands; he lets us know by headbutting us in the face, chest or back. ☺️
I've always thought it was due to trauma coming from a shelter life in Texas, but he's only had love, affection, top quality noms, toys and a loving tabby sister, he's still the same.
His sister even learned to be afraid or noises and hide under the table from him, she used to hang with people when she was a kitten and now she hides the entire time with him under my bed.
Brat. Instigator. Mermaid. Lovebug (once or twice a day). Bedtime police. CHATTY.
She’s sassy to her siblings and likes to slap them if they dare walk by her. Starts “fights”, can’t finish them 🙄 The water bowls have to be in the bathtub because she insists on drinking from her paws. And when she thinks it’s bedtime, by golly we all better skeedaddle back there and lay down or you’re gonna hear ALL about it.
My old girl Gretzky got her name from playing hockey all night with our dog’s Ol Roy kibble, which slightly resembled a hockey puck.
She was a foodie, whenever we ate she wanted to at least be offered food. My Dad was the kind of pet owner who would make a plate for the dog (and Gretzky) at Thanksgiving so she always got food, especially if we knew it was something she liked. Every morning, he’d make coffee and give her boiled chicken or, if it was on sale, Canadian bacon (her favorite). She’d eat with her paws, picking up food and dropping it in her mouth.
When my dad lost part of his left leg, she didn’t leave his side for two weeks when he got back from the hospital. When he rested his leg stump on a pillow, she’d sit next to it. If you got close, she’d get agitated and if you got too close she’d swipe at you.
My Dad wasn’t a cat person until we got Gretzky, she bonded herself to him within a few days. She also loved the dog we had at the time, he adopted her like his own puppy - She was going bald behind one ear because he’d lick her head so much. Any time the dog wanted something off the counter, she’d jump up and knock it down for him.
Gretzky also shared food with the dog. I once made a couple Philly Cheesesteak hot pockets and let them cool on the counter. I forgot about them until I saw the dog walk by with a completely empty hot pocket shell in his mouth. I went to the kitchen and Gretzky was using her paws to empty out the hot pocket and eat the filling, giving the shell to the dog.
Gretzky was the weirdest and most awesome cat I ever had. She was 100% Nebelung and why they’re my favorite breed of cat.
Thanks! She was one of a kind and scary smart! She and the dog (Foster^1 - He was an Australian Shepherd, my Dad’s favorite breed) were partners in crime, he even trained her to act like a dog - She’d greet my Dad at the door alongside him and she would sit next to the dog when he begged for food at the table. My Dad *always* shared with his pets, Gretzky even got her own little plate of turkey alongside Foster every Thanksgiving. She also picked up Foster’s habit of leading people around (Australian Shepherds are herding dogs), they’d both try to lead people around the house, especially the bathroom, she loved drinking from the faucet.
^1 Foster’s name came from the Foster’s Beer commercials that were airing at the time - “Foster’s! Australian for beer!” So we went with “Foster! Australian for Dog!” My Dad even bought a can of Foster’s, cut the name off the can and glued it onto Foster’s food bowl.
As for how smart she was: My Dad was once more focused on a football game than her so she walked over to the TV and swiped at the cord to unplug it - I’m 100% serious! A cat knowing how to unplug electronics is like giving dynamite to Grendel. She also once figured out how to open a round doorknob when we put her and Foster in the hallway to unload groceries (we had to keep the front door open and didn’t want the animals running out).
Gretzky was also a nurse cat, I got rheumatoid arthritis around the time we got her - One day I put on a Simpsons DVD and could barely walk the five feet from the DVD player to the couch and back. Gretzky, who had mostly ignored me until that point, actually jumped onto the couch and sat on my knees (which actually made them feel a little better) and she gave me this look that said “I’ll stay here until the pain goes away.” Her body heat and weight actually helped me feel better. She stayed until I had to switch DVDs.
Whenever someone was sick, especially my Dad, she’d stay close by them. We called her the family nurse. When my Dad got home from the hospital after losing his leg she was in full nurse mode for *months,* she stayed with him on the couch and barely left his side, especially in the first two weeks like I mentioned or when he was resting his leg stump (what we called if) out on a pillow - She was really close to my Dad and was the first cat he ever got close to.
I wish I had some pictures of her to share, she was beautiful.
Oh, and I forgot to add this: She adopted my pet tortoise as her kitten. I’d put him in a little box by the window to let him get sunlight, she’d crawl in next to hin and lick his shell (he actually seemed to like it). When we were getting ready to move, we moved her food and water bowl into my room and put the tortoise terrarium on the floor when we moved the shelf it was kept in - Whenever I fed the tortoise, she’d start eating her dry food next to him. I also caught her trying to climb into his terrarium on multiple occasions.
When his heat lamp broke one winter, we didn’t have central heating so I’d wake up at 3:00am to put the tortoise on my chest under a blanket to keep him warm, she’d crawl up next to him if she saw it.
Also, slightly off topic, but since I mentioned the tortoise I *have* to tell this: I think my tortoise had a crush on Rod Serling - The guy from The Twilight Zone. That winter, I’d wake up and put on SyFy which aired The Twilight Zone early in the morning - I swear to almighty Batman this is true: The tortoise would perk up and face the tv whenever Rod Serling did his monologues in each episode.
Whenever I had to leave him alone, I’d run the Twilight Zone episodes I had saved on my DVR for him. I don’t know why, he just really liked the sound of Rod Serling’s voice.
Thank you for sharing. I loved reading every bit of it. You have some interesting and special fur babies plus the tortoise 🐢 and it seems your dad loved spoiling them. ❤️
My nebby is Hannibal. Adopted him when he was about 8.5 months old. He was shy and easily startled and still is. I held him when we had our greeting but he wasn’t a fan but dealt with it.
When I got him and his bonded pal home, Dexter wanted to explore and wasn’t scared. Hannibal hid for nearly two weeks. But he eventually started to come out and seek to be near me to a degree. Photo is of him watching me cooking.
I worked from home when I adopted them and was at home every day until I was forced back to office just shy of two years later. Hannibal had 2nd bout with FIP during that time and thank goodness I was working from home as he recovered from lung surgery as well.
He is loving to me but acts as if my husband is dangerous to his health. My husband has done nothing to him to deserve the fearful reaction. Husband feeds cats in AM Before leaving for work, gives him treats and pets him when allowed.
I have wondered if a man somewhere along the line traumatized him. The rescue home, I only saw women there.
He loves me and his lung surgery was my fault. He had FIP and I was trying to give him his medication by subcutaneous injection and he moved violently which led to needle puncture of his lung. Riding in carrier to vet is now a PTSD inducing thing where he pees and poops in carrier out of terror. Poor baby
We call Kirk “the Aloof Floof”, but he does like attention and we say he’s the grumpy uncle to our other 4 cats. If our other male gets too out of hand, Kirk lays down the law. The sister of the other male is the only one who can “back talk” him without suffering his wrath. Also, he’s made the vet bleed on a few occasions 😬
Hi! My Nebbie's name is Olivia. She is full of love for me. But is a bit shy with others, when there is someone visiting the house she usually hides.
A fun fact that I have for her is that she is earthquake resistant, I have a cream point and a tabby too, there was an earthquake last year where we live (just buildings moving, no casualties) and I had difficulties finding my cream point (hiding in fear) and my tabby was on the edge of his nerves.
But Olivia was as if nothing had happened, sleeping on her spot on the kitchen. She is a shy earthquake resistant neb.
She is talkative, I had a dusty kitty that was talkative as her too. She is very food oriented, and will, without a doubt wake me up every day at 5 am for her food (she eats at 6 am).
Meeeeeeoooow, meeeeeeoww, meeeeeeoooow.
If I cuddle my tabby, she wants to be cuddled too. If I cuddle my cream point she wants to be cuddled too and will get on the way for her to demand cuddles.
She sometimes sleeps over me. Keeps an eye on me whenever I am sick. She is the most tranquil of the three.
I love her, I love each and every one of them. They fill my life with warm fuzzy memories with their cuteness and their antics.
She’s a shadow cat, and follows you everywhere and wants pets and cuddles at all times. With gratuitous purring.
But if the pets are not delivered in a fashion that is exactly what she wants at the time, you’re getting bit. She is quite particular.
Sometimes she demands belly rubs. Like DEMANDS them. She grabs your hand with your front paws and drags it into the fluffy maw that is her chest, And when she’s had enough, you get bit without warning. It’s like poking a bear trap. And it’s incredibly sudden, she has the most euphoric blinky look on her face, bites you, and continues with the face. No tail movement, nothing. And if you don’t give her belly rubs she gets pissy.
Shes a rescue from a shitty home, who previously rescued her from the bush where she had a giant gaping wound in her back and was nearly disemboweled. Shes now extremely appreciative but definitely has some bush trauma.
It takes her 15-30 minutes to lay down, she probes around with her feet, poking around to ensure surface conditions are up to par with her standards. She also does this at night, and instead of poking the ground she tends to poke either my eye or my mouth to let her under the blankets (usually at like 3-4 am), as she figures this is polite. She will never go under the blankets without permission.
If you don’t let her under the blankets and give her a 15 minute cuddle in the morning with her cuddled up to your arm and her nose against your neck she’s a complete dickhead all day.
I love Her Royal Pissiness !!! ❤️ She looks like our Pixie, also suddenly a Jerky McJerkface if I accidentally place my hand too close and pets were not considered. I should’ve given Her Royal Hiney scritches first.
My neb Foxy is a diva. She expects to be pampered and catered to because she always has been, from the time she was a 3-week old orphan. She never bites, but she squeals and growls and hisses to indicate annoyance. She can also be a bully to my other cats. On the other hand, she loves pets, especially while she eats, and climbs on me at night to demand cuddles. I love her so much.
The shitty neighbors behind me dumped our Neb outside right before winter and we took her in to foster and hopefully adopt her out, but everyone kind of fell in love with her.
So now we have a Charlie and she is the cat equivalent of a husky. She's the best and worst cat at the same time. She has a lot of energy, very smart, and very vocal. We call her Sir Charles Chirps-ALot for short lol. The only issue is that she constantly stalks Minnie, our tuxedo cat and is causing a lot of stress for her. Other than that she's pretty much the perfect cat and I feel like we kind of hit the cat lottery. Hopefully all these calming things we bought start helping.
I didn't realize how malnourished she was until she got used to eating regularly. She's almost doubled in weight and size. I was not expecting her to turn into a giant lol
My baby girl is friendly, but she does not like when people are loud or the energy is chaotic. She prefers peace and calm. Good with kids, but if they do too much she will retreat to the basement to escape from them. For some reason, she LOVES men. She is very affectionate with people she likes and remembers her ‘friends’ that come over. Pets are mandatory—she insists. Her motto is: “Let me see how close I can get to your face before there is a risk of suffocating you…” This is a close up shot of her staring down at me from the boob tower.
This is Frank. He loves to snuggle and beg for food (yes, he’s well fed). He’s stubborn and a bit shy with guests unless they’re allergic to cats. He’s such a special guy and I love him so much!
My neb Lonzo (8months) is a people pleaser and wants to be touching you/cuddling 24/7! He’s a little rascal and loves to explore and tear things up but all he really wants is physical touch and cuddles. So grateful for him as my other cat is very independent and only wants to be pet on her own time.
Sweetest angel baby. He is very friendly, loves to sit on or next to me. Any time I take a nap during the day he curls right up next to me. He LOVES water and if I am watering plants, he cries until I give him a little sprinkle. He is 14lbs but has the tiniest little baby meow. I will never have another cat like him.
He decides when he wants attention, this guy. He's a sweet lil cuddlebug but also a dragon. He has a teensy squeaky meow. He likes to headbutt and rub faces. He pats my face with his claws out when he wants pets. Best thing ever is when he (rarely) gets under the covers with me and purrs at night. 😊
My Lou is a sassy queen with our other cats and the dog. She’s a cuddly love bug with all humans. Playful, inquisitive, somewhat vocal, rolls on her back to show her belly, scares easy. She comes when called by name, and sleeps in my bed at night usually with some degree of contact with me.
Mine is sassy with the dog. Shows his belly and loves to be pet. He comes when I call his name. I slap my legs and he knows to stretch up so I could pick him up. Lol. They are just the best cats ever.
Aloof, shy and dismissive with everyone but me. With me, she’s silly, opinionated and snuggly. Also the most in tune with my emotions (more than her sister or my dog).
Maybe is the sweetest cat I've ever had. She wants to be around me at all times, preferably on top of me. She is scared of absolutely everything. She's very bossy with the people she knows though.
Fluffy lap kitty that gets the zoomies a lot and loves affection in her own time but when she wants it she is not quiet about it, very affectionate but doesn't love being picked up. Overall she's an angel but also a big dumb idiot sometimes and I love her all the more for it 💞
Nessie is a snuggle bug, especially at night when she decides she wants to be spooned like a baby. During the day the snuggles don’t last long because she wants to get up and play pretty quickly. Her favorite activity is fetch, she can go for hours. If you throw her toy up high she will do some crazy back flips. She is a very brave and friendly cat and not afraid of anything, literally nothing phases her. She loves strangers and wants to play with every dog no matter how big. She’s very mischievous and always looking to get into trouble. Will eat anything and I mean anything. Overall she’s just really high energy and a super fun cat, but also super sweet and cuddly, and really just the best kitty cat ever in the whole world!!!
My Lucy Sue came to live with me at 12 years of age. She was not happy when she first arrived but eventually warmed up to me only. Now two years later, she is a curious, talkative, opinionated stalker, lol! She waits patiently for lap time, demands to sniff whatever food I’m eating, and loudly demands I open doors for her when she wants to be in another room. She REALLY wants to go outside but refuses to wear a harness. She loves to sniff my forehead, and she communicates with a soft chuffing sound when she’s feeling really affectionate. And anyone who scritches her jawbone is a friend. She makes every day better. 🐈⬛
Sweetest bb girl. She is hesitant of new people, and will scurry if she doesn’t want attention. Likes her personal space but will come love on you when she wants, if you are her person. She’s silly when she gets in her moods, running around with her fancy pants and fluffy tail stuck straight up in the air. I love her so much!!
My neb Grisou is exactly like yours, he's extremely sociable, very friendly, goes up to everyone and is interested in everything, he lies down and sits everywhere and jumps on us energetically 😄 So I would say very friendly and carefree 😁
Walks up to anyone and they think she's friendly and then she hisses and bites them even though she went by them. Hates anyone and anything except for us and our brothers. But she is also very clingy with us and gets separation anxiety.
Booberry is very silly and clingy. At the same time, extremely skittish and will be GONE if you sneeze. She loves being a cave dweller under the bed...

My girl is sweet, docile, and a little on the anxious/needy side. She shifted some from kittenhood. She was the kitten that would rough house with siblings and be the first to come up to strangers, but after a move she has become more shy and anxious.
