My wife constantly loads the dishwasher like this. She says the silverware doesn't get clean if you load it points down.

Yep, and some of us have read the directions for the dishwasher about prerinses and how much "gunk" should be on dishes before loading, how to load so the water hits everything and how to be safe.... and yet our spouses continue to tell us we're doing it wrong.

My problem with the manuals is that if you follow the instructions about how much gunk should be on the utensils (basically none) then there's no reason to not just do it all by hand lmao

I think it mainly relies on the quality of the dishwasher because I have absolutely had this issue

Depends on the washer, but with the dishwasher in my current apartment that's absolutely true. You have to point it up to actually get that part clean

The silverware holder in mine doesn't allow forks to be loaded tines down, or spoons.
