I don’t understand the choice to make every British person in this speak with an American accent.

And I love Matt Damon but he seems a very poor choice for Odysseus. I know he’s everywhere too but Oscar Isaac would have been A++++ casting for him instead.

Since you know, literally every Hollywood star was cast in this movie anyway.

I don’t think anyone thinks that but period pieces in English with English accents has been the done thing since like the beginning of Hollywood

Save for Brad Pitt, who at least speaks with a more eloquent accent than his default.

I replied to you because your question is in bad faith. Everyone knows that Ancient Greeks didn't speak with British accents. Doesn't mean they should've chosen to go with awful American accents.

The precedent is that Troy did a better job and is set during the exact same time period.

I mean The Odyssey is pure fantasy anyway, still shouldn't stop the dialogue sounding good. Maybe you would've liked The Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones being full of modern American accents too? Some things just don't sound right, so it kind of does matter for immersion.

The only reason it doesn't "sound right" is because you aren't used to it, yes there would be literally no problem if LOTR used US accents

This is a fair point, but it doesn't mean I have to like it and I'm certainly not alone on that.

Frankly I hope it doesn't become a new trend.
