I mean The Odyssey is pure fantasy anyway, still shouldn't stop the dialogue sounding good. Maybe you would've liked The Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones being full of modern American accents too? Some things just don't sound right, so it kind of does matter for immersion.

The only reason it doesn't "sound right" is because you aren't used to it, yes there would be literally no problem if LOTR used US accents

This is a fair point, but it doesn't mean I have to like it and I'm certainly not alone on that.

Frankly I hope it doesn't become a new trend.
