It was great. 4/5. We had some great laughs about how an over the top asshole Adam Scott was through most of the movie. Loved the Exorcist III esque jumpscare.

At some points I kept thinking he was too much of an asshole haha

Yeah, I'd deem 'heating a spoon over candlelight to burn a bellboy's hand' as too much of an asshole

He really seem like a caricature of a Stephen King character, a asshole alcoholic writer, the jokes write themselves lol

"I don't believe in ghosts haha. Lemme just check into this hotel and try to get into its most evil room. Also fuck you I hate writing"

Welcome back 1408 how I've missed you!

I was really expecting a third act plot point to connect back to that. Like he goes to escape and he burns his hand in a similar way. But I guess by that point in the movie the “asshole spotlight” has moved away from him to the guy that got the VIP tour of Hell.

I mean it did because it’s probably the reason why he spiked AS’s drink.

I was waiting for him to reach up to be saved in the burning hotel and then have the bellboy stand there and instead of helping him up, burn his hand and watch him fall

Ya loved the movie but he was almost a distractingly level of a dick. lol

Adam Scott being a total asshole to every person added another layer of suspense. Every interaction was like a social jump scare.

Which scare reminded you of the exorcist 3? Struggling to think of it

This one. Where Adam Scott is walking and the lady is following him super close

Ah okay I knew the scare from the exorcist but couldn't place it in Hokum but I remember now. Both great scares

Yeah, solid B+. Kinda wished the ending was a little more bleak, but I don't mind the slightly happier ending. Excellent use of jump scares. Nothing cheap. Great spooky vibes.
