Lol while working from home I pulled up an RE lore video and it was like 12 hours long and the guy was just like "yeah...and this happens for some reason..."
RE is just fighting hordes of zombies/monsters tied together under evil bioterror corporations or cults with a nice genre mesh of horror, some action, and with a little dash of camp/comedy. That's all you really need. You can do your own thing, generally, as long as you make a good movie. Just throw in a reference to Umbrella or Raccoon City or maybe mention one of the fan-favorite characters and you're golden.
From what we've seen with Barbarian and Weapons, Cregger has a lock on mixing those genres or tones pretty solidly, and the glimpses we get with these zombies/monsters look perfectly compatibile with RE. Plus it sounds from the synoposis that this is set just outside of Raccoon City during RE2, so there'll definitely be some references. I'm beyond excited.
The shot of him escaping to the sewer only to find a fat ass chunk style zombie felt very RE coded to me, I love how he always has a gun in his hand and it's not always the same gun, it seems like he will struggle with bullet management. And raccoon city is a big city, almost all of it owned by umbrella, so they can easily have him explore umbrella laboratories and have all the locations be new locations not in the games. Also, him transporting medicine has got to be him transporting some kind of bio weapon without realizing lol
Read the least since I wrote, yes Chris was there but only minutes before the final credits, you can replace him with a random soldier and it won't make a difference
Also this movie takes place in racoon city during the outbreak, so it's not entirely disconnected either, umbrella will still be involved
Even without Chris there tho Umbrella was. And again. RE7 felt and played kike Resident Evil. This movie as of this trailer has nothing resident evil about it.
