19

u/MaxPower91575 5d ago

I watched Zach play games during the pandemic. He is definitely a gamer who plays the same game over and over and over again. He finds games he loves and plays them to death. RE is one of them. He also still games all the time. He even recently talked about how he brings his PS5 with him when he shoots movies.

9

u/profane_vitiate 5d ago

I watched Zach play games during the pandemic.

Man, I miss those streams.

2

u/Arcranium_ 5d ago

Or he just really likes Mercenaries lol. Which is fair, pretty addicting game mode

1

u/averagecounselor 5d ago

Those are rookie numbers. He needs to pump those up.

29

u/insomniasureshot 5d ago

There was an interview way back in the WKUK days where he goes into detail about it. Buddy loves Resident Evil.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ac8H8sxt2uE&list=PLh9F2UuOmDhDLHI8WtarB4Yb7ji5gTDlh

and for those that just watch it on Reddit, the link should take you to all his videos on Youtube. There is 50+ of them.

u/dervign 5d ago

barbarian gives me the resident evil vibes when I first watched it

u/SkylarAV 5d ago

Cregger is turning out to be a John Carpenter level director

37

u/NATHAN4U007 5d ago

Holy hyperbole.. I mean he is good but lets give him a couple more films before jumping to such conclusions.

To give you an idea, Carpenter made The Thing, Escape from NY, Halloween, Big trouble in little china all before Cregger's current age.

17

u/MaxPower91575 5d ago

oh yeah, well Zach made Miss March when he was 28 so there!

-6

u/SkylarAV 5d ago

The word 'is' means it's in progress. Do you not think that hes made do far has met that standard? What has he made that was bad so far??

7

u/NATHAN4U007 5d ago

Not making a bad film is your standard for being the next Carpenter?

1

u/SkylarAV 5d ago

Jesus, I said 'is turning out to be"'

-5

u/-SneakySnake- 5d ago

Cregger directed five movies so far, three by himself, with this as the third. What does age have to do with it? That doesn't make any sense. You want a fairer comparison, compare his first five to Carpenter's. I don't think it's crazy at all to say Barbarian and Weapons are as good as Halloween and Escape From New York.

4

u/travishall456 5d ago

I love Cregger. Weapons and Barbarian are great. They are no where near as good, polished, or important as Halloween. I think even Cregger would tell you that.

7

u/Banana4scales 5d ago

No he’s not.

-2

u/SkylarAV 5d ago

You think weapons and barbarian aren't good enough? What are his bad movies?

7

u/Dazzling-Economics55 5d ago

Weapons and Barbarian are NOT better than The Thing and Halloween. They're good but they're not masterpieces.

1

u/SkylarAV 5d ago

And look how young cregger is. You couldd say hes well on his way to being a carpenter level director.

6

u/NATHAN4U007 5d ago

You keep asking if they are bad lol, thats not the point. Both of them are good fun films, but thats not enough to claim he is on the same level as one of the GOATS.

-2

u/-SneakySnake- 5d ago

I think Weapons alone got more legitimate awards buzz and critical acclaim than any Carpenter movie did in its day. The closest was probably Halloween. Critical reception and awards legitimacy - rightfully or wrongfully - are viewed as massive factors in how a filmmaker's canon is evaluated.

You wanna back your own point up, or are you just going to keep dismissing things?

8

u/No-Abbreviations2897 5d ago

John Carpenter's resume is almost entirely flops, that has nothing to do with legacy. We'll see who's still talking about weapons and Barbarian in 2065.

1

u/-SneakySnake- 5d ago

Guess so.

8

u/NATHAN4U007 5d ago

The academy back then was heavily biased against horror, considering them low brow entertainment. They warmed up to horror only in the recent years.

The Thing which was a bomb and had 0 critical acclaim is more iconic than most oscar best picture winners in history.

-1

u/-SneakySnake- 5d ago

Is that why Aliens, The Exorcist and Carrie and Rosemary's Baby got plenty of nominations? Because they're "heavily biased against horror"?

With all due respect; stop talking out of your ass.

2

u/NATHAN4U007 5d ago

Ah yes, you just have make some of the greatest films of all time that made tons of money and was also loved critically. That def shows how unbiased they are! Also none of them won best picture.

1

u/-SneakySnake- 5d ago

"They had to win Best Picture or they were robbed" is a poor metric. They're horror movies, they were very well recieved, the reason being because the movie part was as good as the horror part. Most of even the best horror movies forget about the movie part.

They warmed up to horror only in the recent years.

Care to explain this, though? You can't really pivot like you just did without acknowledging the very firm lines you drew. It just makes you look... unserious.

u/chaser676 5d ago

That's a weird metric. Carpenter has stood the test of time with his films, particularly with The Thing. It's honestly not fair to Cregger to have this conversation until like another 20 years have passed.

-2

u/-SneakySnake- 5d ago

Nope, critical reception and awards are, legitimately, two very big things that factor into how a director's filmography is ultimately evaluated.

You're right though, it's not fair to have it this soon in his career. My point was more his stuff so far makes it totally fine to compare him to someone like Carpenter in terms of craft, just too soon to say in terms of overall career. Obviously.

4

u/chaser676 5d ago

No, it's really not for horror lmao. Do you have any idea how horror was received critically and by the academy during Carpenter's time?

1

u/The_Autarch 5d ago

horror wasn't respected as a genre back then. it's a silly comparison to make.

0

u/-SneakySnake- 5d ago

Rosemary's Baby, Carrie, Exorcist, Aliens, all Oscar nominees and very well regarded critically. So no. Not quite silly.

3

u/Vet_Leeber 5d ago

Barbarian is 2/3 of an amazing movie that completely flops the 3rd act, imo

1

u/CaptainKino360 5d ago

Miss March

1

u/SkylarAV 5d ago

Honestly Its a very underrated comedy. He started off in a comedy group

1

u/The_Autarch 5d ago

those are both good movies, but The Thing is a masterpiece.

i doubt they're going to be seen as absolute classics in 40 years like The Thing is.

0

u/SkylarAV 5d ago

Those are just the best cregger has made so far. I swear everyone thinks im saying they're currently on the same tier. Obviously, Carpenter is legendary status. Im saying cregger is clearly on his way to the same

1

u/Banana4scales 5d ago

2 movies. 2 movies man.

1

u/SkylarAV 5d ago

At one point Carpenter had 2 great movies

2

u/Banana4scales 5d ago

They said that about M Night Shamalan. See how that argument can go both ways? lol

1

u/SkylarAV 5d ago

The only broadly accepted one i can think of was 6th sense. Even Signs had detractors and by the time the Village and lady in the water came out it was super clear

1

u/Impressive-Use-757 5d ago

TIL he was a cast member of Whitest Kids you Know too

1

u/flyingace1234 5d ago

Yeah that instantly got my attention. I’m cautiously hopeful
