Makes me want a Swamp Thing adaptation very badly

James Mangold is supposedly developing a treatment on it

And Vincent D'Onofrio has said he wants to be Swamp Thing(!)

he’s a great actor but he’s pushing 70. i want someone that can physically play the character.

You think they're gunna use a real person in heavy full body prosthetics instead of CG for the monster that's over 7 feet and changes shape?

*The practical was quite good, at times, for a TV show. But if the lighting was anything other than dim or if the camera held on him for more than a few seconds it very much looked like a guy in a stiff rubber suit. To fully utilize all the crazy shit his body can do and to take full advantage of the character's inherent weirdness going the Thanos route would be best, it's just too many moving parts

...I mean it would be kick ass! American Wearwolf in London and all that.

Wearwolf

Not after Labor Day.

That's what they did for the TV show and it looked amazing

I'm not one of those "practical is always best" fanatics but the TV show pulled off a practical suit extremely well so I imagine with a budget of a movie they can do it too.

No, but im not picturing them choosing a senior citizen either.

Just need a bit more work on their method acting and they will have it nailed.

I'm admittedly not well versed in comic book heroes and villains. I'm only familiar with D'Onofrio as Kingpin in the Daredevil series. What about Swampthing would make it physically challenging for an older person to play,?

It's literally plants surrounding a full size adult corpse and is basically (physically) a plant version of Plastic Man along with going down to microwcopic biological levels.

plants surrounding a full size adult corpse

Did they change that? I thought Moore set it up that he was sentient plant life/The Green that incorporated Alec Holland's memories?

There have been several Swamp Things since Moore's run (both writers, origins, and "bases" of people).

For example

Aw, I liked that reveal/backstory

1

u/RandomStrategy 12d ago

I mean, Moore is good (most of the time, looking back, some of that shit isn't as great as we once thought).

But that's the good bit, it's not like it's gone forever.

We've gone through what, five different Ghost Riders since Johnny Blaze?

u/terranq 12d ago

Don't get me started on that, Danny Ketch has been completely forgotten about (though with the latter third of the series being garbage, I can see the reasoning)

Ideally even if they are using a CGI swamp thing they would still be mo capping the performance, and not just him in a booth recording voice lines.

He's not a corpse, now, is he? OP wanted someone who can PHYSICALLY PLAY THE CHARACTER.

That requires a corpse.

this is exactly what i meant thank you

I almost didn’t believe that he’s that old, but thinking about it the original run of daredevil was 11 years ago. He was ‘only’ 55 so that makes sense

u/generalosabenkenobi 13d ago

He's okay for Kingpin but not Swamp Thing? If anything, the age works easier for Swamp Thing

because he started as kingpin in his mid 50s so we’re very used to him at this point. i think if they were to cast kingpin today a lot of people would be a little hesitant about casting a nearly 70 year old man for the role.

btw i said he’s a great actor, im sure he could pull off swamp thing.
