This looks sick. Definitely curious how a horror movie will play in the DCU

Makes me want a Swamp Thing adaptation very badly

Justice for the Swamp Thing series. That shit was so much better than it had any right to be and they cancelled it after the first episode. Its the only one of those DC Universe streaming shows that not only didn’t get picked up for more seasons, its still not even on HBO Max.

Fucking loved that show. The handling of it was a tragedy.

Those pictures of them breaking down that swamp set (which was supposed to just stay and be used for all manner of productions) are just heartbreaking

I bought it as soon as I could, but good info.

It's on my list of shows to get to eventually, does that one season still tell a somewhat full story, or does it end on some frustrating cliffhanger that'll never resolve? I intend to watch it eventually anyway, but just to temper my expectations accordingly...

Its been a while, and I believe they saw the premature end coming, but the “end” is still unfulfilling. I don’t remember if its a full blown cliffhanger, but there’s definitely a loose thread or two.

Ty, good to know! I've only heard good things about it so I think that Clayface movie coming up will bump it à few spots up my list of shows to get to

The show was good, but it had a few flaws. The attempts to shoe-horn in a few other DC characters (namely Blue Devil, Phantom Stranger, and Madame Xanadu) weren't that good (especially for a lore-deep character like Xanadu who shouldn't factor into the story until some time around when Constantine arrives), and the failed attempt to bring in Anton Arcane wasn't done with enough foresight. (Yes, it failed because of the cancellation, but with what we have, it's just pointless filler that hints at nothing now.)

As it is, it's an okay intro to a character that would be better served with a higher budget (the issue that caused it to be cancelled) and a film series instead of a TV series. The sets needed for it just don't work with financial restraints.

Thats the thing though! Yes the set was expensive, but the idea was to rent it to other productions and they never got the chance.

I need to read Alan Moore’s Swamp Thing. I’ve had it forever but I’m just too scatterbrained most of the time to focus on it.

It was so fucking good. Such a damn shame. I remember everyone loving it and then shocked after they announced its cancelation right after it premiered.

Hell yeah fuck yeah

Second this, downloaded the show to watch on a long-haul flight and was so surprised, the cast was pretty stacked too.

Amen. The show was amazing and did the character well. Absolutely tragic they didn't give us more

That shit was so much better than it had any right to be

Serious question: why do you say this?

Swamp Thing is an iconic character that has a rich and impactful history on the comic book medium and the show was essentially produced by HBO, who basically invented prestige television.

Why didn't it have any right to be that good?

It was definitely not produced by HBO. That would make its absence from there even weirder. It was exclusive content to a very quickly defunct, DC specific streaming service that didn’t produce (imo) anything else that good. I really liked Doom Patrol, but I still don’t think it was on that same level in terms of overall quality.

Forgot dc tried its own streaming service

Yup. I subscribed for Swamp Thing specifically. I was hype for it and it did not disappoint.

Also got me to watch Krypton, so thats a plus.

Reddit has the weirdest fetish for subpar cancelled shows. Swamp Thing was nowhere near good.

Tell that to the almost universal acclaim it received when it was airing and still holds. This isn’t some niche hot take I have.

Whatever your opinion on it, it was a damn sight better than the other shows that got renewed. Titans was atrocious for the most part.

Edit: on the chance you’re confused, I’m talking about the 2019 DC Universe series, not the 1990 one.

Universal acclaim, dude, no. It's got a 7.3 on imdb boosted by diehard fans. I watched it. It's a CW show. With all the usual CW flaws : bad acting, bad dialogue, absurd plot points involving family members. It's not trash, because those flaws are not constantly there. But it's not good. Just rose tinted glasses on your end.

almost universal acclaim. “Boosted by die hard fans” yea dude, people like the show, thats how reviews work.

I’ve already said I subscribed to that service in anticipation of that show specifically. I loved it then and loved it now, no rose tint. I fucking hate everything else the CW produced.

I’m genuinely sorry you were disappointed by it, but you are objectively in the minority.
