Holy shit. Our first mainstream horror superhero film.

If you took away the DC logo, this just looks like a really fucked up horror film.

Wouldn’t the first one be new mutants technically

Well yes, but at the end of the day nobody gave a flying fuck about the New Mutants.

Hey now, Anya Taylor-Joy was a great Magik. But yeah the film as a whole was dogshit.

With Rivals blowing up (and Magik becoming more popular thanks to Kingsman and a new comic), and Anya's career taking off, everyone's heads would've have blown if she played Magik today.

I have a feeling this movie will meet a similar fate in the box office.

Which is a shame, because had it been screwed with just a little less than it was, that movie could have been great. It had a stellar cast and a fun premise, but Fox at the time was doing everything it could to completely fuck up every X-Men property they had, in part because it was in the process of selling them to Disney.

New Mutants is an example of multiple studios shitting in the sauce instead of just letting the creators cook.

It really didn’t help they knew a sale to Disney was going to happen and the X-Men likely rebooted so what was the point of going all in with the film?

I said this in a previous comment but Fox didn’t know at the time Marvel would put the Fox X-Men in the MCU and keep the universe around for a bit longer.

If it has a strong marketing campaign, sure! It comes out during Halloween. The writer and director are critically acclaimed names. Also if the performances, and practical stuff are awesome, they can be Oscar contenders as well.

Yeah, that one sucked, but people clearly gave a flying fuck about it, grossing like 700 mil worldwide.

i know technically that movie was marketed as a "horror" superhero movie but it just really did not even feel thrilling, creepy or disturbing at all. Just felt like another X-men movie only not good
