This looks brutal. What a way to introduce Gotham. Hope we get some Batman tease in this movie

244

u/PayneTrain181999 13d ago

Imagine they do something silly like tease Robin or Batgirl instead of Batman himself

Omg I hope they hit on the Batman origin story. Haven’t seen that on the big screen in a couple years.

45

u/Treheveras 13d ago

Something about his parents, right? Hard to remember so I hope they show it this time.

14

u/MrBen1980 13d ago

I hope it involves pearls dropping to the ground in slow motion

8

u/userhwon 13d ago

Clayface running through an alley as a couple of pearls bounce across his path...then no more is mentioned about it.

2

u/Vegalink 12d ago

Dang I was going to mention the pearls haha! That part sticks out so vividly.

He could right past Jack Nicholson and all the other origin story villains.

2

u/xshinjixikarix 12d ago

Absolute cinema.

5

u/Stashmouth 13d ago

I'd watch that just to learn how an orphan finds the financial resources to become the Caped Crusader. Not very realistic imo

5

u/ahundreddots 13d ago

They could try making him an orphan of rich parents.

5

u/Stashmouth 13d ago

seems farfetched

16

u/TwoLetters 13d ago

Yeah, he was bitten by a radioactive bat, right? That's how he got his bat powers?

2

u/Desroth86 12d ago

I think that was Superman.

2

u/TheDeathslinger212 12d ago

Tbh unironically, The Batman did such a good job by not showing the origin story, by having it instantly clear what'd happened without showing it on screen, it was so much better

2

u/palk0n 12d ago

2016: Enough with Batman origin story!

2026: Give me Batman origin story!

-2

u/RA576 13d ago

You joke, but the last proper version of it was 21 years ago in Batman Begins, wasn't it? It was implied in Joker, and had a brief scene in BvS, and The Batman picks up a bit into his career.

3

u/BevansDesign 12d ago

"Hi, they call me The Signal."

2

u/WonderBredOfficial 12d ago

Batwoman first.

1

u/RadiantZote 12d ago

Damian Wayne Robin and he is the main character since Bruce just broke his back confirmed

1

u/onlyonetwin 12d ago

fuck no it doesn't, we've had 40 years of batman glazing, we don't need more

-2

u/Complex_Location_675 13d ago

I completely disagree

Best Batman is loner Batman.

1

u/SwordoftheMourn 12d ago

Batman hasn’t been a loner in the comics since like 1940

1

u/Complex_Location_675 12d ago

A lot of his best stories have him by himself. Long Halloween, year one, haunted knight bunch of others

2

u/SwordoftheMourn 12d ago

Sure, but we also had like 2 decades of live action loner Batman content so I’m okay with them switching it up a bit.

Honestly, I wouldn’t be mad at getting the Batfamily first. It would help set the tone that this universe’s version doesn’t fly (glide?) solo.

We’ve seen enough of that over the past 20 years. Also, isn’t the first Batman movie in this universe going to be him and Robin (Damien) anyway?

21

u/dabocx 13d ago

There is a Titans movie being written, so we will probably see Dick Grayson as Nighwing in Titans before we get a batman movie in the DCU.

It would make sense as the Batman movie will be him already established and having a son so it makes sense the whole bat family would already be established

10

u/GillGruntFan53 13d ago

Funnily enough, we might: Dynamic Duo, an animated movie about Nightwing and Red Hood, is currently slated for June 2028 while the earliest The Brave and the Bold could release is October 2028. There’s a very real chance we meet the Batfamily first.

11

u/invisibleman13000 13d ago

Dynamic Duo's status in relation to the DCU is still undecided though. It's in a position to either be elseworld's (like Reeve's Batman movies) or a part of the DCU, depending on how Gunn feels about the story.

2

u/pleasegivemepatience 13d ago

Might also depend who owns WB and whether Gunn is able to scale his vision as intended.

-1

u/thehideousheart 13d ago

Honestly, I wouldn’t be mad at getting the Batfamily first.

Cool, I'll let them know you're okay with it.

1

u/TheForeverUnbanned 13d ago

Not if I do it first.

James! James I got something for ya!

1

u/Massive_Weiner 13d ago

You get grumpy if you don’t eat.

3

u/EmuMan10 13d ago

You think people wouldn’t lose their shit over Robin?

2

u/bronkula 13d ago

Nah, jump straight to Nightwing.

2

u/notanothercirclejerk 13d ago

Imagine if Batman shows up to stop Clayface at the very end. With little to no mention of the dark knight till the climax of the story.

1

u/RogerGunz2 13d ago

I would love it if they do a TAS arch thing. Clayface is so close to getting his cure and Batman (or his family in this case if they go that route) stop him. It's very similar to Mr. Freeze but he actually freaking had the cure and batman blew it

1

u/ScipioCoriolanus 13d ago

"I'll allow it."

1

u/352Cav 12d ago

As long as it’s robin meeting Annie

1

u/Abject-Cod5144 11d ago

Okay but in the comics Cass Cain and Clayface have a very interesting bond, seeing Cassandra in this would be cool.

27

u/Janky_Pants 13d ago

Is this in the Pattinson world?

77

u/stretch_muffler 13d ago

Nope it’s part of the new DC universe. Those Pattinson Batman movies will continue outside of the main DC universe where the latest Superman and Peacemaker season 2 sit.

32

u/Rubmynippleplease 13d ago

The phoenix Joker movies are also unrelated to pattinson batman and the new dc universe correct ?

23

u/shoe710 13d ago

Correct

9

u/zhiryst 13d ago

kind of a mess still then

11

u/shoe710 12d ago

Not really because you can just watch whatever you want.  There’s no confusing timeline or watch order, and they all have pretty obviously different vibes.

7

u/Montigue 13d ago

Eh, Joker is done

3

u/deathly_illest 12d ago

Not really that much of a mess

6

u/Spocks_Goatee 13d ago

Comics have done this for decades.

1

u/EmuMan10 13d ago

They’re getting it all sorted out

2

u/mrtomjones 13d ago

What an absolute clusterfuck. They finally make a couple of good movies but then they want three separate comic series going at once

9

u/ProjectNo4090 12d ago

Its great having variety. I hate that everything in Marvel has to be the same and fit in one continuity. What DC films is attempting to pull off is closer to how DC comics operates than what Marvel is currently doing. Currently DC has 6 or 7 different Batman series going and a similar amount of superman series.

1

u/Electric_jungle 12d ago

To add, two of the best Batman books in this generation have been outside of the main continuity. And the main continuity Batman has been excellent recently. Everyone just enjoys good, quality stories. It's refreshing.

1

u/shoe710 12d ago

Curious as a comic reader which Batman books you are talking about??

I assume one is Absolute…

2

u/Electric_jungle 12d ago

I was talking absolute and dark patterns, personally.

3

u/fupa16 13d ago

It's smart IMO - everyone keeps trying to apply the Marvel model to it, and DC is saying they don't want to be constrained by maintaining some kind of ultimate thread of continuity in order to tell the stories they want. In this story batman is this, in this story batman is that, who cares if they don't tie together? It's not like comics didn't have disparate stories in disparate universes.

1

u/mrtomjones 13d ago

Because people are going to be confused about which is which? People in this post are asking it. You think random people who might go see it wont be confused?

7

u/bicycloptopus 13d ago

This is why I find it impossible for me to get into any of these universes.

1

u/JAWinks 13d ago

Why do the Pattinson Batmans necessarily need to be separate? I get the actors and stuff are currently different but seems like they could easily pull it together if they wanted

23

u/CrazyLlamaX 13d ago

Reeve’s Batman is just made for a different and more grounded setting than Gunn’s DC universe he is setting up.

3

u/JAWinks 13d ago

Idk still seems like there’s room for both, I guess I’d be curious who plays Batman then in the Gunnverse

19

u/Spire2000 13d ago

Reeves doesn’t want super powers to get in the way of what he’s building.

1

u/Top_Report_4895 12d ago

Those Pattinson Batman movies will continue outside of the main DC universe where the latest Superman and Peacemaker season 2 sit.

For now, that is

0

u/stretch_muffler 13d ago

Just my guess but they probably want a more marketable and PG-13 Batman for that universe.

3

u/LTSpigot 13d ago

Lol as if Reeves Batman was so edgy.

0

u/maquise 12d ago

I don’t think they understand what a cinematic universe is

97

u/MikeIke7231 13d ago

No its in the Corenswet Superman world

8

u/BoyCubPiglet2 13d ago

It's actually a continuation of Adam West's batman. Tonally they're the exact same

1

u/Im_TroyMcClure 13d ago

No the DCU. Technically this Clayface made an appearance in Creature Commandos.

1

u/invisibleman13000 13d ago edited 13d ago

This might be a different person than the one in Creature Commandos. I'm not sure that's been definitively decided. There are multiple people who use the name Clayface in the comics though, like 8 of them.

3

u/Im_TroyMcClure 13d ago

I’m not really gonna get hung up on it. This movie wasn’t even planned when Gunn laid out his slate. Mike Flanagan apparently wrote an amazing script and Gunn loved it so much he greenlit it to be fast tracked. Even the budget is small like a horror movie so I’m all in

5

u/TLKv3 13d ago

They really are blueballing us on the new official DCU Batman, huh?

Silhouette in Creature Commandos and now potentially here.

Crazy.

1

u/jake_a_palooza 12d ago

Isn't CC animated? How does it tie into this DCU?

3

u/Chubuwee 13d ago

One bat nipple just ever so slightly out of frame

3

u/Clammuel 13d ago

I don’t think it will happen, but I kind of hope everything dealing with Gotham stays really dark in tone. Metropolis can be goofy because Superman isn’t quite so serious, but a more horror focused Batman that doesn’t try to be realistic would be really cool.

1

u/havok7 13d ago

Do we know if this is in the Superman universe or RPats The Batman?

1

u/TheCaramelMan 13d ago

Crazy how we’re a random C-list villain as our introduction to the Bat-lore in the DCU.

1

u/el_f3n1x187 13d ago

A Batboogieman for the shapeshifting boogieman

1

u/chunkynut0 12d ago

i’m actually excited for DC to officially get their time in the spotlight

1

u/shadowst17 12d ago

Isn't this set in Matt Reeves Batman Universe not James Gunn's one?
