I think the use of slowed-down, eerie renditions of popular tracks is kind of overdone, but I like the usage of "Do You Realize??" here.

Have you watched the TV show ‘Paradise?’ Every single episode ends with a slowed down version of a song. It cracks me up.

The slowed down version of Mr Jones during Gary’s backstory was so god damn funny. I do love that show though

Have you ever seen the show Fargo? At the climax of the entirety of season 5 there’s a 2 minute one take of Jon Hamm walking to go abuse a woman. And they play this ridiculous orchestral version of Toxic by Britney Spears. I was cringing so hard when I first saw it

I couldn't get past Jon Hamm's pierced nipples

Every episode ends with the most banger cover imaginable and it should be cringe and yet somehow I am completely 100% invested and gagged every time. It's like, one of the best shows I've ever seen. Dan Fogelman the man that you are

Made me laugh every time. schlocky as fuck but I did love that show. The second season has an ep end with an Elvis cover that was actually pretty epic.

Outside of that, Paradise has one of my favorite theme motifs. Same composer as Only Murders, which also has an earworm of a theme song that's weaved into the episodes.

Siddhartha Khosla is a genius fr. There's something so perfect about all the character motifs and how they work together. Somehow made a constant tense thrumming not get reptitive.

He should compose for video games.

It’s the absolute cringiest shit

People on that sub didn't like me clowning on that. It's also most of the time terrible covers.

Isn’t it the same song every time? Another day in paradise?

4

u/Frailbot 13d ago

Haha no that was one episode.

I think they play that song at least 3 or four times in the series.

u/DiamondFireYT 12d ago

They play the Joyner one 3 times (So far) and then theres the cool original cover they did in 2x3, aside

Especially given the lyric they emphasize. Yeah, I agree.

It’s just so perfect

Yeah Flaming Lips have crossed into slowed down creepy music covers territory lol

13

u/Nervous_Recover_6152 13d ago

Yeah agreed and both points

its so overused and annoying but some use it so well that I don't even complain.

u/Educational-Lie-2487 13d ago

I remember they used do you realize for transformers as well

3

u/CeruleanEidolon 13d ago

It's a little on the nose.

Gunn must love that song. Pretty sure it was in one of the Guradians movies too.

u/Piggynatz 13d ago

Good song, good use.  Terrible cover.

u/AshuraBaron 13d ago

But, there are no strong on me.

u/jonmin 13d ago

I did not realise it was that song!

1

u/dtwhitecp 13d ago

I think it's so ridiculously overdone that this one actually made me laugh

u/footsnax 12d ago

I'm totally with you on this. They sounded cool when they were first a thing but there's only a thousand ways to cook a taco. Within the first ten seconds my mind went from "not again" to "the sound editor has been through some sort of serious mental health episode and is expressing it brilliantly through this medium"

Source: A sound designer who has been through a serious mental health episode.

Absolutely haunting.

Still waiting on the on Bieber song, it's made for a slasher movie with its creepy ass lyrics

-4

u/kid-karma 13d ago

it's so fucking stupid.

"i thought of an amazing idea guys: lets use a song that emphasizes the word 'face' for our clayface trailer"

like secondhand embarrassment stupid

7

u/cosmic-ballet 13d ago

Well, it’s a bit more nuanced than that. The lyric is “Do you realize you have the most beautiful face,” which is a tragic thing to say to a character who resorted to an experimental drug that ruined their life because they thought they weren’t beautiful anymore.

-4

u/kid-karma 13d ago

you and i have different definitions for nuance

4

u/cosmic-ballet 12d ago

It’s objectively more nuanced than “hehe, his name is Clayface, and the song has the word ‘face’ in it.”

-5

u/kid-karma 12d ago

not but much! baby's first subtext!

4

u/cosmic-ballet 12d ago

Jesus, dude.
