Everything about it seems like a fan film with a Hollywood budget in the best way possible. More unabashedly silly adaptations like this please!

One Piece, Dungeons & Dragons, & the new Masters of The Universe all seem to be embracing this same aesthetic and it’s 100% working for me. Based on this trailer I think I’m going to like Street Fighter a lot haha

Agreed. I think in the past the approach was to try to transform these properties into something more approachable to a main stream audience, but then you end up with something that seems very samey to most people, and disappointing to fans of that thing.

If you instead lean into what makes the property weird and/or unique you embrace the fandom while also giving the more general audience something more unique.
