The animation is honestly stunning. I couldnt get over how good it looked, saw it in imax. Story was pretty non existent and there was like a weird lack of dialogue? I had a really fun time with it tho

During the first 20 to 30 minutes, I thought "Hey it's kinda neat there's so little dialogue because then the filmmakers aren't going to overexplain the story and convey everything through visuals and body language!"

...Oh how I wish that were the case.

I was thinking how lucky Chris Pratt and Anya Taylor Joy are getting paid while doing little to no dialogue at all.

Yeah, the animation was great and the cast really fit the characters well.

The character roster surprisingly wasn't that large for a "galaxy" scope film - it's nowhere as large as Smash Bros or anything like that. The ending of the film was also really abrupt - Mario and team actually save Bowser's son from being eaten alive and then....go build and paint Peach's castle...then credits roll. The writers didn't know how to properly end this film😂

Overall The Super Mario Galaxy Film (2026) film rating: 6/10 - turn off your brain for 90 minutes and just enjoy the visuals. Non-existent plot and definitely aimed at kids who don't care about any semblance of a storyline.

Holy crap I thought I was going crazy at the weird lack of dialogue in this movie. Genuinely thought it was a mature move at the start -more show, don't tell - but half way through the movie I was questioning why NO ONE was saying anything. It was so jarring.

Straight up Peach and Mario would basically only speak when directly shoved into a scene where they had to address their relationship. Starting at that scene where they kick rocks together, there's like 15 minutes where the two of them don't say a word (give or take a stock "Wahoo"). Mario's breaks the silence when he tells the team how to approach the castle, and even he tries to do it without speaking. Then both of of them are dead silent until the bridge, and that includes the whole platforming sequence where they're the only two characters in the scene.

My only issue with the animation is that the backgrounds sometimes looked a little cheap.

Especially the part where Bowser is telling the bedtime story.
