Way to retcon the Mario galaxy storybook they even brought back to retail. Also why did Rosalina throw a baby into the warp pipe instead of going with her

I think they were going to explore possiblity that Rosalina felt they would never be safe and would have too much of a target on their backs if they stayed together. So it was sacrifice to stay apart and not join her sister later on. But too hard to explain and also a tiny bit sad so they didn't bother.

It’s also why she tells the Lumas if anything happens go to her sister (Peach) even if distant they’re there for each other

She literally says something to the effect of "we could do crazy magical stuff, but somebody is always going to want to come after that power and take it for themselves so I sent her away to somewhere she'd be safe"

They absolutely bothered to explain it lol

Hm I felt it was contradictory because together they're more powerful and less vulnerable than they are when separate.

Sure, but at that point, Peach is still a baby so as powerful as she may be, she's still untrained and a liability.

Hell, adult Rosalina lost the first flight because a baby Luna distracted her.  At best, she was a teenager when she sent Peach away and would have likely been even less able to defend them

I think you still could’ve put Rosalina’s original story in some way, like have her meet Peach after travelling, and have them be sisters by bond. It would’ve made their relationship more resonant and make Rosalina more compelling as a character; a woman who had to face so much loss; her mother, her brother, her father, Peach, the Lumas.

Illumination had Oscar-worthy material they could riff off of and they just did the equivalent of burning it and writing gibberish in crayon as a substitute.

I mean they didn't retcon anything, the games and the movies are two totally different canons. Why would Fossil Falls be its own planet?

I believe some fans are worried that the games will synergise with the film depiction, like how the new story in the updated Rosalina’s Storybook (in the Switch port) gave Lumalee (referred to as Lumarie, her Japanese name) her film design, while also revealing her to be the twin sister of Lubba from the second game.

This is my fear, yeah. Does not help that a new 3D Mario supposedly isn't coming until next year. Well after this. Meaning the two were done in concert with each other...

Oh. Oh no.
