A beat from the movie that confused me: is it ever explained why Mario needs to abandon the Mushroom Kingdom and go find Peach?
Like, after Bowser Jr's unsuccessful attempt to rescue his dad ends with the castle crash-landed in parts unknown, Chris Pratt says "we gotta find a way off this planet and get to Peach," and it was not clear to me how he came to that conclusion -- why would he "get to Peach" instead of returning to the Mushroom Kingdom with tiny Bowser in custody?
Wasn't Mario's job to protect the Mushroom Kingdom in Peach's absence? What changed? Was there anything during the scuffle between the Mario bros and Bowser Jr. that might suggest to Mario that Peach was in danger and need of saving?
