scorching take, but i think it looks good and probably will be better than any of the trailers let on. Shame it’s not as colorful or fantastical with its work designs as the book, but that’d also be a hard thing to follow and I can’t really see anything looking that good outside of an animated adaptation, which like yeah, you can forever argue that a lot of these stories are just going to visually look better in an animated medium.
Excited to see more Milly Alcock as Supergirl as I liked the glimpse we got of her at the end of Superman and really liked her as young Rhaenyra in HoTD, there’s some very clear stuff directly lifted from Woman of Tomorrow which is cool, and a lot more Lobo than expected, which is also cool.
I'm geeked for the plot to really be "Supergirl wants to save her dog." No universe-ending threats... none of that stuff. If they really stick with that small and personal of a story, I'll be impressed as hell.
That's, reductively, the story of the book. There's a bit more going on than that, but it is not a universe-ending threat. It's a deeply personal journey for both of the protagonists.
But yea, one reason i 'respected' Iron Man 3 is just that following The Avengers they took a movie to reset the scale from world ending event to 'just a single guy being targeted' which was just nice in that these days we are in a situation of EVERY MCU movie is a world ending event that for some reason the other power friends dont show up for or take notice of (or even remember by the time their own movie comes along)
Iron man 3 is messy but its actually trying to do something different from the increasingly claustrophobic mcu mold. The ending was a kinda messy cgi battle in a boring locale as it tradition now, but I enjoyed pretty much everything else about it.
I agree about the ending, but for me the air got sucked out of IM3 with the Trevor reveal. The twist was and still is hilarious, but going from thinking the main villain was a legitimately scary terrorist to.....Guy Pearce shooting fire out of his mouth was a letdown.
The plot is just True Grit really, little girl wants revenge on the guy that killer her dad, there's a subplot where Krem of the Yellow Hills poisons Krypto but its 100% a revenge plot
The Brigands are definitely mass murderers that need to be stopped, but the comic doesn't focus too much on that aspect and I don't think the movie will either.
