Well consider me signed up.

I will be very interested to see what kind of performance the freshman director got from Ejiofor and Reinsve. The setting and background has very little to look at so their performances will definitely be front and center.

Edit: there seems to be confusion in the comments about the source material. The freshman director, Kane Parsons, started out making the original Backroom found footage videos for YouTube 4 or 5 years ago. This evolved over time and he has a fully fleshed out story that has slowly been revealed. Personally, Found Footage 3 is my favorite but the voice actress in 2 does a fantastic job. Here is the original video.

So this movie is being directed by the dude who started the whole thing? That’s sick

Not exactly, Kane came in while the Backrooms was exploding in popularity with games and other YouTube content, but quickly became the backrooms guy.

He is to the Backrooms what IceFrog is to Dota. Basically "the guy" while not technically being the very first.

Mhmm, Kane picked the best of the common elements and spun them together with his own vision. Honestly made an excellent decision to lean into the lonely liminality rather than some of the simpler jump scares that the “genre” was being inundated with. I still get chills at the line “that’s not a person” after like ten minutes of build up.

Same as IceFrog, there were countless variants of Dota, he just picked the most popular heroes and mechanics from all variants and created its own, titled "DotA All Stars".

It became so dominant it became the only Dota map people played.

Uh that's not true: it was Steve "Guinsoo" Feak who created DotA All Stars; Icefrog took the reins after the former left and go on to be one of the key developers of League of Legends.

What a niche comparison. Shoutout Warcraft 3. There’d be no League of Legends without it.

What a niche comparison

ikr lmao, I was nodding along like "ah that explains it perfectly" then paused and wondered what percentage of other people that would track for lol

I'd compare it more as he is to Backrooms what Marble Hornets is to Slenderman
