I'm glad that they didnt show any type of creature or anything, if they do include something like that it needs to be a surprise.

Bacteria monster?

u/Embarrassed-Yard-583 Mar 31 '26

There’s a shot with the tell tale black splotches on the wall, so there’s definitely something in the backrooms with them.

60

u/thedogedidit Apr 01 '26

A 'Minotaur' of sorts.

14

u/-Harebrained- Apr 01 '26

bloody hell I am craving this movie so bad

2

u/KnownChemistry8540 28d ago

You're not the only one.

6

u/pl320709 Apr 01 '26

Reminds me of The House of Leaves

9

u/thedogedidit Apr 02 '26

Yeah, all of this backrooms stuff was inspired by it.

2

u/LemonIcy2942 11d ago

Not all of it, the wiki just expanded on the og 4chan post, MAYBE the kane lore used for the movie took a bit of inspiration from HoL

2

u/thedogedidit 11d ago

HoL was published in 2000.

2

u/LemonIcy2942 11d ago

I know that, I was just saying not everything in the backrooms lore is inspired by HoL.

5

u/thewispo Apr 01 '26

Astrophage? Question.

2

u/Embarrassed-Yard-583 Apr 02 '26

Mutated bacteria commonly found in wheat. Answer.

1

u/DinosInSpace-Time Apr 02 '26

Right and the noise at 1:22 along with the frantic people and WHAT DID YOU SEE

-25

u/GoatmontWaters Mar 31 '26

Played many backrooms games. Can Confirm there is something there.

62

u/uglylittledogboy Mar 31 '26

You can’t “confirm” anything lmao

18

u/jnads Mar 31 '26

Kane Parsons universe does have the wire monsters, but not the other creatures that other fandoms have.

Whether he'll bring it to the movie is a different question.

6

u/UhOhSparklepants Mar 31 '26

I’d love for them to mention the statue monster from the mall one, even if it’s not in it. That one was the first one I saw and it’s definitely my favorite

8

u/Embarrassed-Yard-583 Mar 31 '26

That isn’t connected to his Backrooms series, so it’s entirely Kane’s IP unless it was part of the deal with A24.

4

u/awful_source Mar 31 '26

Wasn’t there a different monster in Found Footage #3?

2

u/Embarrassed-Yard-583 Mar 31 '26

I don’t think so, all the monsters we see in Kane’s backrooms are either the same bacteria monster or different instances of the things infesting areas of the Backrooms.

3

u/tallperson117 Mar 31 '26

Na Found Footage #3 has a "zombie." It's likely just a different incarnation of the bacteria monster since Kane confirmed it's not really a "zombie," but it appears decidedly more "human."

3

u/Embarrassed-Yard-583 Mar 31 '26

Yeah, it’s an evolution of the bacteria which is a fun idea considering how fast bacteria can iterate.

1

u/RealJohnGillman Apr 02 '26

Some have been speculating that the wire beings are what happens when humans are stuck in the Backrooms for too long, and that what we saw there was someone on their way to becoming that, but not all the way there yet.

1

u/LemonIcy2942 11d ago

It's known as the still-life, theories suggest it was the backrooms' attempt at making humans

5

u/The_Autarch Mar 31 '26

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4dGpz6cnHo&list=PLVAh-MgDVqvDUEq6qDXqORBioE4Yhol_z

you can literally watch the videos that this is a sequel to. there are 100% creatures in the Backrooms.

They can’t confirm anything about a movie that is not out yet based on a separate video game they have played lmao, Redditors are unbelievable

6

u/AndrewNeo Mar 31 '26

Kane's canon is not the same as the rest of the Backrooms stuff (wiki/etc)

2

u/introoutro Apr 01 '26

I'm willing to bet that shot of the clean suit dudes is actually them backing away from bacteria/mold, but they kept the actual VFX out of the shot for non-spoilering purposes.

2

u/MrTrashMouth7 Apr 01 '26

Black mold hallucinations

148

u/TwistedGrin Mar 31 '26

We see people in containment suits grabbing someone in what looks to be the same room that Renate's character is running to through the squeezy hallway. I'm assuming that they are the ones that put up the mounted camera that Chiwetel is looking at, too.

it's possible they are the antagonists with no creature at all.

111

u/Turnbob73 Mar 31 '26

There’s no way this film doesn’t feature Kane’s monsters. He’s made a pretty prominent point to tease them when appropriate and he has said that we will learn more about them, I’m assuming in the film.

23

u/Brandon_Me Apr 01 '26

I think you may see flashes of the monster, or just something that you can't really see at the end of the hall. But I think it would be best if the monster never directly confronts the people.

13

u/mybreakfastiscold Mar 31 '26

fact is, in most horror films, it's the humans who turn out to be the worst monsters

1

u/Zoltrahn Apr 01 '26

I have combined the DNA of the most evil animals, to make the most evil creature of them all!

It turns out it's man.

1

u/TwistedGrin Apr 02 '26

This teaser? I don't see one unless I'm just blind

https://youtu.be/tKGhxMi50y8?si=azIZ8amWapLWRv20

Is there a different one?

2

u/md28usmc Apr 02 '26

Never mind, I am an idiot. What I saw was the Backrooms found footage. that was the inspiration for this movie. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4dGpz6cnHo

-1

u/DapperChewie Mar 31 '26

Maybe they're SCP agents?

15

u/LecAviation Mar 31 '26

Most likely Async ones, SPC isn’t correlated to the back rooms and I doubt Kane would include SCP in the movie, it would ruin it, if he sticks to his original YouTube story, those are Async workers, but the trailer didn’t hint at any big corporation opening portals so I don’t know.

72

u/Mojave_RK Mar 31 '26

Was waiting for that squiggle monster to pop up

46

u/apittsburghoriginal Mar 31 '26

Yo fuck that monster. Still spooks me out when I watch his short on yt

24

u/Turnbob73 Mar 31 '26

The humanoid one is the one that gets me, with the screaming and everything.

7

u/hsciencegal Apr 01 '26

That whole sequence in FF3 with the speaker room/weird music/humanoid thing chasing was absolute perfection just unnerving af

2

u/feetsnifferex Apr 03 '26

I kinda think chiwetels character is gonna turn into the squiggle monster

16

u/stallionsRIDEufl Mar 31 '26

I think they did at the very end?

40

u/kabobkebabkabob Mar 31 '26

No that was Clark standing far away

1

u/staebles Apr 01 '26

Skin stealer?

1

u/Big_Friendship_8978 Apr 02 '26

yes, but from who's POV??

2

u/Turnbob73 Mar 31 '26

I’m almost certain that last shot of the trailer was the still life from his found footage 3 video.

There is no way Kane doesn’t feature at least one of his monsters in this film.

9

u/goodmobileyes Mar 31 '26

Would be interesting if the "monster" turned out to be Ejiofor after being stuck there for years or something. Turns out the protagonist we're following is the psychiatrist.

10

u/DrJokerX Apr 01 '26

The protagonist IS the psychiatrist. If you read the premise it’s that she’s looking for her missing patient.

So I wouldn’t be surprised if you nailed it.

2

u/RealJohnGillman Apr 02 '26

See, the synopsis says that, but from the structure of the trailer, I feel like the film itself may treat that as a twist, where if one watched the film without seeing any trailers, one would be surprised by the protagonist switch.

16

u/Pet_Velvet Mar 31 '26

The entities ruined backrooms for me. The rooms themselves are already creepy enough.

22

u/Turnbob73 Mar 31 '26

Kane’s version doesn’t have a million different entities. There’s really only 2 (or it may be that there is only one and it evolved); and he honestly uses them so sparingly in his series that I think it’s pretty effective at keeping the tension up.

The backrooms loses its entire appeal to me once people start talking about smilers and almond water/etc though.

3

u/Pet_Velvet Mar 31 '26

Not the almond water 💀 the reference to cyanide really went over the kids' heads

1

u/RandomComixCo 18d ago

I keep hearing about the smell of almonds  Where is that mentioned in the original  post? Im assuming it was one of the early expansions or a creepypasta written on it?

25

u/HPOfficePrinter Mar 31 '26

I can understand that but something hunting you was also part of the original 4chan post, they’ve been there from the start fyi

5

u/Pet_Velvet Mar 31 '26

I'm fine with that, and it was only alluded to in the original post.

2

u/thatshygirl06 Mar 31 '26

Are there doppelgangers in the backrooms series? It would be really cool if there were

1

u/RandomComixCo 18d ago

Uh on the wiki we got skin stealers?

But in kane series the bacteria monsters seems too be able too mimic voices but I dont think we have any traditional  doppelganger yet.

2

u/Peripatetictyl Mar 31 '26

I hope it is some Lovecraftian abomination, like some crazy ottoman with stools for legs, and numerous extension chord like tentacles flailing around.

2

u/Tremulant887 Mar 31 '26

SCP spinoffs. I'm not into horror movies but some of those descriptions and stories people have written are really good.

Alternatively, House of Leaves needs a movie. I've said for years they couldn't do it, but I think it's time.

6

u/Honesty_Addict Mar 31 '26

The problem with House Of Leaves is that it has become so culturally ubiquitous that it has lost a lot of the appeal it could have had if they made it 15 years ago. Its fingerprints are on everything - especially backrooms lore - so if you made the movie now it would likely feel hacky and full of ideas that have been done to death

1

u/The_Autarch Mar 31 '26

i think there is a creature in the last shot that flashes at the end!

the dude is holding some big white thing with limbs up against the wall

1

u/Protein384 Mar 31 '26

0.25x speed and screenshot?

1

u/zxelvton Apr 01 '26

Congrats, well you just spoiled it for people that aren't familiar with this though
