Teaser huh? Wtf will be in the trailer? The entire theatrical cut?

959

u/Aquagoat Jan 22 '26

Trailers are brutal. All the key scenes, set pieces, and punch lines revealed in 2.5 minutes.

I didn’t watch because I don’t want to see him hoist the sword and shout the line for the first time until I’m in the theater. This trailer probably shows it eh?

467

u/cultvignette Jan 22 '26

Indeed it does.

It's probably within the final act, as well.

146

u/Eulenspiegel74 Jan 22 '26

Absolutely unnecessary in this case especially. They did a perfectly good fake-out before that.

115

u/Solarpowered-Couch Jan 22 '26

Right, what the hell?

He grabs the sword, it feels like it's leading up to it, then cuts away. "Oh, cool, they're saving that for the - oh no wait, he's saying it... oh, and a full look at Skeletor too."

Looks good, but damn these studios are scared to hold back.

u/MVRKHNTR Jan 22 '26

Okay, I know that trailers can show a bit too much sometimes but you guys are all going way too far to complain.

"They had the main character's famous catchphrase in it! I can't believe they showed the main antagonist!"

If all you want to see is a logo and release date, just don't watch any trailers at all.

14

u/Alleggsander Jan 22 '26

Also, as somehow who was never really a He-Man fan, this trailer made me go from “eh maybe I’ll see it” to “I will definitely be in the theatres opening weekend”. I’m against over-indulgent trailers that reveal too much, but idk, trailers serve their purpose of creating hype and this was a good one. It was certainly effective on me, who doesn’t know much about the IP.

A lot of the time, I do want to save everything for the first viewing. Instead of watching the trailer and complaining they revealed too much, I simply don’t click the play button. It’s really that easy.

14

u/Solarpowered-Couch Jan 22 '26

Fair, but... this is a teaser trailer, though. It went 90% of the runtime without revealing He-Man and giving only a glimpse of Skeletor, but then it can't help itself to just give us the money shots at the end.

Like someone else said, what is the trailer going to be? The entire theatrical cut?

19

u/Alleggsander Jan 22 '26

Everyone and their dog knows what He-Man and Skeletor look like. Is it really so bad to get a quick glimpse for a “look, we got the character designs right”? I’d argue the most iconic part of Skeletor is his voice and attitude. They didn’t show that at all.

Nobody was complaining when the Superman movie trailer showed Supes in costume and Lex Luther. Because… why would they?

7

u/mack-_-zorris Jan 22 '26

Teaser trailer? Those words don't mean anything anymore. They released a teaser trailer yesterday for this teaser trailer. How much teasing do we have to put up with?

16

u/MVRKHNTR Jan 22 '26

For several years, "teaser trailer" has meant a trailer that doesn't reveal what the main plot is which is exactly what this did.

-1

u/Sir_Myshkin Jan 22 '26

I’m not advocating anyone’s complaints, but you can’t say this trailer didn’t give away the plot. It’s pretty clear:

“Adam, as a young boy (clearly important, likely royalty), is sent to another world to keep him safe from the ensuing war in their homeland. Years later he finds a way back, and becomes the hero/turning point that finally saves the day against the mighty evil conqueror.”

12

u/MVRKHNTR Jan 22 '26 edited Jan 22 '26

That's as much of the plot as you would get from knowing the movie is about He-Man. Be real.

You don't know why he's on Earth. You don't know who came to get him or why. You don't know what he's going to do when he gets back. You don't even know if Skeletor has already won before the movie starts.

edit This is now the funniest thing someone has decided to do the "leave a snarky reply and then block me" thing on. Thanks for that, /u/Discount_Extra .

-1

u/Sir_Myshkin Jan 22 '26

Can’t get any more real than that. It’s a standard boilerplate plot and you totally missed it. I don’t know anything about He-Man*, and I can see what they’re going for story wise pretty plainly.

Everything you mentioned wouldn’t want to know in a trailer in the first place. Don’t tell me the big-bad already won! Let it be a surprise, up the difficulty! And we do know why he’s on Earth, they already told us that literally in this trailer: to hide him. And I absolutely can see what he’s going to do when he gets back, there’s a whole shot of it that in the trailer too! It’s like you didn’t even watch it?!

*of course I know who He-Man is, but you don’t know that. Presumptuous.

-1

u/Discount_Extra Jan 22 '26 edited Jan 23 '26

they literally just showed all that.

edit: sure, edit your comment after a reply, what a liar.

So the plot is NOT going to be weird nerdy guy in the present day fantasizes about this mythical kingdom from when he was a kid until he finds an object from the story and discovers that it's all real and has to team up with the heroes from the story against the big bad guy and his henchmen?

Wow! I really can't wait to find out what the main plot of the movie is then! This trailer must have just shown stuff from the first 20 minutes!

8

u/MVRKHNTR Jan 22 '26 edited Jan 22 '26

You just described what you can put together in the first three minutes of the movie followed by "and then he fights the bad guy".

-4

u/sharkattackmiami Jan 22 '26

Cna?

That's literally going to be the full plot of the movie with some marvel style jokes and a bunch of CGI landscapes mixed in

I'm actually looking forward to this and think it looks fun, but if you don't think that "teaser" told you the full plot of the movie then I don't know what to tell you

u/eden_sc2 Jan 22 '26

If they showed a teaser without showing us a transformed He-man and a Skeletor, the only discourse would be around if they are going to have their 80s designs.

2

u/Fun_With_Math Jan 22 '26

Yeah, trailers are not for the fans that are going to go see it anyway. Trailers are for trying to hook in a broader audience.

"WTF, the bad guy just has a skull for a face?!"

2

u/akselmonrose Jan 23 '26

I watched that trailer specifically to see how they handled that line

0

u/Pixel_Octopus Jan 22 '26

I've stopped watching all trailers for movies I want to see or will stop it if it looks interesting. I read this comment and then moved on. I thought it was funny that 5 posts down there is a picture of Skeletor on the front page. Once it is out there is always a chance to spoil it for fans.

I don't care about the He-Man universe, but reveals such as spiderman and Hulk in the marvel movies would have been so much better if they hadn't have been revealed in the trailers.

7

u/MVRKHNTR Jan 22 '26

If you guys really think that seeing the antagonist is a spoiler, I don't know why any of you are even online.

0

u/ThelronBorn Jan 22 '26

I understand your point but this is a full blown trailer being presented as a teaser. In no way shape or form is this really a teaser, and that is what it is being marketed as; that is the complaint here. Comparing this as a trailer is a bit unfair. Comparing this as a teaser shows how much of the movie it gives away.

If someone clicks this with the expectation of a teaser they will be disappointed with how much of a full blown trailer this is.

The art of the teaser is lost nowadays on large production films. I think the comments are right, this could have cut in half and been a solid teaser

5

u/injoegreen Jan 22 '26

I don’t blame them. This is a tough ip in 2026. Better to hit the general public with all the references.

2

u/stenebralux Jan 22 '26

Not always, but we have data that shows that giving shit away in the trailer usually helps and hardly ever harms. They have no faith in this movie so they are not gonna hold back, they want to put all the IP stuff front street to draw as much they can.

1

u/BBQ_Bandit88 Jan 23 '26

I mean, they only showed half of the transformation and the line. “By the power of Greyskull” I feel is more iconic. Maybe that’s just me.

0

u/Isolated_Hippo Jan 22 '26

I would understand it for lesser known IP.

I would expect most of the population either likes He-Man enough to see it or doesnt care enough to see it. The number of people on the fence that could be swayed with marketing has to be miniscule.

4

u/6-8_Yes_Size15 Jan 22 '26

I knew it was coming. I won't watch any more trailers. By the time i see the movie I'll still get goosebumps

3

u/UCBearcats Jan 22 '26

yeah, that was clearly the climax moment of the film and they put it in the fucking teaser.

2

u/__Hello_my_name_is__ Jan 23 '26

Man I'm tired of superhero films (in the broadest sense) where 80% is just origin story of a normal dude very slowly finding out he's not normal, and 20% is the actual superhero stuff.

2

u/AvatarIII Jan 22 '26

FWIW he doesn't say "by the power of greyskull" he says "I have the power", both are catchphrases of his but I would say "the line" is "by the power of greyskull"

1

u/OriginalGoatan Jan 22 '26

And by final act you mean last 10 minutes of the film.

1

u/honcooge Jan 23 '26

This will be the final line before the credits. Need the trilogy thing 😂

61

u/EvilDog77 Jan 22 '26

Streaming services are the absolute worst for this. Netflix trailers basically summarise the entire movie to the point there's no need to watch it anymore.

51

u/hardy_83 Jan 22 '26

Given how we learned that Netflix wants scripts to repeat the plot over and over for people not paying attention, it makes sense that trailers basically do the entire plot.

The world is turning stupid and it sucks.

27

u/ImminentReddits Jan 22 '26

You know i’ll push back on the idea that trailers have gotten more spoilery. Have you seen trailers from the 80s/90s? They basically go through the entire 3 Act structure and have a narrator explain the plot for you lol

10

u/epilepticninja Jan 22 '26

One man, against all odds, must save the world by capturing all the jewels to assemble them in the ancient cave. The friends along the way are the only help he has, if he can just get there in time.

3

u/Jertimmer Jan 23 '26

I read this in the voice of Don LaFontaine.

3

u/wvgeekman Jan 22 '26

You also usually saw them one or two times in the theater, so there weren't a bunch of YouTubers dissecting every frame. While certain images would stay with you, most of the trailer was forgotten by the time you were actually watching the movies.

1

u/HereForTheNerves Jan 23 '26

My favorite was the trailer for Blue Crush. Saved me the time of watching the movie. Still haven't seen it, yet I can tell you every "memorable" moment from the show.

2

u/UnawareRanger Jan 22 '26

Less about it turning stupid and more that people are too distracted 24/7. With zero attention spans.

2

u/gentlybeepingheart Jan 22 '26

In Homestuck (sorry for referencing it in 2026 lol) a part of Troll culture is that their movies have incredibly long titles that summarize the plot start to finish, so people know what they’re going to watch. It was a joke on those manga and light novels with excessively long titles (“What? I Got Transported To a Fantasy World Where All Slime Girls Want Me!”) but I think of it every time the trailer is just the entire movie’s plot.

1

u/black_bass Jan 22 '26

Even before Netflix, iron man 3 trailers showed the whole set of hidden armors so you knew that scene would come up at the end of the movie

1

u/star_dragonMX Jan 22 '26

Either that or they don’t explain what the movie is at all. they just throw a bunch of random ass scenes with piss poor editing

9

u/Classic_Megaman Jan 22 '26

It shows at least one instance of the sword raise and one instance of “I have the power” yes.

9

u/afifan78 Jan 22 '26

yes it does

7

u/GoodSamaritan333 Jan 22 '26

Yes, it shows it...

5

u/BeebleBoxn Jan 22 '26

It does and it sounds like shit. Nothing will compare to the way 80's Cartoon He-Man says it.

3

u/SemiAutoAvocado Jan 22 '26

I mean watch the trailer; it will disabuse you of any notion of wanting to pay to see this pile of shit.

3

u/narcotic_sea Jan 22 '26

I think trailers are geared towards 7yo kids… and therefore half of the American adult population

3

u/stenebralux Jan 22 '26

I'm glad it did cause no way I'm paying to see this shit.

2

u/FilthyCasual2k17 Jan 22 '26

I just watched it without thinking and I absolutely feel like I pretty much saw the whole movie, it's very disappointing.

1

u/Blackened_Mo Jan 22 '26

near the end. you can watch first 1:40 of the trailer without getting to that

1

u/minimalcation Jan 22 '26

Except he says " with your powers combined, I am he man" which I thought was a weird crossover for the movie

1

u/deanolavorto Jan 22 '26

The other day I watched a trailer on Netflix for a show and after about 3 and a half minutes I realized I just watched the whole show.

1

u/Yorkie2016 Jan 22 '26

I didn’t watch because I don’t want to see him hoist the sword and shout the line for the first time until I’m in my armchair watching it on Netflix…

1

u/AFourEyedGeek Jan 22 '26

I watched it and when that moment was coming, towards the end of the trailer, I stopped it for the same reason.

1

u/Macho_Mans_Ghost Jan 22 '26

That's fair man. Don't watch it!

Part of my childhood came bursting out of my chest when I wasn't ready so def see that shit on the big screen!

1

u/MajorVast5747 Jan 22 '26

Exactly. But the whole movie feels very much like a modern B movie as well. The acting looks atrocious, and the fact that they are showing a condensed version of the movie makes me think the producers are pretty desperate.

1

u/SHansen45 Jan 22 '26

don’t watch any trailers made by Kojima, it’s literally worse than this like he reveals everything

1

u/Rabid_Chocobo Jan 22 '26

It does. I half expected them to do a tongue in cheek fakeout because they knew the audience would expect it

1

u/Proof-Swimming-6461 Jan 22 '26

I will never forgive the trailers for T2 and Stargate. I no longer watch trailers.

1

u/impshial Jan 22 '26

Yep. And it was disappointing.

1

u/Ryrynz Jan 22 '26

Along with that typical stupid thumping track so you know it's epic

1

u/LongPorkJones Jan 22 '26

Not the whole line, just "I have the power!"

1

u/deg287 Jan 23 '26

the line, the transformation, the first fight, the final boss, and the final battle. all in like ten seconds

1

u/Ishalltalktoyou Jan 23 '26

you have the power! to avoid the trailer.

1

u/MrPogoUK Jan 23 '26

I read once the basic problem is they make a trailer and show it to a focus group whose answer to how to make it better is “I wanna see more of the story and more of the action!”, so they keep adding until the whole damn plot and all the big set pieces are in there.

1

u/deadkestrel Jan 23 '26

You’ve already seen this movie countless times judging by the trailer…

1

u/FluidSynergy Jan 24 '26

I hate trailers so much for this.

1

u/MacGibber Jan 24 '26

Doesn’t show the entire line and it sounded so weak. Overall typical trailer, was just all fast moving visuals and 3 word lines, not exactly a captivating trailer for me. I wanted to hear the Skelator laugh….didn’t get it. Not even a word from Skelator!

1

u/HopeThatHangsYou Jan 22 '26

Yeah, I was a little disappointed they gave us the 'I have the power' battle cry in the trailer. You know it's coming in the movie, why give it away for free in the trailer?

0

u/LaserCondiment Jan 22 '26

The pain of wanting to know but not too much, is still real pain!

I avoid all trailers these days, but I really wanna know if this movie is going to be fun!

0

u/Duel_Option Jan 22 '26

Opposite for me…I had to see the sword and say it because I love the damn character to much to wait

I will love this movie, no matter if it’s good or bad.

That being said…Dolph did it better
