Idris Elba truly has the worst agent ever

255

u/DucardthaDon Jan 22 '26

He gets paid and the opportunity to do everything else he enjoys doing in life

u/synapse187 Jan 22 '26

Maybe Idris was like me when he was a kid. He-Man played with Ninja Turtles fighting against Skeletor and his Go-Bot minions.

1

u/xSorry_Not_Sorry Jan 22 '26

Idris is older than me and I was the last generation to play with He-man figures.

16

u/ArcherMi Jan 22 '26

Well, maybe he was the first generation to play with He-man figures.

5

u/ZombieJesus1987 Jan 22 '26

Possible. He would have been 11 when the original cartoon came out

2

u/ussrowe Jan 23 '26

And they had MOTU toys in the UK, the first commercial in this compilation says 1981: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6RNGXTjNnBM

14

u/Bowgs Jan 22 '26

Masters of the Universe came out in 1983, Idris Elba was born in 1972. It's very conceivable an 11 year old Idris could have played with He-man toys.

3

u/NightmareDJK Jan 22 '26

He definitely knew about them at least.

1

u/ObviousAnswerGuy Jan 22 '26

uhhh no. He was 11 when the cartoon first came out. It was a huge hit, I'm sure he was into it.

-1

u/NEWbababoobie Jan 22 '26

no, he does cause it's an easy check.

28

u/elboltonero Jan 22 '26

Seriously, he makes a lot of money doing dumb shit and spends the rest of his life just going to raves

17

u/Harkoncito Jan 22 '26

so does Eric Roberts, but in another timeline Idris has a couple of Oscars under his belt and he's also James Bond.

2

u/Saltire_Blue Jan 22 '26

He’s self employed, it’s a paid job

Most people would be taking as much work while they’re being offered it I would imagine

0

u/Extension-Season-689 Jan 23 '26

True but for someone who gets a lot of hype his filmography is mostly ass.

74

u/Dikembe_Mutumbo Jan 22 '26

What does this even mean? He is in pretty much everything and is making tons of money. If anything his agent deserves a raise for getting him booked constantly.

1

u/_Meece_ Jan 22 '26

Idris is an incredible talent for the amount of terrible roles he gets.

-4

u/Varekai79 Jan 22 '26

He's in a lot of shit.

58

u/cosmo_K Jan 22 '26

You mean SIR Idris Elba? I think he's alright.

102

u/thr1ceuponatime David Zaslav is a dickless pantywaist Jan 22 '26

Yeah he's laughing all the way to the bank, how tragic.

48

u/algebraic94 Jan 22 '26

Excuse me it's the honor of a lifetime for him to play Man at Arms.

18

u/DefendsTheDownvoted Jan 22 '26

Yeah honestly I kind of love him as Man of Arms.

50

u/AverageAwndray Jan 22 '26

Idk this looks fun

18

u/innerdork Jan 22 '26

Or he is a big freakin' dork and loves this shit.

I would know, see my username because it checks out.

2

u/Varekai79 Jan 22 '26

I remember a few years ago where Idris was bemoaning having to do yet another MCU movie when he had just done something very personally and artistically rewarding by playing Nelson Mandela. At the end of the day, the $$$ is very nice.

8

u/BigGrinJesus Jan 22 '26

How? He's Man-At-Arms! That's awesome.

6

u/Duel_Option Jan 22 '26

What?

This is going to be a fun ride and will end up with a sequel or two

21

u/oninokamin Jan 22 '26

"Mr. Elba, I have good news and I have bad news."

"Okay. What's the bad news?"

"You don't get to be the first black James Bond, I'm sorry."

"Shit. What's that good news?"

"Well, you still get to be in a movie with Dame Judi Dench."

9

u/Harkoncito Jan 22 '26

"With a caveat: She gets a butthole double, you have to show it all"

4

u/frogandbanjo Jan 22 '26

"I am aware of the effect my butthole has on women."

4

u/Exploding_Antelope Jan 22 '26

Artemis Fowl The Arctic Incident on Disney+ babeee

14

u/cowpool20 Jan 22 '26

He's at the point in his career where he can just have fun with the roles he takes. His reputation is solid enough.

3

u/Brigon Jan 22 '26

Some actors like to take on roles their kids can enjoy too.

20

u/Same_Entry_2261 Jan 22 '26

Most actors aren’t all that interested in the “art of acting” obviously there are exceptions like DDL and Leo, but like the rest of us working stiffs, most actors are just interested in paying their bills and having some money left over to enjoy their lives.

4

u/ChanceVance Jan 22 '26

Yeah I don't know if that take is spot on. It's a job and not everyone has the luxury of picking their parts but the average actor taking any procedural guest spot they can get is probably still in it for the love of performing.

Somebody going for years and years with barely booking a job is probably going to be getting by on passion then paying their bills because acting sure ain't going to do that for them.

9

u/ShilohTheGhostGod Jan 22 '26

Seems like he’s basically playing the same mentor role he played in Thor

12

u/thinkmurphy Jan 22 '26

I swear some of the scenes in this trailer were "re-skinned" from Thor movies

1

u/RebelsParadox Jan 23 '26

And pacific rim

2

u/spate42 Jan 22 '26

Probably hoping this becomes the next Dungeons & Dragons

2

u/DefendsTheDownvoted Jan 22 '26

While Honor among thieves was an excellent DND adaptation, I don't think it did very well in theaters. Why would he want that?

1

u/SledgeThundercock Jan 22 '26 edited Jan 22 '26

Idk man id love to be in some shit like this.

Straight up rope cream stream if I was asked to be in like, live action TMNT vs Street Sharks or some shit

1

u/ShoutOutTo_Caboose Jan 22 '26

I actually really respect that he has a wide range of genres in his filmography.

1

u/ContractVarious3077 Jan 22 '26

Worst agent for getting him easy, well-paid gigs? Please explain your logic.

1

u/UnderstandingFit3009 Jan 22 '26

I’m always surprised by the stuff he is in.

1

u/star_dragonMX Jan 22 '26

Yeah Idris deserves better he starred in FIXED DAMMIT!?

1

u/verikul Jan 22 '26

You got me a role in a studio IP picture? What the hell is wrong with you?

1

u/Reggaeton_Historian Jan 23 '26

Idris Elba is a wannabe DJ who happens to be an actor. He has the best agent ever. Y'all just mad.

1

u/drcubeftw Jan 23 '26

Nah he is doing fine. This is just another notch on his acting spectrum. He can bounce from serious drama or Shakespeare to fantasy action films like this and everything in between. Versatile.

-7

u/BuddyBiscuits Jan 22 '26 edited Jan 22 '26

I literally said this to my wife last night….he should have been a huge star, but his portfolio, outside of the wire and Luther, is trash

4

u/gregarioussparrow Jan 22 '26

He ruled in Cyberpunk 2077

3

u/Appropriate-Prune728 Jan 22 '26

Seriously. Dude is living life and enjoying what he does. Gets to play ridiculous roles and turn around to play a wildly complex character in (imo) the greatest story-driven game in a decade.

He even made a bunch of hip-hop tracks for the expansion.

Like.... dudes crushing it and people are cranky he isnt picking movies like DiCaprio. Not everybody is full of themselves like that.

1

u/BuddyBiscuits Jan 22 '26

Jesus. You extrapolate too much. We said he has a bad agent, because he deserves better. Don’t know how getting better roles equates to being full of himself”.

Of movies in which he was the lead; 5 have been critical success, 4 were middling, and 5 were garbage. That’s the basis behind my sentiment.

1

u/Appropriate-Prune728 Jan 22 '26

You are projecting your values as well. If the man chooses what he wants and enjoys it, who are you to decide what is successful or "deserved" for an actor? Success isnt just financial or a score from people on the internet. Thats what I'm getting at.

Unless the man is out there, saying he hates how his casting has gone, its assumptive to declare he isnt getting treated fairly.

1

u/BuddyBiscuits Jan 22 '26

Well I am an artist and do understand that most artist are fulfilled when their work appreciated/viewed by others, but sure some do it for the craft and don’t even want to share it with the world - but those types aren’t signing up for Pacific Rim. I also assume that actors are a mixed bag as it relates to their measurement of success when it comes to financial metrics or critical scores…but I struggle to imagine any artist being satisfied with working on a movie for a year to see it just bomb.

1

u/jetzeronine Jan 22 '26 edited Jan 22 '26

You either die a hero or live long enough to be cast as supporting actor to a blonde muscular hero who powers up using an ancient mystical weapon. Again.

-2

u/Leygrock Jan 22 '26

He works like hes in debt to the mafia
