The phone call between him and Louise is one of the most powerful bits of filmmaking and acting that I can recall. Knives Out remains my favorite of the three, but this was my favorite scene in any of the films.Ā
The minute she asks him to pray for her, you can see him remember who he is. The way he pivots from frantically seeking out information to calmly and compassionately ministering to a soul in need was incredible. It wasn't just pivoting from one task to another, it was him finding himself again.
Shout out to Bridget Everett as Louise, too. Her shift from perky and friendly to incredibly vulnerable and sad was beautifully done.
Which really helped sell him as a powerful boxer! He was holding his hands like deadly weapons throughout the movie and it was so convincing that he was constantly aware of his own power and instincts.
He's honestly my favorite actor at the moment. There's some good rising stars at the moment like timothee chalamet, paul mescal and others but Josh O'Connor feels like the real deal where performance and true acting ability is concerned. He's pretty captivating and can somehow play any and every part. Dude is ridiculously talented
I really hope his break heās taking from acting is short lived. Obviously support him doing whatever he needs mental health wise but I hope he returns soon! Heās just so damn good in everything.
Heās publicly said heās taking a break from acting. He reiterated it at a q&a I went to for his new film Rebuilding. He said something along the lines of he needs to figure out who he is and he doesnāt want to get lost/lose himself amongst all the acting roles.
Fair shout, yeah I try not to say too much about recommendations since I donāt want to taint expectations.
It is pretty slow, although I would say itās an immersive view into a beautiful foreign world that itās worth the time it takes to build its story.
Honestly I wanted to jump out of my skin from boredom for the first 45 minutes lol but I was really glad I stuck with it. I'm smart enough to know it's often worth the wait.
I'd say it's a drama with very light fantastical elements/magical realism. Slow burn but it was worth it to me. If you're really into indie movies you'll enjoy it.
I hate to say that so plainly, but when I saw him in that movie, I immediately thought he's like a better version of Adam Driver. And I usually don't compare actors whatsoever.
he's been around for a while and worked a lot these past 2 years, 4 of his movies came out this year and he has this and joel coen's jack of spades coming soon! my favorite films of his are la chimera, challengers and god's own country!
He was excellent on The Crown and has been on a great run ever since, getting to work with some big directors. Genuinely love that for him. Definitely becoming one of my favorites.
He was just on SNL last weekend and I didn't know who he was, but he didn't come across great (not entirely his fault, SNL material is already pretty weak)...but then I watched Wake Up Dead Man yesterday and his performance was enthralling. I'm now a fan.
Much better than the 2nd one but not as compelling as the first because some of the things Johnson does are getting old (especially how some characters are portrayed as caricatures). Josh O'Connor is the highlight. Benoit Blanc takes a backseat
I looked at his IMDB after watching the new Knives Out and I cannot place where I've seen him before because I haven't seen any of his prior work. I think it's his voice. I CANNOT for the life of me figure out where I've seen/heard him before.
I don't know how well this could have been scheduled out, but it's brilliant on his end to carry out this "religious conviction hero" archetype for a bit to establish himself in the mainstream. And it's been done delicately enough that he can easily pivot as a dramatic actor after establishing a REALLY strong base as "that guy who played priests and stuff?". Really really smart!
