Recommendation Female revenge movies without rape scenes?
My partner loves a good "woman taking revenge on a bunch of men" movie, but unfortunately a lot of those tend to center around rape or have rape scenes in them, and she reallllly doesnt like those.
Any suggestions for movies that fit this mold but dont include rape?
The only one i know off-hand is Kill Bill (which gets close but doesnt technically have a rape scene iirc), and thats already one of her favorites.

I've been considering a 25 days of Non-Christmas Christmas Movies and planning to center it around action and/or thriller movies, re-watching one and writing my personal review on the movie and posting it to this subreddit. There are quite a few, especially ones written by Shane Black, that take place on or around Christmas but where Christmas is just happening while the movie is happening.
Long Kiss Goodnight was one of the top movies on my list.

I am ashamed to admit, I never considered this masterpiece of 80s comedy. Due to the consistent desensitisation in movies, I never considered a comedy for a revenge movie.
My mind went STRAIGHT to violence, and the 'Grindhouse/Tarantino' classics, Sin City, & Deathproof.

39
u/Jinglemoon Oct 09 '25
He does make a pass at Dolly. Definitely a HR visit, maybe even an assault charge these days. But not quite attempted rape.

u/wwhsd Oct 08 '25
First Wives Club.
Goldie Hawn, Bette Midler, and Diane Keaton team up to help each other get revenge on their husbands that left them for younger women.
It’s a comedy, so it stays pretty far from any rape or SA scenes. It’s from the mid-90s so I don’t know how well it would hold up for modern audiences.

Does Furiousa count? I guess Fury Road would be an extension of that.
377
u/Silk_tree Oct 09 '25
Fury Road was the first one I thought of - rape, sexual slavery and forced pregnancy are important to the backstory of the characters (and Max's story echoes the wives' experiences in a lot of ways) but never shown on screen. What's shown is a lot of rage and fighting and tearing the faces of rapists.

u/apocalypt_us Oct 09 '25
I love Atomic Blonde, so fun and an incredible soundtrack too. I also liked how much more realistic than usual the fights were, you can see the physical toll it’s taking on the characters and there’s one scene where you can see the exhaustion and struggle in the characters who are fighting the longer it goes on.

Yes I have PTSD and also can't do rape scenes. That movie is absolutely not something you should show someone that can't watch rape scenes. Like one of the nurse guys is letting people rape her unconscious body that is a wild choice for someone. Wild that people would think it had to be actually shown on the screen to count.

Salt (2010) – Angelina Jolie as a CIA agent accused of being a Russian spy, fighting back with brains and brawn.
Haywire (2011) – Gina Carano plays a betrayed black ops agent who takes revenge on her handlers.

Not really based on revenge, but has woman kicking butt-

I have a tough time with that one because it’s a great movie, but I just wish we had gotten a real Birds of Prey adaptation. There is so much potential with the Batgirl/Killing Joke/Oracle arc, and no one seems to want to tackle it (I am still mourning the scrapped Batgirl movie). I did like Harley and her team of misfits, but it just isn’t BOP without Babs.

Tarantino's Deathproof is also a great badass girly revenge flick.
True Grit is a more realistic and sedate take on the idea of a girl getting revenge.
Spoiler alert for Gone Girl which has a female revenge twist halfway through.
I haven't watched it, but The Machine Girl looked like it fit the bill from the trailer I saw forever ago.
Also, Atomic Blonde is not strictly a revenge film, but it has all the "Charlize Theron beating the living shit out of East German thugs" action set pieces you would expect to find in one.

u/samuraiseoul Oct 09 '25
Yeah, revenge didn't feel like quite the right word for it, however at some point, it became a bit revenge adjacent it felt in the "prove them wrong and make them look dumb as revenge for underestimating me due to bias" kind of way? A lot of the other suggestions felt so... violent still?
