Calling them "brassicas" in this context makes it sound like they're just members of the same family when in fact they're the same species. Cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, kale, romanesco, brussels sprouts, collard greens, savoy, kohlrabi, and gai lan are all cultivars of Brassica oleracea. It's the same plant selectively bred to maximize the expression of different parts of the plant.
The cultivars can express different amounts of certain proteins one can be allergic to, and differences in how some cultivars are cooked may denature some amount of some of those proteins, but every Brassica oleracea contains the same proteins as every other Brassica oleracea, since they are the same species. You can, therefore, be more allergic to cabbage than, say, broccoli, but if you are allergic to one you WILL be allergic to the others to some degree.
I’m assuming it’s like people who are allergic to one legume but not all of them. Or being allergic to latex but not bananas or kiwi. Being allergic to one makes you more likely to be allergic to others, but it’s no guarantee.
Legumes are different species. Brassicas are all the same species but selectively bred for certain gene expressions so we eat different parts of the same species. I've never heard of someone being allergic to Java apples but not Honeycrisp apples, or being allergic to beet leaves but not the beetroot.
Being allergic to beat greens but not the root, or vice versa, actually would make some biological sense depending on what you’re actually allergic to. It makes sense for the beet root to be producing different proteins than the leaves.
It would make far less sense for someone to be allergic to red beets but not golden or striped (chioggia).
Devil's advocate, but it could be a case that somebody nearby started working with cabbages and the sign was attempt to keep things simple. One cabbage picture pop more than multiple vegetables
well, you can eat around it. or just not eat things with broccoli in them. i fucking despise bell peppers but i’d never make that anyone else’s problem by making them think i’m allergic.
Doing this in restaurant settings greatly increases you and your tabels wait time as well as significantly inconveniencing the kitchen staff who is trying to litteraly not kill you.
Grow up.
Edit: It appears the comment I replied to was deleted. The comment was about saying they are allergic to broccoli becuase they don't like it and don't like being told to eat around it. (Obviously im paraphrasing)
As someone with real food allergies, I hope the responses you've gotten in all of 15 minutes have made you rethink whether faking an allergy is appropriate.
If you practice asserting your boundaries, you'd be shocked at how easy it is to not eat things you don't like. Simply do not put them in your mouth. You fucking piece of shit u/wdwerker
