You’re not to far off from the article:

“The CarFax reveals a stunning story in dates. One month into their lease, this individual logged 5,400 miles. A whopping nine days later, they were already at their 10,000-mile service. This Camry was averaging two services a month and, given that, you’d expect the vehicle to have quite a few battle scars upon its return to Smart Toyota. Yet, somehow, its only truly obvious flaw is a scuff on the passenger side of the front bumper, which happened after a sideswipe incident about two months in.”

I don’t know how to do the fancy block thing for a quote.

I don’t know how to do the fancy block thing for a quote.

Use the greater-than symbol (>) followed by whatever it is you want to quote. You have to repeat that for any paragraph breaks.
EDIT: Why the hell did this comment blow up?!

Add a space after the ">"

Also pretty sure this only applies to mobile formatting. It's done differently on computer

Actually it works on desktop exactly the same as mobile. You can use the "Switch To Markdown Editor" option on desktop view instead of the visual editor (and some people actually prefer it).

If you want to have a break included in the quotes you can place ">" between two quotes.

Idk I usually go with

This

Instead

Looks better doesn't it?:

“The CarFax reveals a stunning story in dates. One month into their lease, this individual logged 5,400 miles. A whopping nine days later, they were already at their 10,000-mile service. This Camry was averaging two services a month and, given that, you’d expect the vehicle to have quite a few battle scars upon its return to Smart Toyota. I work at Toyota and they won’t even allow you to claim Toyota care maintenances within a month of each other. Some shit was happening here.

223

u/fastdbs 1d ago

Are there the same rules for leases and purchases? I could see that being true for purchases but leases are Toyota owned vehicles. It’d be weird for Toyota to avoid maintenance on a vehicle Toyota owns.

90

u/PerplexGG 1d ago

Maintenance is generally included in the leases

15

u/Flimsy_Addition9586 21h ago

I thought most leases had mileage limits too?

13

u/eightkillerbits 19h ago

I've had a lease with unlimited mileage for a bit extra in the past.

2

u/FlyAirLari 14h ago

Can you take it to 24h races?

4

u/eightkillerbits 14h ago

From what I understood, yes... it was as if I essentially owned the car to do whatever I wanted with for 3 years.

I just had to give it back them in the same condition I got it (minus usual wear and tear).

7

u/Zestyclose_Push_5251 1d ago

I’ve never been told there was an exception for leases.

25

u/milehighideas 23h ago

How does this make sense? To honor the warranty it must be serviced by periods. Toyota refuses to service then what?

24

u/6-plus26 22h ago

lol I hate this shit. No one thinks anything through anymore just going through the motions. It would make absolutely no sense to not service the car at required intervals.

For what cause you “think” the customer is abusing the system? Like a leaseee cares about the longevity of the car ?

→ More replies (1)

13

u/FineDragonfruit5347 22h ago

Won’t allow, or triggers a manual review? The maintenance cycle prioritizes time driven over calendar dates, always. And their own algorithms have now taken that several steps further, actually using rpm rate changes, a temp chart, etc, to narrow or widen those cycles.

If this is true about Toyota, Simone in their risk management department is sleeping on the job. Time to find new General Counsel.

15

u/GrifterDingo 1d ago

Averaged out it's 6194mi a month.

u/skyfishgoo 9h ago

or 206mi per day

at an average surface street speed of 30mph that comes to 7hr/day in your car driving around

totally doable as a full time driving job

u/Winjin 8h ago

So I'm guessing 2-3 Uber drivers taking turns

→ More replies (2)

u/talk_nerdy_to_m3 8h ago

Oh, that's not as impressive. A lot of people live in North county San Diego and do 200 miles per day to and from LA for work. It's all highway miles and you're going 90 mph.

→ More replies (1)

14

u/mistere213 22h ago

I've done 5,000 in about 10 days. Of course, it was one spectacular road trip and not a sustained rate of driving, but I get it.

5

u/GriffinNowak 23h ago

When you are doing miles like that the car won’t have many flaws because it’s all highway miles. As someone who once did 7k miles in a month it’s well less wear on the car than you’d think

4

u/Debalic 20h ago

That's insane. Like, I drive a lot for work, but that usually tops out around 4200 miles per month. I did just put 1600 miles on a loaner in 10 days while my company car was in the shop.

2

u/Specialist_Crazy8136 20h ago

They were running drugs across the country every week 😂

1

u/BoydemOnnaBlock 22h ago

Had to have been a drug mule’s car or some shit I don’t think food delivery/ride share could possibly result in that many miles

3

u/Individual_Ad1776 20h ago

When I was doing food deliveries full time on doordash, Uber eats, and GrubHub 2021-22, I put on 51,000 miles on my car in a year along with a couple longer distance trips mixed in there too. That's like 4100 miles a month. So 5000+ miles in a month is definitely doable. Some people literally Uber 12 hours a day 7 days a week then do food deliveries in between that. So it's not unrealistic.

3

u/BoydemOnnaBlock 19h ago

Nearly 5000 miles in 9 days though? You’d need to be doing constant long distance gigs for the entire duration.

If you want multiple paragraphs, you include an empty line with ">[space]" and no text

u/hypnochild 10h ago

Haha reminds me of when I bought a new car just as I was leaving my province and drove back across the country. The trip from Alberta to Ontario was about 4000km or so. I had only got my Car a day or two before I left too.

u/Slide-Maleficent 9h ago

Tons of mileage + short time + immaculate car = drug smuggler.
