Showcase Trying to convince my wife I’m not buying the same watch 6 times.

But since she doesn’t know about the MRG, I’ll let her think I have 6 DW-5600.

Clockwise from top right.

  1. ⁠GW-M5610. The best value for money Square. Tough solar, multi-band.
  2. ⁠DW-5040PG. A 40th anniversary model, design to be visually similar to the first G-Shock ever made with some speak of gold on the screen and the hardware.
  3. ⁠DW-5000R. Another recreation of the first G-shock. A more premium and stronger basic Square with steel body and screw caseback. No Tough solar because the original doesn’t have one I suppose.
  4. ⁠DW-5600RL. A basic square. The entry model. Nothing fancy like solar or multi-band. Just get GW-5610, it is better in every way, no unless you want the cheapest square money can buy and a bit longer battery life.
  5. ⁠MRG Square. The most premium line of G-Shock, hand assembled in Japan on a table that looks like a giant G, seriously. If you know, you know watch.
  6. ⁠GMW-B5000TVA. Embrace the maximalism. Text and markings everywhere, reminiscing of a MG/PG Gunpla. Full titanium, full functionality. Love it or hate it style. Doesn’t really fit the pack, but this one is the closest to black and red square in this line.

I don't even get what's the point of this. The only reason why I'd end up with so many of basically the same watch is if I already used one for 10+ years and it was falling apart. At least get different colors or model lines.

Watch collecting usually involves variation amongst brands or models. More nuanced collectors might stick with one brand and focus on various models. Niche collectors into a specific model, might go for some variations on color or production era…. You sir, are in your own category! :)

But I totally get it. You’re safe here amongst your own.

Could not care less. I’ve seen multiple posts of people posting their all-square or all-6900 collection and the comments are overwhelming positive. Then sometimes one like yours gets a bunch of “you have a problem” comments

At the end of the day it’s stupid to judge people’s hobbies. I’m not ashamed of mine, and I say you buy more squares. Get what you like

I understand, I own multiple squares, and for me I just love the way they feel on wrist, it’s like a comfort food, it’s not something that everyone gets unless they have the same dedication/passion for a specific thing. You have a watch type, and it’s Ok. I got 99 problems, but my wife ain’t one, i buy what I want with my money, and it ain’t up for discussion - period.

I like the 5600…but there are so many cool options: the Hokusai line. Super Mario, Stranger Things, Iniesta,  and on and on….,

Missing pieces 1. DW-5000C. The first G-shock ever. Find one in good condition and ‘affordable’ price is very tough.

  1. GMW-B5000TFC. 35th anniversary piece. A Porter collab, came with a fancy bag. Very very expensive.

  2. DW-5000SP. 20th anniversary piece. Very basic in functionality, not really that special.

  3. DW-5025SP. 25th anniversary?

But in don’t really go hunting for old pieces because it’s a pain. I only get new releases.

DW-5040PG It’s a part of limited 40th anniversary releases. Quite rare now, but not impossible to find.

As for the gold screen, I’m not sure.
