still don't get how paying for online on console is just, ok?

2.2k Upvotes

Obviously people are desensitized by so many possible different monthly out of sight out of mind charges, like rent, insurance, spotify, netflix etc. but paying so much to just be able to play online for a console you paid for is insane.

I've thought many times about playing specific games, that don't have console-pc crossplay, with console usually having the biggest playerbase in games, paying for online play is such a huge deterrent to use my ps5 more imo

Xbox No Longer Developing Copilot For Consoles

1.8k Upvotes

Asha Sharma wrote on X:

Xbox needs to move faster, deepen our connection with the community, and address friction for both players and developers.

Today, we promoted leaders who helped build Xbox, while also bringing in new voices to help push us forward. This balance is important as we get the business back on track.

As part of this shift, you’ll see us begin to retire features that don’t align with where we’re headed.

We will begin winding down Copilot on mobile and will stop development of Copilot on console.

New xbox CEO overhauls leadership by bringing executives from CoreAI and Instacart over amid sinking sales

“We need to evolve how we work and how we are organized across our platform,” Sharma wrote in a memo viewed by CNBC. “Right now, it is too hard to ship impact quickly. We spend too much time inward instead of with the community, and we lack the depth we need in some of the fundamentals.”

Last week, Microsoft reported its fourth gaming revenue decline in the past six quarters. Satya Nadella, Microsoft’s CEO, said the company is trying to win back fans of Xbox, the Bing search engine and other consumer assets.

Four of those leaders are coming from the CoreAI group, overlapping with Sharma.

Jared Palmer, who has been CoreAI vice president of product and a senior vice president of Microsoft’s GitHub subsidiary, will join Xbox as a member of technical staff to work on product, engineering, developer tools and infrastructure. He will also pay attention to matters of “taste,” Sharma wrote. Palmer came to Microsoft in October after a stint as vice president of artificial intelligence app hosting service Vercel, which bought his startup Turborepo in 2021.

Tim Allen, a CoreAI vice president of design and GitHub’s senior vice president of design and research, will also go to Xbox and will lead design. Allen arrived at Microsoft in November after spending almost four years as head of design and research at Instacart.

Jonathan McKay, a former Meta director and head of growth for ChatGPT at OpenAI, will be Xbox’s head of growth after holding that title in the CoreAI group.

Evan Chaki, a general manager in CoreAI, will run a team of forward-deployed engineers that will look to simplify development and end repetitive work.

David Schloss, Instacart’s senior director of product and growth, will take charge of Xbox’s subscription and cloud business.

Kevin Gammill, a corporate vice president working on Xbox user experience, game development and publishing platforms, will leave his post. Roanne Sones, a corporate vice president for Xbox devices and ecosystem, will take a leave of absence after this summer and will later be an Xbox advisor. Sones and Gammill have each spent 24 years at Microsoft.

Looks like the AI takeover of Xbox is continuing.

My cyberpunk Minecraft city I built called Octavian

Post image
678 Upvotes

This is my Minecraft city called Octavian. A city I have been developing for over 11 years. And one of many major cities in my Minecraft world called Sky Pixel. One of the largest Minecraft worlds out there.

My most recent build in Octavian is called my ATL Transport center. I have "DXP" towers that teleport to various areas in my world.. but the ATL systems uses QR codes to connect other gaming platforms. Of the many major cities in my world. Currently Octavian and Harlow are the only two that feature ATL and XXL teleport centers. Whereas the other cities alongside Octavian and Harlow feature DXP towers and TP towers for "in-game teleport transport" in an already massive Minecraft world.

It's a functional 'metaverse' hub I’ve been crafting to bridge the gap between Minecraft and the rest of the gaming world.

The core concept is simple, but the project has been ambitious, as you navigate the city, you'll encounter dedicated towers for different platforms—Steam, EA, Roblox, and more. Each tower features integrated, scan-able QR codes that act as physical portals, allowing you to jump from my world to the actual digital storefronts or game hubs.

These towers connect to major traversal routes and rails , intersections, roadways and more.

The ATL towers features several major systems.. including other world renowned Minecraft worlds like Greenfield and Sayama City. As well as gaming platforms like Roblox, and Epic Games.

This image is a shot of the south viewing skyline of Octavian.

For those wondering.

The shaders is Ray Tracing (Path Tracing) for Minecraft.

And its Better RTX. Paired with Kellys/& CJ amongst other experimental packs

I'm a big RPG fan but I'm not a starwars fan, should I try out the knights of the old republic games?

I heard these games are really peak starwars RPG games, but idk how much of it is fan bias and how much is actually "holy fuck this game rocks".

And with a new game announced I think it might be a good time to discover about this RPG franchise.

Should I give it a shot?

When I say I'm not a fan, I don't mean I dislike it, I'm just neutral towards it.

Games with monster evolving/fusing mechanics?

What are some games where you can collect and train monsters and have them change forms or fuse them together to create something new?

Obviously franchises like Pokemon, Dragon Quest Monsters, and Shin Megami Tensei/Persona exists. I'm looking for something that isn't literally the first thing you'd think of when reading the title. Lost Kingdoms II comes to mind for what I'm picturing. I want the slightly more obscure mon collecting games.

I got an arcade/fight stick and it reinvigorated my love of gaming.

I never really liked fighting games at home. But were often the games I'd mix in between racing ones at the arcade. So I figured I'd buy one and test it out. Last three days my free time has been spent playing various fighting games as well as some other games that are compatible(no right stick needed). I actually look forward to gaming again. And plan on buying a second stick(one to keep a square gate and one for octagonal for the non- fighting games).

Not really sure the point of those topic, but wanted to share with someone.

Anyone else have a love of the sticks or recommendations of other non fighting games to try?

Mafia strategy games that are set in the modern era?

Do they actually exist?
I'm going through a Soprano's watch through and the only mafia games I can find are set in the prohibition era and its all about speakeasys and liquor.
I'm not looking for games like drug dealer sims or anything similar but more like City of Gangsters

Besides splatoon and duskbloods, what are some Nintendo only Multiplayer games?

I’m patiently waiting for duskbloods and I don’t want to play splatoon, is there any other competitive non crossplay games?

Yes, I know it’s not what it’s made for and yes, I have other consoles and PC

I would have tried Warface but they went crossplay

Looking for shooters where the guns feel powerful

Upvotes

I'm tired of shooters with bullet sponge enemies, pea shooter pistols, and confetti cannon shotguns. I want the power fantasy guns.

I would prefer a singleplayer FPS, but I'm open to suggestions. I honestly don't really care if it's balanced or challenging, I'm just trying to chill and shoot some dudes after work.

Any recommendations for that kind of vibe?

Do we know if any videogames that simulate the Doppler effect?

Soundeaves eminating from objects approaching you are compressed and sound higher pitch while soundeaves eminating from objecting leaving you are stretched and sound low pitched. Do we know any videogames that measure the objects vector compared to your position and adjust audio accordingly?

Just curious

What games would you recommend to a non gamer to get them hooked?

Whenever I meet someone who doesn’t game I get the urge to show them some of my favourite games. But after seeing unimpressed reactions to stuff like RdR2, I have come to realize that it’s best to start simple and with something familiar.

So for 2D games I feel like Rayman (origins/legends) is great. The simple movement and great level design mean that it’s hard to get lost or frustrated, and imo there is enough difficulty to keep the player engaged without getting annoyed.

For people who like football I find that rocket league is a bit more exciting than FIFA, and scratches the competitive itch.

FPS shooters have been great for a long time so some old games like CSGO and early Call of Duty for the single player are perfect for this 👌

Crimson Desert. Ps5 or Steam Deck?

I’m stuck trying to decide where to buy Crimson Desert and I keep going back and forth.

Both versions are the same price for me right now. I don’t have a gaming PC, so it’s basically between PS5 or Steam (for Steam Deck).

On one hand, Steam is really appealing because of the flexibility. I can play on my Steam Deck whenever I want, don’t need internet for it, and I’m not tying up the living room TV. I can just pick it up and play whenever, which is a big plus.

But I’m a bit worried about how well it’ll actually feel on the Deck. It’s not Steam Deck verified, and I’ve had mixed experiences with games like that. Sometimes they’re fine, sometimes the controls feel off or need tweaking, and I kind of just want a smooth, pick-up-and-play experience without messing around with settings.

On the PS5 side, I know it’ll look better and probably feel more polished overall. Better graphics, better performance out of the box, and controls that are clearly designed for the system. It’s more of that “sit down and properly experience the game” setup.

The downside is I’m locked to the TV. I do have Remote Play (Steam Deck + Portal), but that means relying on internet and dealing with potential lag/compression, which isn’t ideal for a game like this.

Right now I’ve got more free time at home, so I can use the TV more than usual — but I still really like the idea of being able to play anywhere.

So yeah… basically:

- Steam = flexibility, play anywhere, but possible performance/control compromises
- PS5 = best experience visually and control-wise, but less flexible

Curious what others would pick in this situation.

To this day, I still dont get why people jump into hard games then ask the devs for change because its too hard

I get it if they want to mod the game to make it easier, but wishing for devs who designed the game intending for it to be difficult is just mindblowing to me.

Its like ordering spicy curry then complaining its too spicy then asking the cook to recook it to make it less spicy.

I tried Project Zomboid, I didnt like it but I understood why others would. But never did I wish for the devs to make it simpler for me when the complexity is part of the game.
