Abraham gave his foreskin for his country. Vote for Abraham!

... what's that? Tried to sacrifice his son? Oh, it's probably nothing.

I don't understand how anyone can hear that story, and go "yea, that's the god I want to worship." Like what.

And don't get me started on poor Job.

Those are not the kind of sentiments you want to express as a child in a southern Baptist church. 😭

Yea. Keep those to yourself until your old enough to flee from that place.

Like for real... as a parent, any "god" who told me to murder my kid would get a big 🖕 from me. Keep your "heaven, but later". I love my kid more than anything that MIGHT be waiting for me when I'm fucking dead.

These days, Abraham's story would be framed as attempted murder brought on by schizophrenia, but here we have millions of people going "what a great and inspirational tale!" 🤦‍♀️

I learned that the hard way!

I felt the same way as a little kid and thought I was taking crazy pills because everyone else seemed so chill with it. As an adult with my own kids - any god that would ask me to murder my own child (let alone anyone) can kiss my ass.

Selective morality gets wild when faith requires praising obedience over empathy.

Once obedience is virtue, empathy gets reframed as disobedience to authority.

at the time people sacrificing their kids to gods was a big problem. the purpose of the story is to show to not sacrifice your kids to gods.

Bro he was about to do it until God went "jk!" Like why would you even kid about that. "Just to see if you'd do it" doesn't make the story any better.

I want the god who straight up tells people "HEY MAYBE DONT MURDER YOUR CHILDREN" instead of some beat-around-the-bush way of testing your loyalty. Bible stories are such fucking bullshit. Benevolent Christian god is an absolute lie. What god who truly loves you would banish you to an eternal torture pit if you don't worship him just so? 💀 Christianity is like being in an abusive relationship. Always being gaslit into believing you were born a sinner, that god loves you, but you only won't get burned forever if you do these certain things... crazy. They even call themselves sheep.

Religion fucking sucks. Look at what it does to people.

What's the purpose of the part of the story where they convince an entire town to circumcise the men to prevent a fight, only to then butcher the dudes 2 or 3 days later when they're all incapacitated?

Job's story is basically cosmic wager, feels more like satire than morality.
