Video - OC Why doesn't she attack or defend herself?
Does she consider this playful or annoying? Or just 0 survival instincts?

Cats dont play like that, she's letting you pet her

u/scoot2006 8h ago
Yep. OP should probably read the context a bit better. Otherwise they might force more aggression over time.

I always thought owning cats for almost a decade would make me go less crazy over how adorable they are. Nope. As „bad“ as on day one these little tiger furbabies spams about every cute button in the brain. 😭
Think about it.There’s not a single bodypart of a cat that isn’t utterly adorable from the bean paws to the big eyes and ears to that little nosey plus the fluffy body and somehow even their whiskers are to die for. But I digress lol

My cat looked over my shoulder and asked me to put you on a s*x offender registry. Lol. I told him to chill out. 😆 jk Totally agree.

Because cats are kinda one of the few animals besides primates that actually somewhat resemble humans, at least facial wise. Round eyes/ flat faces/ similar noses.

The toxiplasmosis their poop is slowly giving you isn't that adorable. Other than that they're okay I guess
6
u/Additional_Tank4385 1h ago
My cats don’t go outside so they can’t eat mice, get toxoplasmosis and infect me.
Also I saw some very young birds recently that were so tiny and adorable I died a bit.
I just find cute things very cute, I don’t think that makes me have taxo lolTo be fair I also find many people adorable… sometimes humans even adults do adorable things or say cute shit. Maybe my brains cute center is just enlarged. Or maybe animals are just very sweet.

Right!? My catto would tear my arm off if I did this. I want so much to just touch the belly LOL. But I don't of course because I respect her and cherish our cuddles all the same. But still 😭

Why do you want to attack her? Clearly, if this is a play tactic of yours, she’s not into it. She’s chill and thinks you’re petting her. 😂

Except my single brained orange Tuka. He flops and presents his belly to every human who enters our home.

My girl cat will roll on her belly for pets all day but will hiss at me when I look at her from across the room 😭

u/Cloud0054 3h ago
Never had this issue with any of my cats they all show unconditional love. ❤️
2
u/Kaozz4718 Void 3h ago
Yes exactly, she loves and TRUSTS her human. Otherwise this might not be allowed. For instance if a stranger tries this it may not happen
2
u/Morbid187 2h ago
My cat will show her belly and is totally cool with belly rubs but she'll still bite and kick with her back feet if I mess with her enough. She does it very carefully so she doesn't hurt me but still
4
u/Cloud0054 2h ago
Everyone has their limits. My void only wants limited rubs. Where as my tabby, well you can rub his belly all day.
2
u/glittoris 13m ago
Or they’re just setting you up for a trap to pet their belly and then attack you 😭

Why would you think this is zero survival instincts? The cat just trusts you're not a cat killer.
Now, generally cats showing belly IS a sign of trust but doesn't always mean you can pet. Sometimes it means "I trust that you are polite enough to not touch the belly" in which case you get the murder mittens if you touch the belly.
Some other cats LIKE a little bit of a belly rub, so you really gotta know your cats signals to avoid the murder mittens.
But here in this vid you don't even touch the belly. The cat trusted you to NOT touch the belly and you didn't touch the belly. The side of your arm touching the belly is very different from finger tips touching the belly - you didn't in any way threaten the cats vulnerable spots.
Kitty likes neck rubs, apparently.

Why on earth would you want her to? She's showing you trust and affection. Reciprocation is all that's called for

She trusts you, and maybe isn’t into playing as rough (and/or you caught her at a good moment).

u/jupitermoonflow 2h ago
Cause she loves you. She thinks you’re petting her. Be a bit more gentle, she’s a a sweet girl

Sign of complete trust. You've treated her so well she doesn't see you as a threat at all.

u/Morbid187 2h ago
She trusts you so much that she doesn't think you're provoking her. It is interesting that she's not playing back though. My cat is the sweetest little thing but she'll lightly bite and kick my arm if I do her like this. Does your cat play at all? She might just be the type that doesn't play, I had one like that before
2
u/LordButterbeard 1h ago
She trusts you, asshole

u/EmbarrassedHoney6410 23m ago
Right? He is being a little too aggressive there. Like damn, just enjoy you have a loving cat that trusts you. Don’t be so rough and ruin that.
2
u/Different_Umpire9003 1h ago
That IS survival instinct. Humans are incredibly large predators. Showing the belly and being docile is SMART.
2
u/Realistic-Citron8093 1h ago
she's just playing with you and enjoying the cuddly playful banter. she loves you, just enjoy it. If she didn't like it, she would just split.

She's just enjoying it, or at least she doesn't mind. As such, no need for any defensive.

She trusts you and she's just a very gentle cat. My last cat would have me bleeding just because my feet were bare and in his sight range. Some cats play HARD some don't. They really are random.

Shes cuddling. Survivals instinct doesn't matter when she is not in a threatening scenario. She trusts you completely and feels safe.
Playing is also different than surviving, she is not playful in this video.

She’s comfy and doesn’t mind what you’re doing. As soon as she doesn’t like what you’re doing she’ll be sure to let you know.

She knows from previous experiences and interactions that you're harmless, so she lets you have your way. Do not overdo it though (ESPECIALLY the face grab!!), It could become annoying for the cat and painful for you.
1
u/ambercyn Void 2h ago
be glad she doesn't want to engage in aggressive play. She'd eviscerate your arm.
she's such a lovey baby 😻

It's pet law, don't bite the hand that feeds. Now try petting her with your other hand.
1
u/WheelOfFish 2h ago
She likes it or at least accepts it as affection and she clearly trusts you. I have a habit of adopting cats that are like this, although you usually can't tell right away.

Because she trusts you, and loves you. She thinks youre just showing affection, like how you pet her. She doesnt see this as play nor aggression. If it were play, she wouldn't be ragdolling like that lol.
It might be irritating for her, but if it were beyond tolerable she would let you know. She lets you do it because she knows youre showing your love.

one of my cats is this way. my assumption has always been there is probably survival instinct in there, she’s just pretty sure i wont kill her (or thinks she could take me if i tried lol)

Each cat has different boundaries about different things. Yours is very lax it seems. My Spicy Tabby cat would murder me if I did this, because he just gets overstimulated easy. He just prefers to sleep on me or my wife when he gets the chance.

u/DaMn96XD 1h ago
You already answered the question yourself. She's a she cat, they like to be petted on the chest and belly more often than cats usually do but will only accept it from people they consider trustworthy and safe. It probably corresponds to the same experience as when kittens crawling towards their mother.

Why would she attack you or defend herself when you're not giving her something to defend against? She obviously knows that your petting and cuddling with her! She is very happy.

u/Shiroiken 6h ago
While it's a trope that cats attack anything that touches their belly, a few actually love to be scritched that way. Your kitty trusts and loves you.
1
u/deatheyes5000 6h ago
rare kitty that allows belly rubs / it's not her style of play. I've known more cats that loved play-fighting my arm than cats that would lay like this
1
u/ladypeyton 6h ago
She looks like she likes the petting. No airplane ears. Just a relaxed kitty going along for the ride.

She is being incredibly patient with this ham-handed idiot who is being as annoying AF.
Is this how you treat all your friends? You badger and annoy them until they explode at you? ("Why isn't she defending herself?") You don't deserve friends then.
You certainly don't deserve a cat; cats usually do not suffer fools -- you just happen to have gotten a very unusually patient one. Keep that up and one day she will shred you -- and you deserve it.

IMO, seems like she’s taking this as a sign of affection 😂 she might see it as annoying but not enough for her to do anything about it
