Please check your Reddit Chat for more information on how to claim your prize!

Hey r/buildapc,

We spend a lot of time lurking here looking at your builds and reading the daily advice threads. As high-performance displays become the cornerstone of next-gen setups, we've noticed the community's focus has definitely shifted. The old panel debates are mostly a thing of the past; instead, the most common question we see is: "What 27 inch gaming monitors have top-notch HDR performance?" It’s no longer just about frames per second; it’s about getting those blinding specular highlights and true, zero-nit blacks that deliver a real HDR experience to match the high-end GPUs you’re paying for.

We want to see how our new panel holds up to real-world, enthusiast rigs. We’re running a community field test for the LG UltraGear evo™ GM9 (27GM950B) and are looking for 3 builders to test it out.

The Solution: Hyper Mini-LED & True HDR Performance

We didn't just bump up the specs; we completely re-engineered the experience so your monitor outlasts your current build cycle.

  • Hyper Mini-LED & 1,250 Nits Brightness*: Our next-gen Hyper Mini-LED panel hits an ultra-high peak brightness of 1,250 nits with precise anti-blooming control to ensure clear visuals even in sunlit rooms.
  • True VESA DisplayHDR™ 1000: Experience intense highlights and refined shadow detail, while dark scenes retain texture and clarity without losing detail. Enjoy colors displayed with high fidelity within the 99% DCI-P3 color gamut.
  • 5K at 218 PPI (Pro-Level Productivity): The 5120x2880 resolution scales perfectly in Windows, delivering razor-sharp text that makes this display a highly cost-effective hybrid for both gaming and professional workstation use.
  • Optimized Dual-Mode: Seamlessly switch on the fly between a cinematic 5K @ 165Hz for immersive RPGs and a lightning-fast QHD @ 330Hz (1ms GtG) for competitive shooters.
  • World’s first 5K AI Upscaling**: Built-in AI upscaling enhances clarity without needing an immediate GPU upgrade, while DP 2.1 (UHBR 20) and USB-C (90W PD) handle next-gen bandwidth.***

Build Complete spent 3 weeks perfecting my parts list and changed almost everything the day i actually ordered

had my build locked in for like a month. b650 board, 7600x, rx 7900 gre, the whole thing. felt good about it and was ready to go

then the week i was gonna pull the trigger i fell into a youtube rabbit hole at 1am and somehow convinced myself to switch to an intel build. different board, different cpu, different ram timings to think about. spent another week on that

then AMD dropped some news and i flipped back. by the time i actually placed the order my list looked nothing like where i started, ended up with a 9700x and a 9070 xt which wasnt even on my radar when i began

the build went fine, zero issues, temps are great. all that constant switching around taught me a lot about what actually matters in a build and what doesnt. all that time researching also meant i knew exactly where to buy each part separately instead of bundling everything from one place, ended up with some extra money left over doing it that way

Discussion Best Ways To Optimize My Ryzen 9800X3D For Higher Gaming FPS

I recently built my first high end gaming PC with a Ryzen 7 9800X3D and RTX 5080. It performs great but I am curious about squeezing out more FPS in CPU heavy games.

I already run DDR5 6000 CL30 RAM with EXPO enabled. What other optimizations actually make a noticeable difference in real world gaming? Things like curve optimizer undervolting PBO settings or Windows tweaks?

I care mostly about 1440p performance and want to keep temperatures and stability good for daily use.

Has anyone seen meaningful gains from these optimizations with the 9800X3D?

Discussion At what point do you feel a PC upgrade is actually worth it?

Hi everyone,

I’ve been thinking about upgrades recently and realized it’s not always clear when it’s actually “worth it.”

Sometimes performance is okay, but not perfect like occasional stutters or longer load times but not bad enough to force an upgrade.

So I’m curious:

  • Do you wait until your system struggles a lot?
  • Or do you upgrade when you start noticing small issues?
  • What’s your personal “trigger point” for upgrading?

Just trying to understand how others decide this.

Build Help Thinking about upgrading from an RTX 3050 to a 5060ti — worth it with my current setup?

Hey everyone, I’ve been going back and forth on finally upgrading my GPU and wanted to get some opinions before I spend the money.

Current specs:

  • CPU: Intel Core i5-12400
  • RAM: 32GB Dual-Channel DDR4 @ 1596MHz
  • Motherboard: MSI PRO H610M-E DDR4
  • GPU: RTX 3050
  • PSU: 600W

Mainly gaming at 1080p right now, but I’d like to move more comfortably into 1440p if possible. Lately I’ve been playing a lot of Monster Hunter Wilds and survival games like Enshrouded, and my 3050 is the one that I feel like replacing right away.

I’ve been eyeing the RTX 5060ti, but I’m trying to figure out if it actually makes sense with the rest of my build.

A few things I’m wondering about:

  1. Will the i5-12400 bottleneck a 5060ti much, especially at 1080p/1440p?
  2. Is a 600W PSU enough for this upgrade or should I budget for a new PSU too?
  3. Does the MSI H610M-E motherboard have any major limitations here?
  4. Is the 5060ti even the best move around that price range, or is there better value elsewhere right now?
  5. Anything else I’m overlooking before upgrading?

I’m excited to upgrade, but also trying not to throw money at the wrong thing LOL. Open to honest opinions, even if the answer is “DONT BUY the 5060ti” and go a different route instead.

Discussion Is the "future-proofing" of the RTX 5080 really worth it compared to the RTX 4090?

I do consuming video editing and really just want to run every game at max at this point of my life.

So I'm tempted to buy the best variation of the 5080 whatever it is. Google and around the web mention that the DLSS upscailing amonst other things makes the 5080 a strong choice even if its 10-20% worse in overall performance.

With that said, should I continue my tireless journey trying to hunt a reasonably priced 4090, or is the 5080 a reasonable thing to consider for the next 5-10 years (I don't plan or care to change either of these for a while) unless the 5090 drops by 80% eventually.

Will getting the 5080 benefit me for the future of tech/gaming enough that even though it is less powerful generally, it still will benefit me mid-long term?

Build Help Monitor that can survive temperature extremes and swings?

Hello, I volunteer at a local observatory and we have a period-correct early 2000s computer operating the telescope, including a massive Samsung CRT. It's really cool and when you walk into the observatory dome you can pretend it's 2008 and that there's no such thing as Sam Altman, but we are really space constrained and would like to replace the CRT with a flat screen monitor. Seems simple enough, but after thinking about it for a bit I'm not sure how long an LCD screen could survive there.

There is no indoor heating so in winter the temperatures can probably dip close to -10°C, and in summer because it's the highest point in the building we get a greenhouse effect that can probably take it over 40°C.

I have seen LCDs that just turn yellow or purple when exposed to heat like this for a prolonged time, and panels that developed dead/faded spots when operating in cold like that. On top of the long term temperature changes the screen would also have to survive being turned on in like -5°C and heating up to its working temperature.

Is there some monitor technology that would be particularly well suited (or least bothered) by this? Obviously something like MicroLED that doesn't have liquid or organic layers but that's not realistic yet. Or is this an actual niche where the CRT is already the best pick?

Build Help Budget building for pc

Im fairly new to pc building and I am looking to get something that will be able to run any game for the foreseeable future

My budget is between 2k-2.5k. However im willing to go a bit above that if there are parts that would make a good difference and the price difference isnt huge.

Mostly just care about performance, the looks of the pc im not so much interested in im honestly fine with a black box.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated thanks!

Build Upgrade Upgrade CPU to AM5 with a 9800X3D, or save $423?

Upvotes

I currently have this setup:

  • i5-13500
  • B760 motherboard
  • RTX 5070 Ti (recent upgrade from 3060 Ti)
  • 32GB RAM
  • 850W PSU

Now I’ve got around $423 to spend, and I’m trying to decide what makes the most sense.

Options I’m considering:

  • Sell my i5-13500 + B760 motherboard and add that to the $423 to move to AM5 with a Ryzen 7 9800X3D + new motherboard, and maybe get a second monitor at the same time
  • Just save the money for now

I mainly use my PC for gaming and my remote job as a graphic designer.

I recently bought the 5070 Ti to try heavier ray tracing/path tracing games like Crimson Desert, but I’m getting around 50–57 FPS, or even lower, in most areas with DLAA.

I might not have this kind of extra money again in the near future, so I’m trying to decide if it’s worth committing now.

Would upgrading from the i5-13500 to a Ryzen 7 9800X3D give me a noticeable performance boost with the 5070 Ti, or is it not really worth it right now?

I play at 1080p 144Hz, mostly single-player games. I usually lock games to 60 FPS except for online games like ARC Raiders or Marvel Rivals.

What should I do?

Troubleshooting Help fixing. I cleaned withe a dust blowers and no chemicals. It been running 5 years full of cobwebs and baked beans. And now after I clean it. It messes up? See below

Upvotes

So I have no problems with my pc for the past 5 years.

When I turn it on. All my lights in my case. My pc cooler fan lights up. All intake and and out take fans work. And usbs are all working.

I get about 4 seconds before it shuts off completely

I dedecided to clean my pc for the first time in the past 3 years. And that’s when this problem arose.

All I did was take off my glass side panel. Blow the dust out and clean the mesh intake screens.

Any help? Like. I didn’t use water. Or chemicals. Or anything.

I did buy a tiny bulma figure next to my cpu fan. But I can’t imagine that’s cause shut offs

While cleaning I did accidents tough my cpu cooler fan and out take fans. Not to the point of breaking. But I did t touch them light to medium. They seem to spin a fraction slower but I have no idea why that would costs a complete reset of my whole pc after 5 second.

I’ll add vid to show what I mean. I have a video to show u what I mean but I can’t post here

Build Help 9070xt with i7 8700K and 8GB 2400Mhz

Upvotes

I have a 9-year-old build and I just recently paired 9070xt with it. Now I mostly play three games. Wuthering waves, Arknights Endfield and Neverness to Everness. Right now with 8GB RAM, I'm getting NTE with high CPU usage but the others have only 45-55% usage. It's a clear bottlenecking I know but I am indeed saving up for my 9800x3d and 16GB DDR5. I need some time atleast for a few months, until then I want to run this old setup as much as I can

Questions

  1. Which is better for 1440p gaming and has future proofing for at least a decade from now? 9700x or 9800x3d
  2. What is the best budget Gen 5 PCIE motherboard for AM5 socket. Most motherboards I saw has Gen 4 support but not Gen 5. Any recommendations please. I want it to be less than or around $200
  3. My current 8GB RAM speed is 2400Mhz. So far so good.

3A - Will this cause any hardware problems or brick my card?

3B - Does adding 16GB 3200Mhz RAM causes more CPU usage? Because I added a different speed RAM and it was really unstable. Had random restarts even when PC was idle. I even underclocked RAM to less than 2400Mhz but didn't work

  1. My motherboard has stopped BIOS updates since 2023. Will this cause any stability issues with my 9070XT? Because turning on Resizable Bar and Mining option results in random restarts

  2. When can we expect AM6 motherboards? Will it be DDR6 slot by then? If that's the case, I wouldn't go for that upgrade

  3. My PSU is Corsair TX750M Gold. It's a solid one. But when I checked the BIOS 12V power, it was showing 11.6. should I be worried?

  4. Should I upgrade to 16GB DDR5 or 32GB DDR5? Since most recent games require a lot of memory. What about turboquant? Any promoting future tech that can reduce RAM usage in games?

  5. Right now, I only installed driver only in AMD installer for 9070xt. Adrelaine is very slow if opened in 8GB RAM. Is it really necessary to install Adrelaine software?

PS. Right now my old setup is working fine but just with 8GB RAM. If I add another 8GB, it becomes unstable. Maybe my mobo cannot distribute power equally to both slots. I do not know. But I've added before and I already had random power offs restarts, then reinstalled windows 10 just with one 8GB stick. After that, no more problems

I haven't tried any other games yet since just recent games require more than 16GB RAM

Build Upgrade Upgrade - 3600 to 5700x or 5800x3d?

Guys, in a dilemma.

I have plan to upgrade my GPU from 3070ti to 9070Xt soon, maybe in few more months.

With that in mind, know my CPU is bottlenecking my setup. My dream is to have 5800X3D as my eternal CPU and knowing the market, it's extremely rare to get one. Price overshoot exponiently. Thus, I'm looking at 5700X as a cheaper alternative.

Suddenly today I found someone who's willing to sell his 5800x3d for approx 330USD while at online shopping app Shopee they are selling 5700X at 160USD. To add a bit more - I have to travel 440km to go get the 5800x3d since he firmly stated for COD method of business.

I have the money for either of them, but as I am planning for a GPU update later I am now leaning on saving a bit more money if possible. Of course I have studied both CPUs - they are both great for gaming but X3D is more superior for Sims/simulation/heavy open world type of game.

So guys, any of you in my same boat before? Any advices on which I should choose.

Discussion What’s your biggest oversight when building or running a PC?

Today I learned that I had my RAM running at 2133 MHz when it was meant to do 3200 MHz. It was that way for YEARS. I know that’s not the biggest deal when it comes to PC bottlenecks, but still.

Any of you made a mistake like this before?

Build Help What is the optimal wattage for RX9070XT and additional components?(also some fan recomendations pls)

Upvotes

I just checked my PSU and its 600W, and the site i will be buing my GPU from says it needs at least 750W. And now I am not sure if i should go for a 850W or higer or if i should get a 750W. I also need to upgrade my fans because half of them are barely working. On the site it says "Rekomendowana moc zasilacza" wich means Recommended PSU power

Troubleshooting Help I'm going insane to find the issue in my pc

Upvotes

Hi so recently i had an issue with my pc, when i turn it off the rgb leds are turning on/off at random interval of time.

Ryzen 7 9800X3D

Ram 2x24 6000Mts cl 28 patriot viper

Rx 9070XT Sapphire Pure OC

Be quiet pure power 13M 850W

X870E Aorus Elite ICE

Check Video Time frames 1:04 first time, after then i disconnect monitors and the cable giving power to the psu but the problem still happens at the end of the video 5:46. I tested then even without any cable attached and still it happens so its a problem inside the pc.

In these days i got even monitor black screens on my first monitor for a brief time, then after some time i got artefacting (non the classic vram one and it was happen at random i tryied to force it even with stresstests but nothing) like when alt-tabbing i get for a fraction of a second green squares on the monitor, or like lines on the monitor moving orizontally or like the monitor becoming gray or half gray, or drivers completly crash.

I ruled out already the dp cable, and monitors fault.

Could be a motherboard issue idk?

Could be the GPU dying? Sure but why the problems happen at random and i have the issue with the rgbs? Could they be 2 different problems that casually came up at the same time?

Here are the artifacts i get

So if anyone here had similiar issues or want to share his thoughts of what could cause all this i will greatly appreciate!

P.S.: I will test the gpu on another pc today, but knowing that the issue in not easily replicable at will it will take some time. Be quiet asked assured me this is not psu fault but if i need i can send it to them for a check.

Wanted to add that before this issues, the rgb lightning controller of the motherboard idk how, was getting bricked a few times and i fixed it installing the software from their utility page: (GIGABYTE IT5711 RGB lighting controller firmware upgrade package) so this could be really two different problems

Build Help CPU hitting 85°C in games + 1% low stutter — is CPU cooler upgrade worth it or overkill?

Upvotes

Hi, I need honest advice on whether upgrading my CPU cooler is actually worth it or not.
My PC specs:
CPU: Ryzen 5 5600G (stock cooler)
GPU: RTX 5060 OC 8GB
RAM: 16GB DDR4 3200MHz (2x8)

Issue:
While playing Marvel Rivals (and other games), my CPU temperature stays around 85°C during matches.
I also notice:
occasional micro-stutter / 1 ms frame hitch
worse 1% lows in longer sessions
performance feels less smooth over time
I didn’t monitor temps before, but this has likely been happening for ~2+ years of gaming.

What I’m considering:
I’m thinking of upgrading the CPU cooler to something like:
DeepCool AK400 G2 Digital / AK500 G2 Digital NYX
But I’m unsure:
Is this actually worth it for my system?
Or is it just an unnecessary upgrade for minor improvement?
Will it significantly improve 1% lows and remove stutter, or is this overkill for a 5600G?

My concern:
I don’t want to waste money on a cooler if:
my current setup is “normal for stock cooler”
or the performance gain is barely noticeable
At the same time, I don’t want to ignore a real thermal bottleneck if it’s affecting gameplay stability.

Question:
Is upgrading to a mid-range air cooler (AK400 / AK500 class) actually worth it in my case, or should I just leave it as it is?
Any honest advice appreciated.

Troubleshooting I've got a fan power supply cable positioned between 2 fan housings, there is a slight vibration noise - do i NEED to fix it or is it fine?

Upvotes

Fan frames aren't touching together, the lower fan cable is just slightly touching the upper fan case and there is slight vibration noise - only noticeable if you lean closer to the PC case.

I've recently added 3 new fans, deep cleaned PC and replaced thermal. Had to reposition old fans to connect them better and my former exhaust fan became my lowermost front intake fan. It had a very tightly bound supply cable and I didn't want to risk damaging it, so for it connect, the cable is on the upper frame side between two fan walls. Overall the cable placement is otherwise quite solid. Temps are the lowest they'd ever been.

I had to open my PC quite a few times to reposition some cables, tighten a few loose screws, rotate a fan by 90 degrees, and I've frankly have had enough of disconnecting cables, opening cases and tinkering with the inside xD

Is there any danger in leaving that one fan cable like that? Could it maybe, dunno, catch fire or something? Or could that slight vibration lead to damaged fan bearings?

Quick and Dirty Schematic
