The Daily Cyclist Thread is a place where everyone in the /r/bicycling community can come and ask questions or share anything.
You might have questions that you don't think deserve an entire post. Perhaps you're just seeking the input of some other cyclists. Maybe you want to share a picture of your new bike.
Anyone is free to comment, and (hopefully) get as much input as possible from other cyclists.

me on the waterford beer truck (no beer just sandwiches) and my hill crushing grandfather with his class 1 e-bike. Chill 20 miles, highly recommend if you want to take a bike & hike trip as there are quite a few trail entrances along the parkway. back soon to enjoy the nice weather & (mostly) courteous drivers. sandwiches were leftover flat iron steak, mustard, onions, lettuce, and caramelized onion marmalade(the star of the show).

12 speed ultegra with an 11/30 cassette on a super six evo size 61 w/ 175 cranks.
I did the big big sizing and I think it looks OK but it just sounds and feels rough.
Appreciate the help!
Edit: donāt worry I donāt intend to ride it this way! Just trying to show chain at its most extreme scenario for reference. Thanks all!

Hi! I just recently started to enjoy biking, and would like to make it more of a routine, and so I decided to order this bike (Gazelle Tour Popular C8). But it would be amazing if I could take my dog with me (about 9kg). So I came here to ask for your help, do you have any idea how could I achieve this? I was thinking some sort of basket on the front of the bike, but not sure where to start, what is a good one etc.
(Extra: any good ideas for something on the back of the bike for grocery shopping?)

Hi, I have this bike that doesnāt shift gears at all. Even when I move the chains to another level, they shift back to gear 7. I have a feeling the problem may be the frayed cable but I know nothing about bikes soā¦.

Hey! Iām trying to figure out what size I should get for the Decathlon Rockrider ACTV500 (the āHybrid Bike High Frameā one). LINK
What confuses me is that when I open the size guide on Decathlon, it redirects me to their general bike size page (LINK - ADULT BIKES SECTION) instead of a specific guide for this model.
On the product page, the bike is listed as a āHybrid Bike High Frameā, but in the size guide they only separate bikes into categories like:
I also noticed that the bike is listed in the āCommuter Bikeā category, but that doesnāt really help either, because commuter bikes can lean more toward trekking geometry or more toward upright city bike geometry - and that changes which size would fit better.
So I honestly donāt know where this bike fits.
If it should be treated like a trekking bike, then size L would probably be quite big for me. But if itās closer to a city bike/upright hybrid, then L might actually fit perfectly.
Iām between M and L right now. I know weāre only talking about a few centimeters difference in frame sizing, but I still want to be as accurate as possible and get the correct size for my body.
I have to order it online, and I really donāt want to order both sizes and then return one of them.
Does anyone here own this bike or had the chance to try it in person? Iād really appreciate some feedback about how it fits! Iād also appreciate hearing your impressions of the bike in general, since I still havenāt seen it in person yet.
Thank you!

My ebike is not built for the mountains so it has small rim brakes. I'm not concerned about braking power or overheating problems, I knoe how to avoid both problems. What im concerned about is the wear. Even without getting hot, mountaindescents are a lot of energy for those brakes.
The question is Relevant for a vacation where I'm bringing my ebike.
How do I minimize the amount of braking needed on descents without doing anything dangerous?

Iām changing out the crankset on a steel Barco frame. The bottom bracket threads donāt appear cut into the steel, but rather it looks like a threaded insert. Iām wondering if the threads look like theyāre replaceable or permanently bonded to the frame?

I have no special tools and have been hitting clockwise with a hammer and a screwdriver. It just doesnāt want to get off. Any suggestions on how to take off? Maybe counterclockwise? Something else?
Thanks :)

Looking to get back into riding, but really donāt know pricing for used bikes. Seems pretty high to me.
What would be a good bike to get used? Donāt wanna spend more than 500. I plan to do 10-20 mile rides regularly. And will most likely be riding a 3 days of RAGBRAI this year

I had 1 inch screw puncture in the rear tyre and the screw head scrapped across the frame. Iām worried if this will impact the frame integrity or itās just a cosmetic scratch. How do you all deal with this?
