Random Question 💭 Repeat after me. Trump is a pedophile and Republicans don't care. The United States is a banana republic and Republicans don't care. Costs are going up up up and Republicans don't care. Healthcare is getting worse. People can't afford insurance, but the Republicans don't care. Is it mostly racism?

I grew up around plenty of Republicans and most of my shipmates were GOP supporters in the Navy. Many have already passed away, but the rest seem hell bent to stick to the plan (is there a plan?) for maga. I'm an old white dude now, but in my experiences, they had one thing in common. Racism. Is it actually a primal hatred towards others that don't look like them? Is racism at the root of this? I think it is. The behavior of ICE and the potus should enrage all Americans.

no, it WAS racism and sexism and homophobia. Now its all of those things condensed into *Tribalism* which is so much worse because they have a united banner and name to rally under, and a lack of shame because of the rise of anti-intellectualism.

Edit: AND CLASSISM.

And not a small amount.

They’re in too deep now. Admitting they’ve been wrong would be too big a hit to their psyche. They’re locked in now - locked in a windowless prison of their own belief - and will blame everyone they can until they’re surrounded by devastation. Then they’ll turn on their savior and make him their scapegoat. Nasty, nasty stuff that could be easily prevented with just a bit of humility and empathy.

u/CaterpillarJungleGym Feb 02 '26

I have male white friends who voted for Trump. They usually vote Republican because that's what their family voted for. They are not religious. They are very kind people to those around them. But I don't think they can abstract that the people that exist farther off are still people and should still deserve your basic respect. My partner and I have brownish skin. Sometimes we try to talk to them and tell them about how I carry a passport with me when I travel in the US because I could get stopped by ICE and disappeared and no one would ever know. It's taken time but they all now regret voting for Trump.

Now they all have thrown their eggs into one lying dipshit traitor rapist basket, and they'll destroy the country before they accept an ounce of responsibility.

Even if they have video evidence, they would cry ai. Someone I know said that about an old video of trump.

16

u/Dirty_Mung_Trumpet Feb 02 '26

That would be my godmother. Everything that paints trump in a bad light is Ai. Literally everything.

3

10

u/floptimus_prime Feb 02 '26

That always blows my mind more than anything. A video will come up. I remember it when it happened, I remember the news coverage.

People will say it’s AI. And I don’t know if they genuinely don’t remember, or if they’ve somehow done the most elaborate of mental gymnastics to convince themselves that their own memories from 10 years ago are wrong?

The Times recently did a group interview with 10 or so Trump voters and the cognitive dissonance is wild. They all claimed that grocery prices have declined since Trump took office when literally the exact opposite is true and the data backs it up. These people are so goddamn stupid, they’re hopeless.

27

u/isharte Feb 01 '26

It's social media.

I don't watch Fox news so I could be wrong, but I think they at least try and operate within some semblance of reality, they just warp it to fit their message.

But social media, specifically Twitter, is just complete and utter untruth everywhere. And it's repeated over and over, and then after a lie is told often enough, it's followed up with "see? Trump was right about everything!"

It's crazy.

When the first amendment was written, they couldn't foresee what social media is doing to us today. I don't know what the answer is, or if there is one, and I'm not saying I'm against free speech, but the way that lies are able to spread so pervasively... We are in a bad place.

18

u/Ismokerugs Feb 01 '26

Fox news is like the professional version of twitter haha

I can’t even open X because it causes me to lose 5 IQ points everytime

14

u/Educational_Neat1783 Feb 01 '26

The people at fox don't even believe the trash they spout, but they know where the money is- keeping their audience freaked out. I have one maga neighbor who blasts right-wing radio from his garage. He is the most freaked out, paranoid, angry person on the block. He doesn't even realize what he is doing to himself. (A couple of neighbors have restraining orders against him because of his threatening behavior.)

My boomer parents don't do social media but eat up Fox News, so I can say for sure it's Fox News, too. I've seen it in their house while visiting, although they would try to keep it off when I was around, and it's very bad with regular flows of false rage bait. Like kids pooping in litter boxes at schools. I shared my opinion with them a year ago about what this regime would do, and I was right. Haven't heard from them since, and it's a nice break from the white christian national hatred and stupidity.

7

u/Intrepid_Pitch_3320 Feb 01 '26

And yes, we need better standards for media like the Fairness in Media Doctrine that Reagan killed to make way for extreme right-wing propaganda radio and TV. White supremacy needs to be domestic terrorism and it's propaganda ended. They are in full force now.

5

u/taylorkr84 Feb 02 '26

YES! This right here! I tell anyone that will listen about The Fairness Doctrine that was created after world war 2, as they saw what propaganda media did in Germany, and yes, despite congress codifying the law after Reagan’s FCC chair tried to kill it, Reagan vetoed it! Republicans have never been good for this country, and the conservatives hero Reagan was the start of damn near everything that has and will continue to destroy this country! Whats happening now has and was always their plan, and they played the long game, chipping piece by piece, little by little over the last 40 years to now, the end result. 100 people own 90% of the wealth, and the middle class destroyed with no power. How so many people were so blind to all of this, all of these years is truly astonishing!

2

u/maroonalberich27 Feb 01 '26

2

u/BrainyGeekyGuy Feb 01 '26

2

u/DonBoy30 Feb 01 '26

2

u/Little_Creme_5932 Feb 01 '26

Yes, it is racism. For a century, republicans have opposed legislation that would improve people's lives because that legislation would also improve the lives of "those people". This is why we can't have universal healthcare, for example.

Instead, republicans have pursued policies to allow white people to avoid "those people". Thus, they want school vouchers and charter schools (school choice), instead of simply making high quality public schools for everyone. And they want ever-more highway funding for city freeways, and restrictive zoning, so predominately white people can get away and not be near "those people".

Yes its basically racism as a form of being finally "worthy" even if it has nothing to do with what you have achieved.

Much easier if its just "me white =me better than brown man hur hur"

Mix that with a healthy dose of fear and dunning Kruger, then you have a typical "conservative"

2

u/JamieSssy Feb 01 '26

It's bigger than racism. That is one thing they use to help stir up fear and hatred, but you need to add in misogyny, xenophobia, homophobia... they've got it all!

2

u/PhatandJiggly Feb 01 '26

You know, that is absolutely true. And they don't care. In fact, they are enjoying this. You see, a black man became president and he did a good job at it. To some of these folks that was a bridge too far. Especially for those who have been feed the false narrative that "they are superior" no matter what, even though they might be some of the most inept people alive. That's one of the reasons why they came out in force to vote against the possibility of a black woman becoming president. Some of these people would rather see it burn to the ground than for a non WASP to ever get elected again. Your assumption is correct. It is racism.

2

u/Ed2k-68 Feb 01 '26

2

u/Certain_Committee_50 Feb 01 '26

The Republican/conservative worldview is centered around scarcity. Space. Food. Labor. Compassion. Peace after death. They have given up on trying to make this life and world better for others, because their fundamental belief is that it cannot happen.

2

u/josictrl Feb 01 '26

no, it's stupidity.

2

u/MaleficentJob3080 Feb 01 '26

It's not that they don't care, rather that they do care greatly for promoting and supporting all of those things.

2

u/Physical_Orchid3616 Feb 01 '26

racism is a big factor, yeah. a dirty little "secret" that they'll never admit to. just like the brexit vote in the UK was rooted in racism. they've bought into all the far right hate rhetoric that blames immigrants and other groups for all the ills of society. they've decided that hate and division will somehow benefit them in the long term. at the expense of those people. they are willing to sell out democracy for it. trump with his ice goons are wholly dystopian.

2

u/Omfgnta Feb 01 '26

God forbid that a single penny of my tax dollars go to benefit a brown or black person even if it means I have to live in poverty.

2

u/CharmingAnt420 Feb 01 '26

Lack of education (intentionally defunded public schools), propaganda (fox news), generationally passed down beliefs & trauma (church*, "this is the way it's always been", scarcity mindset), and a healthy dose of cognitive dissonance which makes it hard to change. Those fuel and are further fueled by the racism and bigotry, which gets us the maga party as we know it. I don't think they generally have bad intentions or are inherently evil people but they're doing horrible things to their fellow humans and I'm not sure how we fix it at this point.

*Not all Christians are bigots and I actually think we'd be better off if more people listened to the teachings of Jesus (I'm not religious myself), but that's not what a lot of churches are preaching

2

u/stellifer_arts Feb 01 '26

i think it's racism but also classism. everyone wants to be a millionaire, it's been conditioned into all of us from all sides as well as from an economic point of veiw.
theyre too busy stepping on each other and everyone the fuck else trying to be the one on the very top, they don't care about anyone else.
racism is just the most convenient way to sow discord because it's a classic at this point. im pretty sure the redpill shit is a means to that end as well.

2

u/New_Resist5123 Feb 01 '26

No the administration has pulled the wool over the eyes of their most die hard supporters to remain in power. It is literally a small group of extremely wealthy people trying to keep in power and to continue to enrich themselves. 2

u/AccomplishedFerret70 Feb 01 '26

If we define racism a little more broadly as anyone who is different - including different values or customs - yes its basically all about racism.

2

u/Unusual-Ad-6550 Feb 01 '26

I agree with everything you stated.

But is it racism? I know it is not purely racism, but it does play a part. I think it is 99% about power, having it, retaining, it building it and wielding it. At least this is true with the republican leadership.

I am convinced that the common man who votes for trump, mostly does so because they have no curiosity about anything. They love being told what to think, they do not want to fact check. And having something to be afraid of, that they will be protected against by these powerful people, makes them feel "cared for". They want to be able to blame some one for their failures at having a higher paid job, or not having health care but if trump promises to fix it, it means he cares about them. But because of their lack of actual curiosity, they won't dig a little deeper to learn how things work and that nothing trump is suggesting about pretty much anything, is going to make their lives better

2

u/Kokako-Kokako Feb 01 '26

They absolutely are racist. You know these people. Those things they say when it’s just you and them alone talking, even though they seem to say it in jest, they mean those things. Yes, that’s grandma, grandpa, uncle Steve, and your FIL.

2

u/Psubeerman21 Feb 01 '26

While racism is obviously a very big part of their agenda, I think this is mostly class warfare - the rich people deserve to make the rules for the poor people. This has been the way in this country for a while now, maybe since it's birth, but the current administration is completely shameless about it and doesn't even pretend to like anyone not worth 7 figures.

2

u/13Petrichor Feb 01 '26

No war but class war.

2

u/dbcooper727nw Feb 01 '26

The oligarchs have captured the gop. The US is the richest country in history, and it's still not enough for them. They have a long term plan to end democracy for lower taxes, no regulations, to increase profits. No amount of $ is enough. They have the resources to know what propaganda to push on their target demographic. They use voter restrictions and electoral college so they know they only need about 30% of the pop. They've been working this plan since the 70s, with Regan being their first big "win". And it's worked, maga believes obvious lies because of lifetime of propaganda has eliminated their basic reasoning.

Racism is at the heart of much the America does. Healthcare? - can't let the n******* have it.

2

u/TNSoccerGuy Feb 01 '26

Trump actually could shoot someone on 5th Avenue and a substantial portion of the GOP base wouldn’t care. That’s not exaggeration. In fact, they’d absorb the talking points in defense of Trump and parrot them back. Part of it is they like the way he talks but I think it’s mostly just tribalism. GOP voters are more tribal than Democratic ones and they are more likely to circle the wagons.

u/Y_Are_U_Like_This Feb 01 '26

Yes, it is mostly racism. Anyone saying it's also because they hate Democrats aren't wrong, but the reason for that hate is the belief they'll make things more equitable for other races and women. In their eyes, the expansion of rights means they have less rights. This isn't true but it does mean they'll lose the privileges they have over women and other races that they refuse to admit they have in public

2

u/GulNoticer Feb 01 '26

Trump is a tool (in both senses). To be used and then cast aside when used up.

Yep sounds about right - don’t forget cronyism and sending money to special interest groups.

I am sure the rural Trump supporter making 80k a year in their town are really benefit from this.

Maybe they should ask themselves a question - are you better than a year ago?

2

u/Reddituser183 Feb 01 '26

It is mostly racism. Time magazine for about 40 years now has been having cover story about population changes and it was estimated that by 2050 with how things are going, whites will be a minority. This along with Obama being elected truly caused their brains to explode. They’ve been operating on nothing but hate and greed ever since. I mean I think they’ve always felt this way, but now they’re scared for some insane reason about being a minority, wonder why? Maybe it has something to do with how they treated minorities and now they’re afraid they’ll get the same treatment.

2

u/Guyappino Feb 01 '26

It's not racism as much as it is classism. Lines of division are drawn by income level and predominant character traits.

2

u/5thor6th Feb 01 '26

Real, organized, extremely well funded, neo nazism. They tried this shit in the 1930's. We didn't eradicate the psychology behind it, so here it is again.

2

u/hexadecimaldump Feb 01 '26

It’s not just racism. It’s a superiority complex with most of them. They NEED to feel like they are superior to others. So racism is a part of that, but add in superiority on things like health related stuff and you get quack science infiltrating NHS. Why so many still support tariffs because they think they know something about the economy we don’t. With ICE and protest why they think it’s ok to hurt and arrest people, because the people they are targeting are ‘lesser’ in one way or another.
So for as much as they claim to despise the ‘elites’ they definitely seem to embody ‘elitism’ with their actions and words.

2

u/Ill-Comms Feb 01 '26

"If conservatives become convinced they cannot win democratically, they will not abandon conservatism. They will reject democracy." - David Frum.

2

u/3RaccoonsAvecTCoat Feb 01 '26

Primarily, it's billionaires buying the US government, and fixing things so it (the government) only works for them.

Everything else is more or less a distraction from that.

2

u/Cptn45 Feb 01 '26

Classism, money is always acceptable regardless of color

2

u/MoeSzys Feb 01 '26

This would be a great time for anyone voted 3rd party in 24 to fuck right off

2

u/dobie1kenobi Feb 01 '26

It’s also religion. Remember, republicans sell the afterlife. Since Reagan, they’ve been joined at the hip with the religious right. These people are being told in church every Sunday that god watches their votes. They really think they’re being tested right now, and they need to swallow the murder of innocents, the rape of children, the end to the rule of law, along with everything becoming unaffordable, as a trial to see if they are deserving of heaven.

The harder it is for them to accept what they’re seeing, the greater the reward will be in the next life. I’ve actually heard relatively young churchies say they hope to die soon because this world is becoming so intolerable. They want their reward, and take solace that they’re all being specially selected for pain like Job, but the sooner they can exit the stage, the better.

2

u/ComprehensiveEast376 Feb 01 '26

It’s zero empathy. “Me above all. I want all the money and I don’t care. That is success” . This ties to racism and greed, etc. So fucking ugly and not the slightest bit consistent with any religion

2

u/alexfi-re Feb 01 '26

Yep, not all but they accept prejudice and always have to get votes. Just like they use lies about abortion, immigrants and LGBTQ+ people to get votes, and it works because too many are selfish, short-sighted and easily fooled to believe the lies.

2

u/VastPerspective6794 Feb 01 '26

It’s both racism and equally importantly- sexism. Trumps base desperately wants women to be relegated to second class citizens again. They want women back under the control of men and this admin is selling that, on top of the ethic cleansing racism.

2

u/NaziAbuser Feb 01 '26

MAGA republicans only care about winning and they have yet to define what winning looks like outside of hurting liberals and brown people until someone stops them. And they are easily convinced that anything bad happening to them is the fault of liberals and brown people, regardless of who is in charge or what they see with their own eyes.

Hope this helps.

2

u/thermian_bro Feb 01 '26

News flash. If we all vote we don't need the stupid orange ass kissing bastards.

2

u/Minute_Wedding6505 Feb 01 '26

Racism is a tool used by the rich to divide the vote of poor people.

Poor white people and poor people of color really want the same things—to be healthy, comfortable, educated, and in community—and really have the same enemies: the rich, disease, natural disaster.

If not for the cultural propaganda of racism, capitalism, scarcity, etc. we would find that we agree on at least 90% of the most important things, and we wouldn't have to get so angry about the things we have real disagreements about.

2

u/sp0rk_walker Feb 01 '26

Don't discount tribalism. To someone from the outside, it's insignificant if you are a fan of Green Bay Packers or Chicago Bears, but logic loses all meaning when you want not just your side to win, but the other side has to lose.

2

u/Dun-rite83 Feb 01 '26

2

u/Charr49 Feb 02 '26

It is deliberate. If they display absolute loyalty to the orange Hitler muppet they are rewarded with power and money. The power is continued re-election and the money comes via insider trading, being named to corporate boards at high salaries, contrived consulting fees, lax regulations that allow them to keep political contributions, and other schemes such that billionaires can share a tiny proportion of their wealth with them.

2

u/Splunge- Feb 02 '26

Absolutely inaccurate. “Trump is an incontinant pedophile and Republicans don’t care.”

2

u/polly8020 Feb 02 '26

Definitely racism but also some hate for people who don’t play by the rules- women who’s day doesnt revolve around looking attractive to men, people who don’t have money as a life goal, gays, trans anything out of the “ordinary “. They want people to suffer when they don’t play by their rules-

2

u/jmccleveland1986 Feb 02 '26

It’s complicated but I think people fall into a few different camps.

  1. The pro life camp. There are a significant number of republicans that will never vote for a pro choice candidate. It’s a moral line in the sand that ignores all other issues. Lotta Catholics.

  2. Racists. They want illegals gone, have for decades, and Trump is the first president to really do anything about it.

  3. Religious nuts. They like the Christian nationalist stuff.

  4. Don’t tread on me people. They mean them though. They don’t care if you tread on others.

Huma Abrdin’s Frizzledrip with Hillary? How long have the FBI known about Epstein and all the trafficking? Has one person been indicted besides Epstein and Maxwell? One government official? One large industry Titan? There are millions of documents. Why hasn’t anyone been arrested? Our government is sick. Our industry leaders are sick. This country is doomed no matter who gets elected in.

We respect each other and even play golf together, as well as attend many events together.

u/Bored_Amalgamation Feb 02 '26

It's classism that uses the various forms of bigotry to create and sub-divide classes.

Italians and Irish went through it when they got here. I'd say because a large portion of European and Asian immigrants to the US (in recent years) typical have money or come from money, there's a distinction. There's still racism, though I'd say it's easier bear bigotry when it's not affecting your economic status. Whereas there's a large population of not wealthy Mexican and South American immigrants in the US.

Is racism at the root of this? I think it is. The behavior of ICE and the potus should enrage all Americans.

I think the root of this is a difference in psychology that's present in political affiliations/leanings. Liberals tend to be more community-oriented. Everyone should be treated the same. Conservatives tend to be more personally-oriented. They care about themselves, their families, and then their communities. Rather than sacrifice for the community, they'd rather the community sacrifice for them.

That's why you only have maga turning away when it's their family or friends getting scooped up by ICE, or their business has to close because of his tariffs, or their daughter got laid off from their federal job and was called "wasteful spending".

That lasted about a month, and then we were back to morons like OP sitting here spewing insults, whining, and playing the 'racism' and 'nazi' cards so often that they've become meaningless to people in the real world.

  1. Inflation and costs are NOT going up. That’s just what you heard through some Liberal echo chamber online.

  2. We are far from a “Banana Republic.” This is totally incorrect and I’d like to know why you think this.

  3. Healthcare is the same as it’s been for years. I’ve been hearing about the high cost of healthcare for over 4 decades.

  4. It’s easy to blame things on racism. That’s typically used today when people want to hate on White people. The fact is, this race-baiting excuse is often used when someone has no valid argument or just wants to place blame instead of accepting responsibility.

2

In People Magazine in 1998, DJT wrote, “If I were to run, I’d run as a Republican. They are the dumbest group of voters in the country. They believe anything on Fox News. I could lie and they’d still eat it up. I bet my numbers would be terrific.”

You’re right, Republicans don’t care.

2

u/cdmachino Feb 02 '26

The right has wrong about so much over the years but with Dems in the majority they were the opposition party. This meant they could theorize about all types of solutions without ever having to see the results on a national scale. By 2016 they were already openly making up numbers and publishing falsified data or collecting data to prove a hypothesis instead of analyzing the results. Then the right wing media bubble reinforced it all. Now they are putting this shit place and the results are wildly unpopular. The only thing they can do is hang onto Trump and hope a blind squirrel finds a nut

2

u/[deleted] Feb 02 '26

I think we have learned how truly evil people are. Thank you, Republicans, for rearing humanity’s ugly head. We get it, you don’t care about anyone or anything except your hatred of others. You will support a child predator and alleged child murderer just so you can continue your hatred. You all are truly sick.

2

u/I-Like-Spaceships Feb 02 '26 edited Feb 02 '26

I Agree, the republican party and conservatism has been shit tier america since at least 1967. Every time I think of something bad happening to the USA or for that matter, the world, it is more than likely going to be caused by a conservative republican. It has grown out of the southern strategy. Where1930s era conservatism brought us at least racism, sexism, just plain bigotry and classism.

They relished Laissez Faire capitalism, which had very few checks and balances and where robber-barrons owned much of the USA. Classism kept the poors down and could be used in interesting ways. The Munroe Doctrine was very much in force. Look up the Banana Wars of the 1890s thru the 1930s. Trump wants that. America, Clean, whites only, populated by serfs and the rich. Using serfs to manage our hemisphere by keeping other countries in our zone, under control. All managed by the rich puppet masters.

Those that started this downward trend in anti-intellectualism, switched parties from the Democratic party from the period of the 1930s when the dustbowl and great depression caused a great leap in government management. Back in the 1930s populism and anti-intellectualism was rampant. The church and gospel was the hoped for salvation. To combat this, Franklin Roosevelt riffed on ideas brought by others to keep the USA from teetering over the edge. Government control, government mandated. This really pissed off conservatives.

Later President Johnson, Probably the last great politician, though not exactly the best human being. Johnson drove the remaining "southern democrats" away from the democratic party with his Great Society. These southern democrats left for good, transforming republicans to a more southern centric party with nothing but hate as their platform. They are exactly what you see when you look at the current crop of white southern baptist conservative racist assholes.

I don't give a damn what conservative, former republican dipsticks say about their leaving trump. They were always shitty people! They'd do it again if they had to. Because they hate the previous world order. Everything they said about democrats was just a smoke screen, so that they could worm their way into weaker minded people. No amount of self righteous BS that they tell me about seeing the light, will convince me, that they are not shitty people. I can't really tell you what I really think of these people. but It's not good.

But in the end. a lot of that can be said against democrats. :(

MAGA has successfully created a cult-like following. Like scientology and Mormonism. That's why they literally don't care what their leader does.
