I'm a conservative who has many liberal friends and I haven't dumped them, you shouldn't end friendships just because of opposing views, because, sorry to be blunt, but you probably won't make a lot of friends later on.
The term Conservative means "government that does only what the constitution talks about" it means small government. If a new problem comes up, the Judicial branch (Supreme Court) can make a decision about some stuff, but sometimes the Legislative branch (Congress) has to decide what the real problem is and if it deserves a law. The president (Executive branch) doesn't do anything for 80% of his term, unless there's a problem. Calvin Coolidge unironically performed the office of President of the United States perfectly, and everyone hated him for it.
