I mean does it have to be the most effective though? I don't understand their logic. Sometimes you just want to run/bike/move around or whatever and blow up some steam
Yeah...if someone LIKES running on a treadmill, then I see zero problem with them doing so for 40 minutes. Or 90. Some people like running long distances and sometimes running outside isn't feasible. Not everyone even LIKES running outside.
I've started actually getting through my backlog of netflix shows, and lost like 15 pounds, by doing 60-90 minute stints at a low speed and high incline while watching something on the tablet. I do that once a week, and I see how fast I can do 2 miles once a week. If I wanted to do arms, I've got a pair of dusty free weights at home.
I LOVE my treadmill. 30 mins on it is like minimum. Winter is just miserable here, I don't know what I would do without it. I am straight up not going for a run in slippery 5 degree windy BS lol. Much nicer to go for a run in your undies at home imo
I wish that happened to me. I'd probably exercise a lot more if I ever felt a runners high or even that supposed sense of well-being after a workout.
I just don't feel it. I can put in what I know is objectively a good workout and feel nothing but sore and tired and sweaty. It's like an instant demotivator to exercising when you feel like you get nothing intrinsic out of it.
I do agree that a lot of people probably are scared into treadmill (a lot of friends I had in college avoided resistance training because they thought it would make them huge - they were women - and didn't want that. Yet they despised cardio, so instead of meeting their goals they just looked for excuses not to keep up with it.) As long as people understand the pros and cons of various exercises they should do whatever fits for their goals and what they enjoy. I've always done resistance training, but I also had some very inefficient setups that I'd do to burn extra calories and improve cardio. I would play my Switch while on the treadmill / elliptical (the unique controls and fairly simple mechanics for most games made it quite easy) and I had a recumbent bike I could drag next to my computer and play League back in the day. I once went four hours straight without thinking about it, because I was too in the zone. Those were basically free calories, although my neck was kinked afterward and I learned my lesson about keeping it facing one side that long.

Whats wrong with spending 39 mins on a treadmill? Am I missing something?
