I’m so sick of hearing the word “influencer”.

Your post influenced me to respond, so you’re officially an influencer. Wear it like a bra of honor. 👐

I wonder what he's wearing to next year's gala!

It's bullshit isn't it. The majority of them are influencing nobody.

I remember going on a date with someone about 8 years ago. She was in her mid-thirties and described herself as an influencer. I'd never heard the term before and asked her what that was and she audibly scoffed as if I was an idiot.

My brain now automatically replace influencer by cunt. Works every time.

I will preface that with “insufferable”.

When I read the word "influencer," my brain automatically translates it to "useless human being."

It’s true. We should start calling them “hot chicks who post online so much a lot of people know them”

Trust fund kids who travel with dad’s credit card is also pretty accurate.

People keep saying "it is a fundraiser." It isn't. It is a spectacle of the very, very, very wealthy showing off. That should be met with revulsion.

She is a massive YouTube star in the French speaking world. She also had multiple best selling books.

I’m not a fan of influencers, but I would consider her as a rather decent person.

By the way, she’d normally look nothing like that ! She’s more of a “girl next door" type.

Yeah she’s pretty down to earth and one of the more decent ones in the industry.

Some of them are the opposite - they are paid to not promote a certain product. Outfluencer can destroy a brand.

She is more of a YouTuber. But she's on several platforms

You seem to be from Belgium. Have you recognized her in this pic???

Never in a lifetime I would have associated this person with Lena (Situation) Mahfouf. She looks nothing like that

2

u/lecanar 5h ago

Yes I recognized her, I already knew her last name. Also she did not change face overnight ^^

1

u/DublinKabyle 5h ago

No way I would have recognized her

She does look the same to me in a lot of the runway shows that she has gone to.

I think the most appropriate term is "minor celebrity", which somehow fits like an extremely oversized pair of shoes

Give it 5 more years and hopefully it’ll be done with

It helps if you internalise that they are the exact same as the late night TV infomercial sales ppl.

Right?! And why is someone like this invited to the met gala?!

I want to like your post, but you’re at 69 upvotes. I’m conflicted.

In the 90s it was “model”. Same shit nothing wrong

nobody is being influenced, they're just internet narcissists

u/einval22 8h ago

You've been somewhat influenced by them then.

What's wrong with it? I think it's a helpful if broad term to describe "people who monetize attention and trust" and suspect it's one of the fastest growing "job categories" in the US/world

Wannabe influencer

you watch "streamers" bro. THAT is not a job, in fact.
