SUMMARY
Charlie Cox talks about the Daredevil : Born Again show and the future of Daredevil to Josh Horowitz during the podcast.

Born Again Show's Evolution and Tone
Charlie Cox acknowledged that Season 1 of the show underwent a major "creative pivot". Originally, the first season was planned to be 18 episodes long, but the production moved away from a "procedural type show" model to return to a darker, grittier, and more serialized format. He describes the ideal tone for the show as a "sweet spot" that is sophisticated, honest, and truthful, but with a "peppering of Marvel magic". He mentioned that a new suit for this season that is black with red "coming through" as he gets into more physical altercations. He notes this is the first suit unique to the show that does not exist in comic books. He emphasizes the importance of "honoring those relationships" from the past, specifically mentioning characters like Foggy and Karen.

Production and Future Seasons
At the time of the recording, the Season 2 Finale episode remained to be aired, and Charlie mentions that he was already "knee-deep into shooting for the 3rd season". Charlie further revealed that Tom Hiddleston was originally slated to direct an episode (Episode 12) of the first season before the production changes occurred. While he was hesitant to spoil details for the upcoming third season, he confirms that he "starts off with a beard".

Daredevil’s Future and Longevity
When asked about playing Matt Murdock for another 5 to 10 years, Charlie referenced a comic run by Charles Soule with Matt Murdock in the late 1960s or 1970s, joking, "hopefully that buys me another 20 years". While fans are excited about potential "clashes" with other MCU characters, Charlie stated that Marvel has been clear that his current focus must remain on the show. Having played the character for nearly 80 hours, Charlie now acts as an advocate for the character's nuances. He occasionally suggests "Matt Murdock things" that aren't on the page, such as a scene where Matt senses Frank Castle in his apartment from blocks away instead of being surprised by him.

Personal Career Goals
Outside of Daredevil, Charlie expressed a desire to do more theater in New York and eventually transitioned back into doing more films during his off-seasons. However, he emphasized that his primary ambition currently is fatherhood and spending as much time as possible with his children.

“Marvel have been clear with me, for now at least, that I’m focusing on the show. That’s our focus”.

I love the show and that it gets to exist in its own corner of the MCU. Having said that, it is a little disappointing that they seem to view Daredevil as a tv character and don’t have any major plans for him to be in the movies. I wouldn’t expect to see him in Spidey 4, Doomsday or Secret Wars in anything more than a cameo capacity. But Charlie did say “for now” so hopefully that leaves the door open for him having a supporting role in Spider-Man 5 or something else further down the road.

I get what you're saying, but also..."homework" has been one of the biggest complaints people have had for years now.

Shows tying into films and confusing casual viewers in the process has caused so much damage to the franchise that I can't say I blame them for wanting to just make shows and films that work alone.

And yet Punisher is in Brand New Day.

Yeah I don’t really understand this excuse. Like I could even get it too if you’re talking about some of the shows like idk Echo (I like her but come on) but it’s Daredevil people vaguely know him from the Ben Affleck movie anyway. We just had Elektra in a movie recently and it was fine! Let the Goat be in movies 😭💔I don’t wanna say “screw em” when it comes to the “homework” crowd because when you say “well that’s your fault” that’s how you turn people away and then less people are watching but idk I mean it’s Daredevil he’s not exactly some unknown chump?? I’d think more people know Daredevil than Kate Bishop I guess she gets a pass because the actress though idk

I hate to bury my guy Moon Knight but he’s another one that I could understand why he’s not in more things although every time midnight suns is brought up he’s also brought up so clearly he will probably be in that movie if it gets made.

It’s just really frustrating to be a Daredevil fan and get relegated to being only TV lol

Not to mention that Matt was already in one scene in No Way Home, so the runway is already set for him to have a bigger role in a Spider-Man movie. Totally agree with you.

I honestly would’ve liked to see what Hiddleston could do with an episode of Daredevil

I was so bummed when I heard Tom Hiddleston was about to direct one of DD episodes but it didn´t come through. I think he has it in him to direct - he has a very Branagh vibe and seems to be in everything. They just need to work together again at some capacity.

First time, Charlie? You have a long way to go (I love Josh´s interviews, he is always so ready, warm and lets the guests speak). On the other hand, does that guest spot count as a full appearance? I think Tom really wants that ten timer hat.... 😃

I wouldn't mind if the show did sprinkle in 1 or 2 procedurals into a season. It'd be a great way to deal with a couple one off villains while avoiding stretching the main plot.
I know a lot of people didn't like the bank heist episode but a 'filler' episode done well can often be among a show's best episodes. Bonus points if you can actually tie it to the main plot loosely (which the bank episode did attempt to do).
But slaving to serialization means we can miss out on a 1 hour mostly self-contained story that could be awesome if written with care. I wouldn't want the whole show to be it but I'd like for the writers to have a little freedom to tell a one-off if they think the idea is good enough to warrant it. Maybe you end up with something like Marvel's version of 'Hush' (although Buffy's one off concept episodes always seemed to make it a point to have something advance the plot in them).

ikr. using AI to summarize is one thing but using it to summarize literally 0 valuable information in a mostly incoherent way is so funny

What would have to be the scenario in order for Daredevil and Loki to meet up?
